I ordered the Fakkitas. They came out at least 15 minutes later than everybody's else's food. I was with a party of 5. I asked for little pink, medium rare. The cut of steak I got was the chewiest pinkest steak I have had in a long time. Since I got my food so much later, I really did not want to send it back.
Sorry, but the food was a bit of a disappointment. I thought the short rib stew was pretty fatty and veggies almost non existent. The dish was not as hearty as I expected. The k-town chicken was good but a bit bland. Hated the carrots :-(. Food wise the hit of the night for me and my nephew were the Brussels sprouts. Outstanding service though! Sorry, but could not recommend to a friend. I hear the bar is knockout though, even though we did not visit there, I’d recommend that from word of mouth😀
The food was excellent and the commitment to impeccable service was exceptional. I celebrated my 30th birthday here and can’t wait to come back again!
Good experience. Nice day. Good food. Sassy hostess was the only thing that annoyed me a bit.
As a group of six celebrating not one or two but 5 people’s birthday I was thoroughly disappointed. I called ahead and made it very clear that it was a celebration. We ordered multiple bottles of wine and tons of food. What we really bugged me is that we weren’t even brought a single dessert other than the one we ordered. No candles or anything.
Our water was not refilled and they had the audacity to charge for an espresso separate from the overall bill because they forgot to include it.
While the environment was great it seemed like there was a inattention to details that would cause me to go somewhere else in the future.
Loved the ambiance. The food was great as well as service. Would come back again.
I was underwhelmed by my experience, the food was mediocre, overpriced, hostess was glum, nothing here to recommend.
I had a friend visiting from out of town and decided to take her to Commissary for the first time. She absolutely loved the food and overall experience. I will definitely come back again for another meal.
Brunch was awesome. Fairytale atmosphere!
The greenhouse makes you feel really refreshing, and all cutlery, tableware used are very chic. Recommend here for a Sunday brunch.
Amazing venue, would be great for a function. Food was amazing.
I went there for the Easter Buffet brunch. The service was fantastic; particularly the woman in charge of refilling drinks. She immediately refilled my orange juice glass when it was empty. It appears the current trend for buffets is to no longer have a physical cooking station - i.e. omelets, eggs made to order etc, but to order it from your server. I can understand this results in avoiding long lines blocking others from going to other parts of the buffet, but it also results in smaller portions on extremely small plates. These plates were so small I had to place a napkin underneath the plate to catch drippings and falling food.
I also tried the lamb, which was quite dry. Perhaps this is how it is supposed to be served; I was expecting the shavings from a circulating pole as used in creating gyros.
Bottom Line: The service was great, the price was somewhat high for the portions served - this was perhaps because of the bottomless Mimosa drinks. However, I did not want alcohol and instead drank bottomless orange juice which is much cheaper than mimosa.
Finally, the menu was somewhat vague regarding specific en-trees. I may go again in a few years if they switch to larger servings, larger plates, and base their pricing on whether or not someone wants mimosas or instead just coffee/tea/juice.
My boyfriend and I stayed as guests at The LINE hotel and made reservations at the Commissary for early Sunday morning to celebrate our one year anniversary. Even though the restaurant is located in DTLA, the delightful ambiance makes you feel as though you've been transported into a modern day Garden of Eden. The Commissary has a greenhouse feel with tons of lush greenery and natural light spewing in from all directions. Everything about the place, from the funky mismatched tableware to the selection of healthy food, ties together perfectly. It was the perfect spot to grab fresh juice and start our Sunday morning. In addition, the staff members were all attentive and personable. When our assigned waiter went on break, the person covering for him politely came over and introduced himself to us. I found this as a surprise since not many places do this. I recommend The Commissary to anyone looking for a delicious bite and prime IG lighting . ;)
the food was hit or miss but the place is really cool and fun. drinks are great!
A very good experience there. Very comfortable, very nice, and you can take very pretty pictures there. Also, the serves were fantastic.
I had fun with friends there.
We came to Commissary with reservations for my friends birthday, and LORD, thank god we did because the venue itself is so much smaller than I imagined! Our original reso was for 6, but we came with 5 and the hostess and manager were soo accommodating and the manager on duty even offered to take our picture for us without us asking, he just knew (hahah were definitely guilty of coming for picture).
