Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.
We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.
The food is very good. We really enjoyed every dish we had. However, the room was freezing cold and could not take off our coats during dinner. This was February! We mentioned it to the waitress but I don´t think she took any notice. The service was OK.
The food was good, but I was expecting great. The jerk chicken didn't have much of a kick and the pasta dishes weren't that special.
Amazing meal at Compere Lapin! Our waitress, Alex, was kind, helpful, and attentive. The seasoning on the spiced pig ears was so delicious and paired very nicely with the aioli. Conch croquettes and dirty rice arancini were also great, it's hard to choose a favorite. Highly recommend the marinated shrimp and the curried goat, both of which were phenomenal.
This was one of the best meals I've ever had. We sat at the bar and had such a great time watching the bartenders mix drinks and getting their recommendations. The dirty rice balls and conch fritters are MUST gets - I could have drank the sauces that came with them, they were so good! 100% would go again and you should too!
Absolutely, without question, the best meal we had during our 4 night stay in NOLA. The dishes were perfectly balanced, well paced, and exquisitely executed. Can't wait to visit again.
Excellent food. Their prix fixe menu for $35 is a steal. More food than you can eat: a starter, a small plate and a large plate. Because the starter was so big, we were already full by the time that the large plate came around.
This is such a fantastic restaurant. Brunch was no exception. Great food, terrific service.
Mignon was wonderful! Cocktails were on point!
Always our favorite. Crispy pig ears are our favorite snack on the planet and the special pasta is always a winner. I've ordered the special the last three visits and they've each been unique and amazing.
Friends in from out of town to celebrate Mars is Gras. Food was great and the service.
Pretty much the best restaurants ever
Excellent lunch with stellar service. The cocktails were also top notch.
The restaurant is a delightfully welcoming space. Elegantly, industrially casual. Very good and fresh food. Only negative is the high level of ambient noise. A problem across New Orleans.
My mom was in town for her birthday, and we had a wonderful time. The meal was divine, the service was great, and the atmosphere was congenial. My mom commented on the great artwork as well. We would definitely eat there again!
Definitely get the curried goat! Wonderful service, wonderful food, wonderful ambiance. Had a great time!
After 3 days of eating “ traditional” New Orleans food, we finally made it to Compere Lapin. With 12 people in the group we have many different tastes - CL unified our love for great food with impeccable attention to detail. Thanks so much!
Amazing service and food!
The food was outstanding! Did the brunch $35 for two small plates and one large plate and could not finish the large plate - I was stuffed! Definitely looking forward to returning for dinner. Service was great and the overall aesthetic and presentation is what made great food stand out even more in a city full of wonderful food options. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff presented us with a birthday card signed by the entire staff, so sweet! 10/10 recommend.
Amazing brunch! We’d come back to New Orleans to come here! Loved the coconut rum French toast and the tartare everything bagel. We literally ate every crumb. Great cocktails to wash it all down.
After being seated, our server literally sprinted from another table to say she would be with us “in a bit.” We watched her hustling. Whew! Don’t fault her, as it looked as if she was tasked with one large portion of dining room including a large table. She was friendly but was so rushed it ruined the experience. It isn’t all about the food.
She did get some help, but that person brought us someone else’s dinner. On a positive note, the wine was fantastic. The space is lovely. On another night, this place might get a better review, but I don’t live here, and there are too many other restaurants to try in New Orleans.
The curried goat was phenomenal - highly recommend.
Excellent food and attentive service! Our favorite out of three outstanding restaurants we tried on our visit to New Orleans. Try the goat!
Definitely the best meal I have ever had! Every bite was amazing. Service was outstanding. We were the loud table, but otherwise the place was quiet enough for conversation, but not so quiet that you felt like you were in a library. Go here. Splurge and try everything on the menu. You will not regret it.
Food and service were excellent. I had a friend in twin from L.A. (No, not Louisiana or Lower Alabama!)Los Angeles! He was blown away with the flavors and quality of the food.
we always are, too!
The service was great, very attentive without being in the way. The appetizers were all very good, we wished we had ordered more. We all felt the mains were too heavy - everything was in a heavy sauce and by the end of the emeal, everyone felt weighed down. For instance we ordered the cauliflower with jalapeno and it was just swimming in the sauce and as a side, I don't think it should be so loaded with a sauce. Otherwise, we had a delightful evening.
Food was amazing and ambiance was great. We had a great table for our anniversary. Highly recommend.
Food was good, but didn’t knock my socks off. Service good, experience pleasant.
We loved our entire meal! Amazing food (curried goat is a must, the jerk chicken is pictured and also amazing), and our server Lindee (not sure how to spell it) elevated the whole experience. High recommend!
Amazing start to finish. Great service from Lindy, wonderful wines by the glass.
Obsessed. If I lived in New Orleans I’d be there all the time just for the Cobia and dirty rice arancini.
Oh my god, lover=d this place! Highly recommended by a friend from St. Lucia who also recommended the goat curry with sweet potato gnocchi, which was fabulous. My friend had the snapper/pepper pot which was also delicious. We shared the whipped ricotta first course, which was wonderful, and ditto on the roasted cauliflower/jalapeno side (not really very spicy despite the jalapeños). Dessert - roasted banana zee-pole won out easily over the soursop semifreddo. Service wa every nice, Biscuits came first with 2 different butters and were quite yummy as well. I would go back in a second.
Great lunch during our annual conference. Lovely ambience quiet and responsive staff. Would def go back.
Only sorry we didn’t have more time!
Delicious food and great menu recommendations by staff!
Nice atmosphere, mediocre overpriced food. Service just barely ok.The history and ambience of the premises is what you getting for your money.
I have had several dinners at Compere Lapin, but never tried brunch. My husband and I took two other couples visiting from California yesterday and it was awesome! Our server was outstanding and everyone was totally WOWed by the food. The ambiance is totally different during the day with the natural light coming through the windows. We had a stellar experience and a wonderful meal to send our Cali friends back to the left coast. Nina Compton has two jewels here in NOLA. CP & American Bywater Bistro.
Meal and service were fabulous!
One of the best restaurants not only in New Orleans but in the country. The service was impeccable from the moment you enter. The ambiance instantly feels so french and relaxed. On top of that - the food exceeded all expectations. Each did we had was amazing - some stand outs were the tuna tartare, the jerk chicken and the celery dessert. A must do in NOLA!
Great place for a special occasion or out of town “foodie” guest
Delicious biscuits. The ricotta first course was a bit too sweet for my taste but the shrimp au jus were very good. The main courses were very good although not totally memorable. It was a very slow day in the restaurant and you could feel a lack of energy. It is probably more fun when it is a bit busier.
The service was professional and attentive without being intrusive. The wine by the glass selection had excellent variety at all price points. The menu was traditional and eclectic offering something for every palate. A diner near me ordered takeout to eat on her flight the next day.
Food was outstanding. Pace of the meal was frantic, and it seemed as though other diners were being rushed as well.
