Commissary DC Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit to Commissary. We really enjoyed the food the first time. Our meal started off great. The lentil soup was yummy, the kung pao brussel sprouts were delicious. My husband and I split the beet gyros. Unfortunately they came without any sauce. Just cold beets and arugula in a pita. They said they would bring out the sauce, but that never happened. When we asked about it they said making the sauce was a low priority since most people have gyros for lunch not dinner. We asked for any readily available sauce and selected a lemon vinaigrette. It too never arrived. The waitress brought us a free dessert which was great, but if the restaurant couldn't prepare the dish correctly, they should have told us in advance and we would have selected something else.
Food quality mixed, very good to average. Brussels sprouts, fries and salmon very good, but veggie burger and pizza poor. Most impt breaded chicken bone found in fries served to our vegetarians and waiter didn't seem concerned at all. No accommodation offered.
Good menu options, especially good for vegans and vegetarians. Food and drinks were pricey, and just ok. The burger we ordered as medium, came out well done. Our server seemed very annoyed to be serving us from the start; however, the server helping the table next to us seemed super nice and welcoming. Seems like we just got a bad one. We might give this place a try again, but not at the top of our list.
Great restaurant. My family headed to DC for my 40th birthday. My wife and kids had never been there. I found this place to be highly recommended on numerous sites, so we gave it a try. First the services was outstanding, very friendly. The waitress even let my 8 year old try the chili before ordering (it was great chili). The portion sizes were huge. The cheese pizza my 4 year old had was big enough for an adult. Loved the atmosphere. We will be heading back on our next trip to DC.
My husband and I ate here on NYE, and the food was amazing. The brussel sprouts and lettuce wraps were out of this world. Then we had the short ribs and the sweet potato gnocchi...both were perfect...the flavors in each dish worked so well together. Finally (not that we had any room left), we had the pear and cranberry empanadas with vanilla ice cream, and believe me, it was worth squeezing in. All around one of the most enjoyable meals we have ever had...the service and food were outstanding.
Hostess, as well as drinks and food were amazing. The server was kinda of iffy at the beginning. He was training another server which surprised us because his attitude was not the best. After we joked with him, he came around a bit. All in all, great food, good place to meet friends and enjoy great food together.
While the food was decent and the waitress was very attentive, I would certainly say the food was overpriced for the average quality. I felt like it was food I could probably get just about anywhere but at least $10 more expensive per person. Perhaps it would be worth it if the atmosphere felt less generic. Overall, nothing special. I would say that there were a good amount of gluten free options. If you're trying to find a place with those options that your other friends might still eat at, then go for it. Otherwise, I would just go to any other chain restaurant and save your money for a better meal.
Loved the commissary. A little above average service. Great atmosphere, very relaxed but clean and fun decor. Food was phenomenal; so fresh, not overly seasoned or fancy, just great quality. Seasonal drink menu was fun and really yum. Also had a really good beer menu.
We were very impressed with the food and ambiance. The food came quickly but unfortunately so did the check, much quicker than we were ready for. It was obvious we were being pushed out which took some of the enjoyment out of our night. We weren’t asked if we wanted another drink and both my wife and I were pretty low. We are struggling with whether or not to return based on out experience.
Went to the Britney Spears inspired brunch. The decor was OK, but the employee costumes were worth the visit. For a place that is so well known for their brunch, I expected to be impressed by their food. I was not. The food was mediocre at best, and the specialty beignets we ordered had a large piece of place in it. Being in the industry myself, I didn't make a big deal of it, but after showing the server, a manager didn't even stop by to check in. All in all it was a pretty bad experience. I hope that this was an isolated situation.
I always loved going to Commissary but had been able to get there for almost two years. It was like going home, so comfortable and welcoming. Staff is very friendly. Server Delaney especially cheerful. We just missed the 4pm deadline for getting all day breakfast but had a delicious burger with fries and the chicken walnut cranberry salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. Really good. Most important is that one never feels rushed there which means it's a great place to visit with friends and catch up on everything.
I have been going to Commissary for many years now. Sadly, the quality of food has not been the greatest lately. This past Sunday I ordered an egg and cheese muffin sandwich. The muffin was hard, and outside of egg beyond overcooked. My friend had the gluten-free vegan pancakes. They were overcooked as well to the point where we joked these could be used as saucers. This spot is a nice location while offering options for those with restrictive diets, and affordable prices. Hopefully this experience was a one-time thing :).
Brunch was pretty good! I enjoy coming here because it's easy and not too expensive. It's a comfy place to sit and hang out for a while. I got lox and bagel and it was the saddest bit of lox I've ever eaten. Barely had enough for an open faced bagel. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs and they were overcooked and dry. I still ate it all and enjoyed it.
