Everything was great except we had a 10:45 a.m. reservation and had to wait a half hour to get seated. They kept holding two 2-person tables to push together to make a 4-top, but after a half hour of waiting to be seated, there was no one sitting at the 4-top and they still wouldn't make those tables available for two people each. Whose reservation is more important? People who are there or people who aren't? A busy Saturday morning for sure, but the reservations weren't managed well.
Our server Delaney was lovely! The maple brined fried chicken was outrageously good!!!
Our waitress was so helpful. She was patient with us and didn’t recommend anything just because it was mor expensive and I really appreciated that. My husband’s friend chicken was amazing. My vegan burger was a vegan book, ok but my choice should have been different.
The food was good but I would recommend it for lunch rather than dinner.
My server was outstanding (Steven?) - The maître d’/ greeter ( slim young caucasian gentleman) left a lot to be desired in is attitude- Steven saved the day! Everything else was outstanding!
One of the best brunch spots in DC! Never disappoints.
Great options, delicious food, good service, friendly staff. Yummy bloody mary, made in-house.
Always fun to go to Commissary.
Good food but rude staff. We had a reservation at 6 and enjoyed a nice dinner with friends. The bill was brought out to us at about 7:20 and we put down our credit cards. Our waitress came back with our receipts and after we signed them and tipped (20%) she returned shortly telling us that we needed to leave soon because there was a reservation coming in. She apologized and told us that we could hang out and talk a bit more but her manager wanted her to let us know.
Not long after the manager, a crusty little guy, comes over and puts both of his hands on the table, leans in and asks us to leave. It was ridiculous. If they're trying to lose customers, they're doing an awesome job.
Amazing as always
Great food. Don’t miss this place.
Great menu selections and great atmosphere for a kid-friendly restaurant! Service and food were excellent !
Had dinner with a cousin while in DC for a conference. Saw the reviews for Commissary on Trip Advisor and decided to try it. Great service, casual atmosphere. Had the cocktail special which came with a butternut squash tart- delicious! Chose the sides with a salad for dinner- wish I had known that “root vegetables “ were mostly potatoes. Other than that- super.
This is my favorite restaurant in DC. Never disappoints.
Everything here was spectacular! From the food, to the prices, to the ambience and the service (our waitress Natalie was great!). We had the breakfast for 2 deal which was $55 & included coffee, a bottle of champagne + 2 juices, & an entree each. I had the breakfast tacos & my girlfriend ordered the huevos rancheros... SO GOOD! You pretty much make your own mimosas, which we didn't mind at all given that we prefer more champagne over juice in our mimosas anyway. Overall great experience, & I can definitely say I'd be a regular here if I wasn't from out of town.
This place was awesome for the family. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. The kung pao sprouts were to die for. They were very accommodating of one of our party who is gluten free. Their soup special was a chicken stew which was perfect for a cold night. Kids meals were great. Would highly recommend.
I was intrigued because The Commissary got a high average review for breakfast and it was pretty close to where we were at the time . We were a group of seven on a Friday for brunch. We were able to get a table which was great. It was not that busy at that time 11am-12pm.
Staff were was great. Service was very good. Food was pretty good but not necessarily best for breakfast. The fall frittata could have used more seasoning and the veggies were a bit under cooked in it. Same for the potato latkes, a bit undercooked.
Gluten free blueberry pancakes were pretty darn good I have to say.
Chorizo breakfast tacos were pretty good also.
Great brunch spot! Healthy and comfort foods avsilable. Cozy with great service!
Love the ambiance! Our waiter Zack (?) was attentive and super sweet, made great recommendations and was an all around great server! Food delish, we’ll def be back! 👍🏼👍🏼
Great food but slow service
Service was fantastic! Food was really great! The samir cocktail was also very yummy!
Great brunch spot. Love the overall food and atmosphere. Current management is spot on. Bloody Mary's are on point! This is officially on my top "go to" spots for weekend meet ups with the besties. Can't wait for the Brittany Brunch in December!!!