We came for breakfast/brunch, and on the weekends you have the option to do either the brunch buffet ($37 per person) or they offer their regular menu. The food portions were moderate, but were definitely yummy. I ordered the Turkey Club with fries and it was satisfying. My friends ordered the Chorquiles and Salmon Avocado toast, both were really good too.
Definitely a staple brunch/picture worthy spot!! I highly recommend making reservations Incase it gets busy because you have a mix of the hotel guests and regular walk ins. 2 hour parking is available (if you get lucky) or just use the valet at the hotel ($12 for 3 hours).
Beautiful environment - wish their lunch had bigger selection.
This restaurant on the 2nd floor of the LINE hotel in Koreatown is next to the hotel pool and is housed inside a green house. This makes for a super cool ambiance. The menu is pan-Asian fusion inspired and is ideally suited to sharing plates. While the menu is split into appetizers, mains, and sides, all of the portions are fairly generous. We we're 2 and ordered 4 plates but couldn't quite finish everything and left pleasantly full. The service was attentive and friendly. This is a great spot and I will definitely return when in the neighborhood.
We enjoyed a wonderful date night at commissary. We had the cauliflower tempura, Brussels sprouts and Korean fried chicken as well sticky date pudding for dessert. We enjoyed the vegetables the most and would have gotten more but our stomachs weren't big enough. The chicken was our least favorite but still good. The date pudding was amazing. Our server was extremely helpful and friendly. We wanted a nice slow dinner and we didn't feel rushed to order. The food came out in a timely fashion and was well presented.
We made a reservation and we still had to wait 30 minutes because the service waiter was on the phone during that time. Once we were seated, they didn’t have a chair for one of my party members so they brought a small wooden chair for her to sit in. When we protested the waiter said there were no more chairs left. When we pointed to the empty tables with proper chairs, the waiter finally agreed to switch out the tiny wooden chair. Further, the food was not good. The ambiance was nice but I wouldn’t recommend this place to a friend.
I went to The Commisary for my birthday. It was a birthday brunch to be exact and I messed it up from the beginning only reserving 2 spots rather than 4 for my whole family. But due to the staffs empathy and advisement I arrived early with the hopes of snagging a 4 top. And it happened. But not before I ordered 2 drinks (both delicious Espresso Martinis) 1 for myself the other for my girlfriend and to my complete surprise, they were comp’d!
The staffs attention to detail was on point as they remembered it was not only my birthday but that I was new to town. Right here, a new resident of Koreatown and a Big, Big fan of Breakroom 86 (and now the Commissary). I’d like to thank the wait staff especially Saundra (I think) who was one of the hostesses and Andrew who I spoke with on the phone the previous day for their assistance in bringing the event from a rocky start to a full blown rock star success.
I’ll be back,
Very friendly staff, healthy food, beautifully-decorated restaurant. This was a unique restaurant inside the greenhouse on the 2nd floor of the LINE hotel. Perfect for nice photos and a quick bite!
This place is amazing. Aside from not being geographically located in the *best* part of LA, everything about this restaurant is stunning. The food is amazing and is the perfect amount of items to choose from. Pick a few things, do them right, nothing to fix. Would recommend to anyone. The ambience is beautiful, and it isn’t too small. It’s the first time I have ever eaten in an actual green room which is so cool.
I was a little disappointed with the menu. I did not know when I called the restaurant the week before that one Saturday there was only 4 items for breakfast and lunch available to those who opt out of the $37 buffet. I was not happy about that because I didn’t want to eat too much, so it would have been a waste of money for the buffet. The 4 item menu for those who opt out of the buffet was not very good. I don’t think I will go back. Very beautiful place and great service. But not worth coming back considering I drove so far to at least try their pancakes or French toast which is not available unless you get the buffet option.
SO OVERPRICED. Foods nothing to write home about.
Cute place, though.
The Line is a super cute, hipster place complete with contemporary, mid-century Palm Springs vibe. Plants galore adorn the ceilings inside the glass (somewhat greenhouse-like) venue. At night, candles are lit everywhere, so it feels super romantic. DO reserve a table. DO get there early enough to try to find street parking. If not, valet it. $12 well worth the circling (which made us late for our reservations). I should add, I also really liked the dishware and textiles – there was a modern, romantic, country feel to the plates and linens.
