Went because it is close to Kendall Square Cinema.
Celebrating a birthday.
Food was delicious, but expensive.
It met my expectations.
Food was delicious! Very cool menu. I wanted one of everything!! Service was exceptional. The decor is very cool. So nostalgic, things I hadn’t seen in years. Quiet atmosphere which was great because I was meeting up with my best friend from CA who was here on business. I came from CT. It was the perfect place to talk. We also had her 11 month old baby, who loved it!! All in all great experience. Thank You for a lovely dinner!
Business lunch was so enjoyable! Great, easy menu and very fast, prompt, courteous service. Large open space and even though we dined early it seemed to get very loud which made the business component a little challenging.
I like Commonwealth because the food is excellent but the ambiance is more casual. This is a typical Cambridge restaurant, where the menu intends to achieve a high level of creativity, and is very expensive, but at Commonwealth I would say it is worth it. The servers are amazing, and I love that Commonwealth pays a high wage for their employees. Everything that came to our table, including the Chef's Whim of buffalo chicken arancini had so much care and though put into the flavors, that we felt very well taken care of, and will be back!
As always, pleasant, friendly , nice meal.
Great place right in Kendall which delicious seasonal options on an ever-changing menu. Definitely will return!
I got a fee for using your online reservation, which was not noted during the reservation process. I was surprised by the fee on my check and I do not think this fee is appropriate and is too much for such a small task.
I would love to give Commonwealth a true review but unfortunately I did not get to experience it. On a freezing windy January day, I walked there from Kendall, having made a reservation on Open Table, only to discover that it was closed for New Year's Day but hadn't notified the reservation website or their answering machine- they just had a sign on the door. Call ahead if reserving, and make sure to talk to a person to confirm you have the reservation before heading over.
They were listed as open on OpenTable, it let me make a reservation, and then when got there they were closed. Other people were showing up and finding the same. Don't want to give an outright bad review, because I have eaten there before and liked it, but frustrating they didn't disable it in OpenTable if they were not going to actually be open.
The food was creative, seasonal and delicious. The service was great as well. The twice-baked squash was incredible!
Fantastic food and excellent service. Definitely coming back when in Boston.
Date night with the hubby. Did not have high expectations but we were very pleasantly surprised! Would totally go back. Trying to plan our office's xmas party there.
Great, fresh, delicious, well prepared meals served attractively. Wait staff was informative, helpful and appropriately friendly. It was a very good dining experience. We will certainly return.
If there's such a thing as honest food, the term can be used for this restaurant. The ingredients were very fresh and creatively prepared to capture the true nature of the ingredients. Since this was our first visit to Commonwealth, we made a point of trying several dishes. The steak was prepared as requested, rare, the pasta was al dente, and the lamb meatballs were complemented with a light sauce. The service was excellent as well, with several of the staff bringing dishes over & everyone was pleasant. The atmosphere was lively and casual. We look forward to going back. We walked with gps guidance & it took us in a circle. The restaurant is located just over the Longfellow Bridge on the Cambridge side. Broad Canal is behind the Red Cross building.
Fun relaxed spot for lunch. On a Friday in summer there are busy tables outside and plenty of cooler indoor tables if that's what you are looking for. We had a group of five and food was delivered in a timely fashion and was tasty. Our waiter didn't mention dessert, so we asked about cookies from the bakery. He checked on available varieties, then offered to have our choices cut up so we could share. Leave room for the cookies, they're yummy!
One of the best restaurant meals I've had in a while. We did the prix fixe -- fabulous mussels, the most amazing gnocchi in a tomato sauce, and a chocolate/caramel dessert. Really yummy. Service was prompt, helpful. The place was a little loud, but in a good way.
Have been for lunch a number of times and this place NEVER disappoints! Great menu selection for health nuts or not-so-health nuts.
Great spot to people watch at Kendall Square too!
Nice place with good food in a laid back area and friendly staff
The only downside was the long pause between first and main course.
Overall great meal. Food was very well done, fresh, creative. Predinner bread was best ever. Charcuterie was a very good portion size, and guacamole with seedy crackers very tasty. Entres awesome as well, only would have had a few more pieces of pasta with mine. Overall, best meal ( and most consistently good) in a while and certainly best value. Staff very nice, venue enjoayble. Only downside was accoustics ... there were a bunch of small kids and it got loud, but on other hand we'd feel very comfortable bringing our squirts here.
Great place to dine!
Menu is very creative, food exploding with flavors, great service, nice atmosphere. Overall:fantastic!
Great family birthday dinner!service & food were equally commendable!
We had lunch at Commonwealth and thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered (mole chicken sandwich, eggplant parm, burger, Equinox farm greens), though the French fries were a little disappointing. It's a fun, modern space with a market and also outdoor seating by the canal. Will definitely be back to try their dinner menu!
Food was delicious and service was outstanding!
Didn't think the entrees had much flavor, and they weren't served with much of anything - just a piece a fish with a tiny amount of spinach or a huge pork chop with a little potato cake. Neither had much flavor. There are sides available, but for the price of the entrees, I felt there should have been more balance on the plate.
I was worried when I walked up to the front door and the decor seemed a bit casual but when we were seated we felt very comfortable. The restaurant wasn't very crowded but as the evening went on tables filled up. They have a nice bar with lots of selection and are able to make specialty cocktails. Our server was very knowledgeable about where the food came from and had great recommendations. She told us that they butcher their own meat that they purchase from a local farmer. Seems like they purchase much of their food locally and support local farmers which is important to us. We will be going there again.
Delicious! Easy to order plenty of vegetables and a bit of meat to make it a nutritious meal as well. Grilled broccolini was nice and sweet, Thai-style fiddleheads were scrumptious, asparagus was tender, and oxtail fritters were the perfect amount with just enough spice in the jalapeño aioli. Wine list was approachable and carefully selected for everyday dining. I look forward to returning!
Fastest lunch I have ever had, which was great! Food was awesome too!
Great restaurant- food is always fresh and creative- have Ben there numerous times and also for functions. They really meet and exceed your expectations. If you haven't tried Commoneeslth do yourself a favor and go soon. Especially now with patio weather here.
Excellent, attentive service. We arrived earlier than our reservation and before our guests, but were seated right away and enjoyed a drink and appetizer. The food and cocktails were terrific and our server was absolutely great .
Creative menu with very small bites, small bites, large bites and basic yet outstanding desserts. The trout, a mainstay on the menu, was expertly prepared, and the side of veggies we ordered (asparagus) was creatively prepared. Save room for dessert, because the ice cream is first rate and the toppings are a must have. A simply eloquent experience, Commonwealth is. They have their playbook down and they execute very well on it. The service was just right, knowledgeable and attentive but not smothering, and the ambience gives off a warm vibe.
Have been here several times and have not been disappointed, as the meals are made with fresh ingredients, often with a unique spin.
The Monday night Fried Chicken specials are tasty and affordable.
The weekend brunch has some great choices.
This was my first time at Commonwealth. The menu is limited but there is something for every taste. I had the white bean soup and it was delicious... tomato based, lots of veggies, hearty. My friend had the spinach salad... lots of fresh spinach, topped with apple slices and granola... it comes with cheese but she had the vegan version. The sandwiches looked tasty too. Hip and trendy comfort food.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, WE'LL BE BACK, THANK YOU
Not too many vegan options, but my carnivore husband wasn't a huge fan either
The cocktails were fun, chicken pot pie filling, and wow, the roasted octopus with white beans starter rocked!
Lovely!!! Great option if going to Kendall Square Cinema afterwards.
We had a fantastic time! Amazing food and service!