Great option when absolutely nothing else is available.
Very crowded and very noisy. We have come here several times before going to studio theater. We had a 6:15 reservation and our order was taken about 20 minutes after we sat down. We ordered an appetizer and mail course and the waitperson said that the app would be out on a te minutes. 20-30 minutes later we had received neither app nor main and we spoke with a manager. We again were told that everything would be out shortly and they would bring it all together. I said that we were told that our app would be served first; about 20 minute earlier, but since it was getting late, to bring everything together. We had lemon honey chicken—too sweet, and the pork chop entree, which was vercooked and not very juicy, as requested. The Brussels sprouts app was also cloyingly sweet. To their credit,!we were not charged for the late-delivered sprouts. Not a great dinner. That said, the waitperson was don’t the best that she could. As I told her, she wasn’t dong the cooking.
Great food and experience as always. Be mindful that service can be a bit slow on weekends as they are often quite busy. Brunch/breakfast are their strong suits. Advisable to take taxi/Uber/Lyft as parking can provide difficult.
We spur of the moment chose Commissary and were not disappointed. For starters we had hummus and it was good... Our entrees though were amazing! Both sandwiches were gone & the sides -salad and fries- disappeared quickly too. We were in a cozy romantic corner and were still able to view the warm and inviting restaurant. Definitely a hip place and I felt slightly under dressed (it was a Saturday) but that’s what you get when traveling! Ten out of ten would recommend. My only tiff was that for being a higher price point place the service felt Applebee’s-ish.
I was very disappointed with their Sunday brunch. While our server was very friendly, our group of 6 had to track him down several times to order. Their drinks were very watered down and the food was mediocre at best- honestly you could find better food at IHOP. I'm not sure if this was a fluke, but again, we were highly disappointed based on other ratings.
The Commissary was really great! We had a great meal! The ambiance is very chill and cool. Very comfortable with a good menu and wine selection. Our waitress was so sweet and knowledgeable. At her recommendation we ordered the Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts. They were amazing! I would definitely go back. It was a really good time.
We ate at Commissary twice on our visit to DC. They had a varied menu and a friendly atmosphere. Food was well prepared and tasty. They only got three stars on service because our first table service was excellent but our second time our waitress was non-existent.
Great food and service! Would definitely recommend!
Slow service on every item. Mixed up billing. Restaurant was only one third full. Took 90 minutes for dinner for 5
The risotto was delicious and so was the Mac and cheese 😊
Cannot fault the food and the gentleman who seated us and came over was most helpful alas the waitress could have been better. Also mains came while still eating starters!!!!
Is this an American habit? Although it’s never happened before and we visit USA every year.
We sat at the bar and the service was great! Our burgers and sweet potato fries were fantastic. We just moved to the neighborhood and will definitely be back!
Best place for breakfast. Omelettes are excellent and service was spot on.
Very noisy. Food was ok/ average but the service was very slow - one appetiser arrived seconds before the entree and the other -soup!- had to be cancelled as it had not appeared before the entree was served. The waiting staff did apologise though and gave us a trio of dessert tasters on the house.
We had a nice family dinner here during a recent trip to DC. The mixed drinks were tasty. We all enjoyed our dinner, but we especially liked my husbands dinner, the steak frites, we especially love chimicurri sauce, so it was the dish we all enjoyed tasting. We shared the dessert called sugar rush. It was a sampling of a brownie ala mode, cheesecake and peanut butter pie. It was delicious!
I loved that I was able to make a large reservation for 15 people on the app
The drinks weren’t that great, they tasted funny to me I brought two drinks and didn’t finish either of them
Great menu and fantastic service. Coffee was burnt and stale. For a place this good the coffee should be equivalent to the high quality of food.
Was at Commissary on Saturday night with my husband and 2 children, under the age of 15. We were visiting Washington for 2 nights and decided to try Commissary. The food was fantastic! The ambience was amazing! And our server BLAKE was simply the best! Can't wait to go back the next time we are in town!
Nice food and service, but too noisy for families.
