Although Commonwealth is still good, I prefered it before. The menu isn't that different, but the dishes are "busier" with lots of sauces, grains, and vegetables, whereas before, they were excellently prepared and simple dishes. And the menu is much less vegetarian-friendly than in the past, although there was a special and the server indicated that the kitchen could adapt one of the regular menu dishes, but why not be more welcoming and have a vegetarian entree on the menu? Also, the tables and chairs were falling apart and the bathroom needed cleaning, which doesn't leave a great impression.
Good food, good service, good selection of craft brews and relaxing atmosphere
Commonwealth has done it again; completely surpassed our expectations. As always the food was mouth watering and we found it difficult not to lick our plates clean. Tonight they switched over to their Spring menu and impress it did. The smoked ribs with strawberries was beyond delicious. The lamb was succulent and perfectly prepared. Overall, ambience, food, and especially the service, was top notch. This is why Commonwealth is, hands down, the best all-around restaurant in Cambridge and around Boston.
Food lacks taste, and quality not up to par with their prices. The best thing Commonwealth appears to do is refill your water glass continuously. Otherwise, not worth it!
Really great food. Excellent store to boot!
Always great experience, food pushes the limits. Love Commonwealth
Delicious food and drinks, our waiter was wonderful.
Food was excellent with good choices for a variety of diets. Service was great and attentive without being intrusive. Server was knowledgeable and offered very good suggestions.
After several visits I prefer for drinks and small plates.
This is one of those must-do restaurants in Boston/Cambridge (actually in Cambridge but a lovely walk just across the bridge, with terrific views of the City, from Beacon Hill). The family-style service, with shared side dishes, is one of its special attributes, along with the eclectic decor of whimsical bits and pieces of nostalgia throughout the space. However, the biggest draw is the food, as it should be: during my most recent visit, two of us had the crispy lamb shoulder, which was to die for. I've never had such delicious lamb.
Spinach and apple salad with roasted chicken was 🙌🏼
First time to this restaurant - all the flavors of the food were excellent. Fried chicken was spicy and juicy, the breads in particular were all top-notch. Excellent combinations of flavors and good-sized portions. Very delicious and wouldn't hesitate to return.
We had heard that the fried chicken is one of the best in the Boston area, and while we don’t have a comparator nearby, it was the best fried chicken I’ve had! Not only that, the vegetarian appetizer and salad were also outstanding. As were the drinks! Definitely coming back for more!
Food was fresh, season ingredients and tasty. Service person was attentive and professional.
We were seated by a door and the seating area so the area was a bit cold. Otherwise great.
if you are into finding a different salad or sandwich for lunch near Kendall Square, then Commonwealth should be on your list. Located on the 3rd street 'food court' (along with Za and Evo), it's also a great place for post work beers and snacks
Always a great visit- creative food, great recipes and lively atmosphere. We'll be back!
Great service and good entrees to choose from.
Opentable reservation made but the restaurant did not have it in their system. So we had to sit at the bar
Very poor food quality food served quickly not freshly made . Lamb was horrible braised lamb fried with tons of over spiced hummus and Harrisa. It was served lukewarm . Broccolini not cooked
The menu has a diverse selection of sandwich and salad options and the service was excellent.
Dessert and the Duckfat fries were good. The a/c was a bit lacking.
The service was terrible, took over an hour for the food. And didn’t even eat my meals, mussels were very fishy.
The waitress was very slow, not paying attention to our table
When we arrived on time for our reservation, they did not seat us.They explained they were not seating any more tables as they were getting ready for a private event.
They directed us to the counter to order a take out lunch and find a place to sit outside.
This is all fine and understandable except that they shouldn't have accepted our reservation. We were in town visiting our daughter and wanted a nice, sit down lunch.
They also wouldn't allow us back in after ordering to use the restroom. Overall, bad experience.
Two members in our party had dietary restrictions—lactose and gluten intolerances. They were extremely accommodating with all of this and Lauren was an exceptional server. We had the best time and Nicco is the best chef. We’ll be back on this same day every year to celebrate our anniversary!
Limited menu with no fish options. wine is very overpriced. The food we ordered was good and different.
Located in the heart of Kendall Square's innovation district, this restaurant/market combo lives up to the creative and exacting spirit of the square. Rustic and casual with inside and outside seating, the welcome and prompt service set the stage for great food. From the kitchen came fantastic appetizers which were followed by chicken (rated by many as the best ever) and lamb. In all dishes, the deep understanding of unique spicing and meticulous preparation was evident. It is a rare event in dining when each dish inspires deep breaths of appreciation and a pause to reflect on the wonder of its creation. We'll be back for more.
We love Commonwealth, and our most recent visit did not disappoint. The food is always great, the drinks unique, and the service wonderful. It was our 1yr anniversary and the kitchen was kind enough to send us extra sides, which was a special treat. I have never been disappointment with me meal/service here.
Great food. Nice and helpful wait staff. Went for brunch.
The server was friendly and helpful. I had the vegetarian burger that was good mostly due to the bbq ketchup.
I had business lunch with one other person at Commonwealth. It was not crowded on a Wednesday at 1 PM. We were seated promptly. The server was slow to arrive, poured water, and then was slow to return. We both ordered 'big' salads that had egg but no meat, but, we were invited to add meat. I selected turkey. The salads came reasonably fast and the turkey turned out to be low-quality lunch meat representative of a grocery chain brand. The server never returned after the salads were delivered. When we were done we ordered coffees. The server did not bring enough cream and substitute sugar even though we ordered both. The server did not return after delivering the coffees. We had to motion to the server to obtain the check. Average food and below average service. There are many alternatives to Commonwealth--try them.
Excellent food. I personally have an aversion for aioli but excellent quality and every thing was beautifully presented.
Lovely setting and great decor.
Comfortable casual yet upscale and post work appropriate.
Liked this place -- would certainly go again, and I'm sure I will.
Watch out for hidden fees! The food, atmosphere, and service at this restaurant are very good, and it's a nice place to eat out. HOWEVER, as we checked out there was an "independent restaurant fee" on our bill of 5%. After inquiring about it, we were told that instead of raising prices, they added this fee onto the bill; if the restaurant "did well" they might pass the $$ to the back of the house (dishwashers etc) - leaving it a bit unclear whether the money was pocketed by the owners or not. While I am all in favor of providing a living wage to people who are underpaid, I am NOT in favor of sneaking in an extra charge AFTER we have made choices on a menu based on listed prices. I find this practice a form of deception because most customers are unaware of it until it arrives on their bill. Just raise your prices, and then pay your workers more money.
One of the greatest experiences I've ever had. Great food great ambiance and an overall good time. The fried chicken is out of this world and my family loved the mac n cheese. A must try (more than once).
Good food and great service!
Great food, nice atmosphere!
Great waitstaff and flavorful food. Nice location to have drinks at the bar or in a larger group.
First time at this restaurant. We were celebrating our son’s birthday. Everything was superb except for the frigid temperature where we were seated.
