Commissary DC Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Commissary for many years now. Sadly, the quality of food has not been the greatest lately. This past Sunday I ordered an egg and cheese muffin sandwich. The muffin was hard, and outside of egg beyond overcooked. My friend had the gluten-free vegan pancakes. They were overcooked as well to the point where we joked these could be used as saucers. This spot is a nice location while offering options for those with restrictive diets, and affordable prices. Hopefully this experience was a one-time thing :).
Brunch was pretty good! I enjoy coming here because it's easy and not too expensive. It's a comfy place to sit and hang out for a while. I got lox and bagel and it was the saddest bit of lox I've ever eaten. Barely had enough for an open faced bagel. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs and they were overcooked and dry. I still ate it all and enjoyed it.
This was my first time in DC. We chose the Commissary on our first night. They had many vegan and vegetarian options. Sit near the middle on the wall, you have a great view and the energy was better. The kale, mashed potatoes and fried chicken were delish. I also so many folks ordering steak so I imagine it must be good there. The guacamole and salsa are divine.
Have been there several times, have enjoyed in the past. Good seems to have become less than average, at least my plate. Scrambled eggs not scrambled, more like a small omelet folded over a few times and cool. Chicken sausage hard and cool. Coffee also cool and almost cold. Seems as if everything sat for some time before brought out. Service okay and not stellar. As I said, have been several times. Breakfast for two was $54...I expect better and won’t return.
Slow service - staff busy chatting to each other rather than service customers.
Long delay from order to drinks arriving (other tables ordered same drinks after us and received them earlier). No chance to order further drInks later in meal as server did not return.
Meat ordered med-rare, delivered well done, but due to long delay in receiving food did not send back. Appeared they forgot to put order for mains through as had to rask about them and still took further 20mins.
Bey loud and service was poor. They brought me the wrong dish. I asked if that was the salad i ordered and they said yes. 20 minutes later they told me it was the wrong one. I am allergic to Gluten and it was just by chance I didn’t end up eating gluten. Careless in the kitchen and poor service. I will not go back.
My friend and I were visiting DC, we tried 2 times and there was waiting time. Finally we made a reservation and we both ordered the breakfast platter and it was super yummy. When you are on those days that you feel having salty and sweet things at the same time, this is the perfect combo.
Food was just ok. Drinks were bland and items advertised as truffle had no truffle flavor. Real issue was the temperature in the restaurant. Maybe when you call to confirm reservations, you should tell guests that the AC isn’t working right. Would have been ok if they came by and apologized, bought us a round of drinks or ??? I asked our server is there was an issue and she said yes, sorry. Manager should have walked around and apologized. Couldn’t eat fast enough and get out of there.
Food was good and so was the service. Huge portions so if you take children, have them split an entree. Wish the server would have let us know this. The homemade jams are wonderful! Try something with the jams! The salmon on the potato pancake was super!
Server was very pleasant and attentive. The food was sort of blah. Eggs and pancakes stayed like they were just cooked with cooking spray. Not the rich buttery taste I would have expected. Mimosas were good and enjoyed the fresh juices that came with it. Also like that they just brought the bottle so you can control your own ratios. Overall cool spot, I'd say just stick with the lunch menu here as breakfast food was incredibly underwhelming for me.
We really enjoyed our Bachelorette dinner at Commissary! We really enjoyed all the apps we had, particularly the Special Kung Pao brussel sprouts! The other dishes we had, the veggie burger, flatbreads, oysters, and spinach gnocchi! This will not be my last visit to this great restaurant!
