Went there for a date night with my wife. She got fish and chips and I got fish tacos. The food was high quality. Her cocktail was good and they had a small, but nice selection of beer. It was about $2-3 too expensive per meal, but the "meal deal" they had would have been fair if we were hungry enough for 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert.
We had a terrific breakfast and breakfast cocktails at Commissary. Definitely plan to return. The breakfast menu will not disappoint! I have the Bagel BELT and it was YUM! Our waiter, Sam, did an awesome job. We were his first solo tAble. We would have never guessed. He was trained so well. Give Commissary a try. You will not be disappointed.
After requesting seating with a view of TVs over a week in advance for a sports game, upon arrival I reminded the host of this to which he answered “but you need to understand everyone wants that same thing” as he tried seating us in a back corner. There was a table right in front of the TVs but he told us it was already reserved for another party. We told him we could go eat elsewhere and after “seeing what he could do” finally sat us down at the right table which was surely already reserved for me. Very unpleasant experience and poor customer service with that host.
Excellent food and service.
Coffee mug had lipstick on it
This was more of a sloppy breakfast. I had the avocado grain bowl and the avocado was actually old- brown and oxidized so the taste was not great at all. The grapefruit was good and my husband had the regular breakfast which was just that- regular. It seemed that they waitress did not have a station so she was all over the restaurant which is not efficient at all and we waited for a while to get the check. Actually, my husband has to track her down on the other side of the restaurant. Not our favorite- the unconventional diner is way better.
Best matcha ever!
Food was awesome and service was great! Will definitely be back when I’m around the city!
Food is great! Service, nice but very slow.
The host was beyond rude. He barely acknowledged us, dropped our menus on the table and left. He later brought our meals to us and asked “Avocado Benedict?” My friend responded “the pancakes are here” and pointed to me. He ignored her and just repeated “avocado Benedict?” When we pointed out a meal was missing he turned to my other friend and said “oh, did you order something?” Later as we left we walked past him at the host stand and he didn’t even look up from his phone.
The food was good, our waiter was very friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was fun, but based on the surly, rude, miserable, and unprofessional host, I won’t be back. He clearly needs a refresher on his role in the hospitality industry.
Wonderful meal and service. The summer vegan risotto was insanely delicious. I can’t wait to return!
Mediocre food and service. Portions were large but my veggie burger lacked flavor.
Nice evening but a few issues - appetizers (3 of) arrived before our first round of drinks, asked for a new glass for water (one on table had lipstick) and never received, one appetizer salad arrived after 2 entrees.
They didn’t have enough staff for the evening. They were more concerned with the drinkers than the diners. Shame.
Food was ok. The services was extremely slow. To get a drink refill was impossible. It was not servers fault he seemed to be 1 of 2 serving whole restaurant.
My veggie plate was delicious! Not many DC restaurants offer this option, so if you're craving a veggie plate, make Commissary your next stop. Also, the Michael Scott quote on the menu warmed my heart.
Good atmosphere, food and service. I will definitely go back on a date, special occasion or just because.
This was a really good choice.
Admittedly not from the area, so absolutely grain of salt this review. Perfectly fine spot for breakfast, catering to the younger crowds in the area. My partner loved his pancakes and the avocado toast had a lovely poached egg on it.
This place has great service , good food for good prices. They are great with food allergies so I return frequently since they are very attentive and professional with my food allergies. It’s a great place
Food was okay. Left feeling hungry. Service was terrible.
The food was good and so was the service!
the fried chicken was dry and the curry meatball ap didn't hit the mark. everything else was very good though (especially service)
Sat outside at prime time for dinner and split a meal with a friend. Server could not have been more gracious when, in many instances, splitting would prompt a dirty look. She was terrific. However, greeting by host was terrible ... no eye contact no smile no questions about inside outside or any other seating preference, just whispering to a server about us. I experience the very same greeting at Logan tavern and have come to expect and almost accept unprofessionalism at check in at both restaurants and don’t let it affect my rating.
Decent food for a decent price.
Was happy to see table was already set up when I arrived ahead of time. Not sure if our server was new, but her sense of urgency just wasn’t there, she did no table maintenance at all, in fact the checks were dropped and no plates had been cleared. BUT she was very sweet and pleasant. I think a manager should have been more proactive.
Our waitress was lovely! So friendly and personable, love her!
Commissary was a good find. We went there for a surprise party, and the staff were accommodating with our fluctuating schedule, even though they were super busy. Our waiter was very patient and friendly. We ordered several appetizers for the table, and they were all great, but I have to especially shout out the shrimp and the vegetable nachos. Both soooo yummy. The nachos are HUGE too. All our food came out together, even though we had a large party, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The one negative was some of the cocktails. Some of them were yummy (like the rose sangria) and some of them were just totally bleh (like the peach old fashioned, I think it was).
Came here for a go away/bday dinner. They were super accommodating and great overall.
My husband and I were very disappointed with our experience here. It turned out to be a neighbourhood hangout, sports bar. It was loud and the food was not a good value
It was my first time there. Really cool and relaxed ambiance. The portions were very generous and the server was extremely polite.
We had a wonderful dinner at Commissary - per usual and our server Olivia was great! Commissary offers new American fare (everything from flatbread to burgers) with unique tastes and many vegetarian options. They just re-did the menu but still kept the classics and we’re loving the changes. More drink options were available - I got the Washington State Riesling and my boyfriend got the Great Lakes lager.
We like to get a bunch of appetizers and share everything because these are some of the best menu items. We got the Mumbo Wings, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Nachos with chicken... and usually we get the flash fried Brussels sprouts (they’re out of season right now). Great as always! Highly reccomended especially if you’re in the Logan Circle/East Dupont area.
A staple of DC dining!
I was sadly underwhelmed. The food was good, great location, nice ambiance. But all of that was ruined by the bad service. I made a reservation for 6 at 11 am for brunch and when we showed up on time they didn’t have space for 6 people. They gave our table to a group that showed up over an hour late and was only a party of four, they were still there after we left. We had to wait 20 mins for a 4 person table, and the table was empty when we came in, we were only waiting for them to write down the name of walk-in customers without reservations... When our food came out they just handed it to random people, not even listening to us saying it wasn’t ours. This was especially bad since we had a vegetarian in the group who unknowingly got someone else’s order that was similar to hers but with meet in it. Though they are bottomless they rarely come around to top off your drink. I do not recommend.
Commissary DC was a great place to have dinner with family and friends. The hostess was warm and accommodating as we wanted to sit outside but our reservations were for a table inside. Our waitress was personable, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was simple but delicious. We devoured the chicken nachos and the fish tacos were excellent. Summer drinks were on special and both my husband and I tried two of them which we both really liked. We were in town for a soccer tournament as feel luck we found Commissary. Saturday night was well spent.
While the food was okay and came out quickly, the service was unimpressive. Our waiter was completely disinterested and didn’t bother to even look at us while taking our order, then when we had finished, he brought us the bill without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert. I see others have said this as well.
The hummus platter was a meal in itself, and the breakfast tacos and crab benedict were both killer!
Took my girlfriend out for Birthday breakfast.
Service was excellent, food was delicious, and the prices were great compared to the other breakfast places we were looking at.
Excellent food and service in a trendy part of DC. The vibe was a little too forced trendy and there was some interesting furniture choices (thankfully not for us), but overall a great experience
It was a beautiful night so we sat outside. The service and food were both very good.