Since we got there post 15 minutes after our reservation, our table was given away. It's their policy. Whatevs. Luckily, there were still 2 spots open at the bar! Again, great service. Friendly wait staff and bartenders who answered our silly questions, like: were the plants real? Prompt water-filling, timely serving of dishes.
[insert hands up emoji] DELICIOUS. I cannot tell you how many times my dinner companion commented on how many times I was saying: "It's so good. SO GOOD."
We ordered: Deviled eggs, shrimp scampi, bee's knees (NZ lamb lollipops on top of a white bean cassoulet), and the almond panna cotta.
The deviled eggs (thumbs up) were light and citrusy for a refreshing and tangy appetizer. The shrimp scampi – garlic-y and comforting, had tender and meaty portions of shrimp with an al-dente pasta that was topped with a white wine sauce and parsley.
But the show stopper? THE LAMB. The best damn lamb I've had in ages. Having reduced my red meat intake the past several months, this was worth the splurge. Tender, melt-worthy, savory with all the umami. The cassoulet was also on point. Tender without losing a firm texture. The spices addictive and every once in a while, a crunchy piece of garlic. OMG. OMG. SO GOOD. Order it.
The panna cotta? While the panna cotta was great, the almond jelly underneath was okay (a little too sweet, a little too much amaretto or almond extract used).
I hosted a business meal here for a party of 10. Everyone loved the restaurant, the food and the drinks. Truly delicious. Great service by the staff too. The music just a little loud for easy conversation but other than that, 5 stars. Great value.
I have eaten here a few times - twice brunch, once breakfast, and another time for lunch. To me the best meal of all seems to be the lunch with the emphasis on the rainbow power lunch which is a greens or grains based bowl with too many amazing options to choose from. Brunch had fabulous options, the buffet is unbelievably good but is quite indulgent. The congee and nachos at brunch were a hit, as was the chocolate fountain (for dipping fruit skewers), matcha pudding, chia raspberry pudding, pastries...Still, if the grain bowl had been available for brunch or breakfast, I would have gone for that.
The host was the absolute worst and was incredibly rude. There were 2 indoor tables open that seated 2 people by the bar and she refused to sit me and my boyfriend there for dinner. We were on time for our reservation and didn't want to sit outside because it was freezing. She sat us outside. When I noticed more tables were opening up, I went in to ask if we could be seated inside and she continued to refuse. She even said "I'm sorry, do you have a reservation?" I said, "Yes, you literally just sat us outside 5 minutes ago. Do you not remember me?" She even stated "other people are coming in for reservations so I cannot release those tables." Of course I know that, but we were there first and asked to be seated in doors so I don't understand why she couldn't accommodate. Was a horrible experience and would never go back. Such a disappointment.
Ambiance was amaaaazing, we went at night & it was a perfect date spot! Food was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be coming baxk
Absolutely amazing venue/atmosphere and great food. Highly recommend weekend brunch buffet!
The waiter was really nice, I’m satisfied with the service and the food. Totally recommend it
Yo, this place is outstanding. The ambiance/vibe are second to none. I wouldn't want to ruin this for you - go experience it for yourself. Now. 5/5 stars
Commissary by Roy Choi was an experience! The selection of the Sunday brunch was excellent and a great value - it really brought in the younger crowd. Place was packed; very noisy - could not carry on conversation without screaming. Great for the hippy young set!
Definitely make a reservation, it's a hot spot for sure, but one of the few that's worth the hype. Also, they only seat complete parties - so make sure your friends are on time (mine were not). We all got the brunch buffet (and bottomless mimosa) and the food options were plentiful and delicious - plus, despite being very busy, the service was lovely.
Server was amazing and very polite. Ambiance was beautiful. Excellent DJ.
Great food in a cool space with great service.
it was my first time visiting the Commissary @ Line Hotel. Price is little high than i was expected. Not very shareable dishes. It would be great if you want to join yourself in the middle of trees and plants
We were not made aware of the special menu
