Neighborhood restaurant is a comfy gathering spot.
Service was very slow. Restaurant was not busy and we ordered our meals including an appitizer but after 35 minutes nothing arrived. We asked for the manager but he never showed up either. We walked across the street to Whole Foods and ate the.
Been there many times for a pre theater dinner with friends. This was the most disappointing visit. The waitress made several mistakes with our order. But most importantly the noise level was unbearable.
Waitress was excellent. It is a noisy place. Great brunch menu. Table was ready on time
Great time visiting with friends from Germany!
We didn’t get free dessert for our special occasion, I saw my ex, and the bottles of wine were very helpful. 5 Stars.
Good food. The starters are better.
I love Commissary and frequently eat here. My sister in law was in town so, of course, I thought of bringing her to one of my favorite spots in DC. We were seated quickly in a great area. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience with our waitress. She came over to our table and brought menus without saying a word, and then she stood there and stared at us. She didn’t ask us if we wanted something to drink or how we were. She finally asked if we had been to Commissary before and I told her I had but my sister in law hadn’t. She did not respond and continued to stare at us. All interactions were extremely awkward like this. Anytime she would come to our table she would just stare not asking if we wanted to order or if our food was okay. I had to initiate every conversation because she would come to our table and just stand there. As a former bartender, I knew she was coming over to get our drink order, food order, and to check on food, but she wouldn’t actually start the conversation. She would just look at us for 30 seconds, and then I would initiate the conversation. When we had questions about the menu, she did not know any of the answers and again would just look at us. I’m not sure if she was new or trained improperly but I would highly suggest she be retrained or switched to a hostess. All other times I have been here, the waiters/waitresses have been amazing and the food is great.
As seniors we were overwhelmed with the level of noise created by the 20 something crowd which was having what appears to be the best time. I would certainly recommend this place to my granddaughter.
Love this place, the service is great even when it's busy. And the food is so good.
Food was very good, reasonably priced and service was very good.
I wish I'd been able to try it, but after searching for parking for an hour I gave up and went home. Be advised that nearly all the surrounding parking lots/garages close on the weekend, so if the one next door fills up, it's a big issue.
Have been many times and look forward to going back.
We were in town for a volleyball tournament. The staff was awesome! Very accommodating to our large group. Highly recommended!
Great food...great service. Great experience!
Average food. Cool place.
I had chicken sandwich. It was a small chicken breast, piece of lettuce, one thick slice of tomatoes, and a bun. $12.
Friendly employees and great food!
Lighting a bit bit bright but otherwise great!
Our server was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. We really did not enjoy the food, though.
Great neighborhood spot! Commissary never disappoints! They have a bunch of options depending on your mood, dietary restrictions. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating.
Wonderful service, fantastic food. Good sized portions, wholesome, very tasty. We were visiting DC and Commissary was recommended to us. So glad we came. Went back again. Loved it
The wait staff went above and beyond! We were a large crowd for a birthday party and they recommended easily shared apps and pitchers. They were attentive, the food was great, and we had a wonderful time. THANK YOU!
Went for the Beyonce themed brunch and had a great time! They gave me the wrong meal at first but were then very apologetic and gave me my correct meal quickly. In addition to that we got a free drink on the house which we didn't ask for they just gave to us which was nice.
Overall great staff and the themed brunches are an amazing idea especially for a fun girl's brunch!
Beyoncé brunch. Commissary is the best.
The food was not amazing but was reasonably priced for a DC eatery. The Beyoncé themed brunch was a fun idea and ensured many customers will be back for the next event. Did not like that we were asked to leave our table to make room for more customers and nobody sat down after us. Tacky move by the management.
While in DC our hotel recommended this place. Great food especially the pancakes.
They also have a bar and special coffee available. We ate breakfast at this place 2 times.
Went for breakfast, everything was fine but nothing was particularly notable.
Been here several times before and I've always been pleased. Consistently have great service and food. We sat for hours and were always attended to with either more coffee or water.
We were in and out in under 45 minutes for breakfast. The food was good and quick. Our waitress was kind and attentive.
A pleasant surprise find! Menu attracted us with something for everyone including a vegan. But service and ambiance was superb!
The Restaurant is supplied by a private farm in Southern Maryland. The Kung Pao sprouts were outstanding as was the Red Curry Chicken Stir Fry (if you enjoy spicy). Servers were very attentive and friendly. The entire dining experience was great and we will visit again.
We were a family party of 8, all having just arrived, to celebrate my daughters wedding for that weekend. We needed something close to our hotel. This restaurant was a great choice! The food and the service were wonderful. I had made the reservation 3 weeks ahead of time online. We were very pleased!
Great brunch spot, cool, unique bar menu, great value and large plates of good food
Great brunch with vegan and vegetarian options, everyone in our group was happy!
Amazing restaurant! One of my new favorites in DC. Highly recommend the Kung pow brussels sprouts
Last week we had a large party of 12 people for a birthday get together. The manager Heidi was extremely accommodating and personable, we were able to have a fun night filled with wonderful food and delicious drinks. The staff went above and beyond with their service. I would recommend Commissary to anyone looking for a genuine restaurant with a happy hour menu that is unbeatable, we cannot wait to go again!
This was our second visit to Commissary. We really enjoyed the food the first time. Our meal started off great. The lentil soup was yummy, the kung pao brussel sprouts were delicious. My husband and I split the beet gyros. Unfortunately they came without any sauce. Just cold beets and arugula in a pita. They said they would bring out the sauce, but that never happened. When we asked about it they said making the sauce was a low priority since most people have gyros for lunch not dinner. We asked for any readily available sauce and selected a lemon vinaigrette. It too never arrived. The waitress brought us a free dessert which was great, but if the restaurant couldn't prepare the dish correctly, they should have told us in advance and we would have selected something else.
Food quality mixed, very good to average. Brussels sprouts, fries and salmon very good, but veggie burger and pizza poor. Most impt breaded chicken bone found in fries served to our vegetarians and waiter didn't seem concerned at all. No accommodation offered.
A must do for breakfast...mimosas, loved the pear and bloody Mary's are excellent.
