The Avocado toast was delicious. Highly recommend. My friends for eggs and a English muffin and it looked pretty pathetic. Not worth the money.

Food was exceptional but the noise level made conversation challenging. I would go again but would choose the occasion and certainly not with someone that is hard of hearing.

Located just off the beaten path, Commerce is a great restaurant that delivers top quality dishes in a sophisticated yet comfortable setting. The deviled egg appetizer was creamy and full of flavor. The short rib ravioli was outstanding. Rich flavor and excellent fresh pasta. For dessert, I would recommend the coconut cream cake. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend this restaurant to everyone

Loved the fried oysters and the mango/tomato/feta salad. I'm from beef country, so a steak must be really good to impress me. The steak Diane was superb...melt in your mouth tender and fabulous sauce. You must order the coconut cake!!

I went to Commerce last weekend for my birthday, after having come across it during many aimless wanderings through Greenwich Village. I'd been intrigued by this historic building on a cobblestone street, especially the fact that it used to be a speakeasy. We arrived a little early but were seated right away, receiving extremely attentive service from our waiter and the sommelier. We had the burrata appetizer with snap peas, mint, and chili - delicious! My only "complaint" was that I wished it were twice as large. For the main course I had the spaghetti carbonara with pepper and coddled egg yolk - the pasta was great and while the dish was rich (I took half home) it was delicious. My boyfriend had the salmon with spring vegetables, and while the dish was a little too subtle for his liking the fish was cooked perfectly. For dessert we tried the "famous" coconut cake (literally, there's an article about it in the entryway) and it was lovely - and huge! The third serving is still in my freezer. In terms of ambiance, the reviews I read didn't lie - the acoustics are not great and it's LOUD! However, the boisterous and eclectic crowd mixed with the deco/art nouveau decor is classic old New York. Overall, a great meal and experience!

We had a dinner reservation and part of our group was late due to subway issues. The staff were beyond friendly to us. We were seated, offered drinks and appetizers, and were never rushed even though our party had not yet arrived. When our guests arrived, we enjoyed an excellent meal and what really is the best coconut cake around.

Had a good dinner at Commerce, though I can't put my finger on why it wasn't quite special. The food was excellent, service was friendly, and the ambiance was pleasant. The restaurant, located adjacent to the Cherry Lane Theater, is ideal for a pre- or post-curtain meal, and the next time I head to the theater, I'll return eagerly to Commerce again. But I don't think of it as a destination restaurant, as happy as my dinner made me. Maybe the menu didn't rouse enough curiosity, maybe the staff's obviously satisfied attitude at Commerce's success was a subtle turnoff. Otherwise, the dinner was delightful.

Loved the food, loved the service. The bar takes up the entire length of one side of the dining room, and on Saturday evening it was hopping! Which made our little table of three located at the far end (away from the entrance door) of the bar feel rather intimidated by the bar crowd. Amazing that the waitstaff was able to makes us feel well looked-after in the middle of all that! Would love to try it again, not on a week-end!

You can get a couple of appetizers and entrees from the dinner menu (along with other exclusives) during Tavern Lunch on Fridays/Saturdays, which are great times to go if you want a cute little lunch escape. The fried chicken is AMAZING, and the sweet potato toretelloni, short rib ravioli, carbonara, and salad of 20 herbs and lettuces are staples here. Don't forget to have coconut cake! But be aware, especially after a delicious filling meal, it's good to share between 2-4 people.

We made a reservation through open table for 8 p,m, when we arrived at the front desk and we were escorted to the bar, and did not get seated until 9:30, when we approached the extremely rude hostess to speak with a manager it took another 15 minutes , ugh this was a special occasion dinner for my daughter which was ruined. Regardless of the busy night , this is not an acceptable way to treat a reservation made through this reservation system

Hadn't been to this spot since it turned over to Commerce, located on one of the best and most quaint blocks in Greenwich Village. Cannot say the same for the restaurant. Noting that we were there on a Saturday night, my immediate impression was 'cramped'. Too many tables in the space (way more than the prior restaurant) and the bar area is not well set off and teams over onto the dinner tables/booths. Would be one thing if this was a pub or sports bar, but it is a fairly pricey restaurant. In fact, at some points it was so crowded that our waitress was very challenged in getting to us (and also, our food took way too long). While the food is good-- good food is not hard to find in the West Village. I'd recommend going someplace with both good food and a comfortable atmosphere-- especially on a Saturday night!

I visited Commerce as a last minute choice, entertaining a good friend, and I wasn't sure what to expect as I was not familiar with the place. I thought that every food item was absolutely executed to perfection. So we had three apps, the burrata, hamachi crudo, and the 20 herb salad. All remarkable! The burrata was a quite unexpected pairing with the sugar snaps, some greens, and spices but worked incredibly well, and the 20 herbs salad might have been the best green salad I've ever had. The hamachi was sublime as well. The mains, Ravioli, Filet mignon Diana and the ramps were all excellent. We had a lovely bottle of Northern Rhone Cote Rotie, which the lady Sommelier helped us select. It paired marvelously with both of the mains. The server, never got her name, a good looking short haired blonde, was just on the ball, always there when we needed her, not overbearing, and yet very helpful. OK, I will stop now, as I might sound a bit overtly enthusiastic, alas it was just amazing. Loved it!

Commerce is tucked away in the West Village, making you feel like you are walking up onto a movie set. The street corner is beautiful and quiet, a place like no other in NYC. The food and service is first class with sides to share a-plenty. We had a group of 6 people and they accommodated quite well for a smaller NYC restaurant. I went with 4 people who had never been (and were visiting NYC) and of all the places we tried over the weekend they will rave about Commerce until the next visit. Highly recommend!

Made a 9 PM reservation on the day of (Friday). Perhaps I should have known something was off when this restaurant had that many reservation spots open Friday afternoon, because when we arrived at 8:50, this place was PACKED to the gills (the bar, the entrance, the actual restaurant) and people were irate at the hostesses. It was clear they were very far behind on reservations and were trying to do their best, but every time a party became the least bit forceful about being seated, they got sat right away at the expense of someone else. Since my party and I never complained, we were seated at 9:45 PM. I thought things were looking up but then our waitress came over and was not friendly at all. I told her I was on a low-carb diet and would she recommend an entree to suit? She named the most expensive one (the steak) and when it arrived, the steak was on a pile of potatoes (which I couldn't and didn't eat). Aside from that, this was the order of which we received our initial drink order and appetizers - 1. appetizers arrived 2. bread arrived 3. drinks arrived 4. water arrived. I don't think I have ever been somewhere were appetizers were fired so fast that drinks or even water weren't there first. The kitchen clearly wanted people OUT. The manager eventually came over (same manager who was avoiding eye contact with us during our 45 minute wait). He apologized for the wait and comped our first round of drinks. That was nice, and I have a feeling he had to do a lot of drink-comping that night, but it was definitely a widespread problem for this restaurant to be missing so many reservations. The actual meal was good but you can find lots of good food in New York City's West Village to eat without having to experience this kind of service. I don't think I'd send anyone here.

Got a reservation at last minute but place was jammed and too loud as usual. Tables too close together to even walk through the room. Ordered drinks and waited 20 mins for them to arrive. Server apologized, saying the "bar is backed up." Food came before drinks arrived. Food fine, nothing special. After the meal we tried to pay in cash and were told they don't take it. This place presents too many challenges to a nice dining experience. Good option for people who don't mind suffering.

I had been here for dinner before and truly the food is very good. I guess something must have been happening this time, because they were just packed up. My bad luck I had picked it for hubby's birthday dinner. 7ppl squeezed into a table sized for 5 and yelling above the din to be heard. I had to try lip reading to follow conversations. Service was slow due to the obviously unexpected busyness. Notwithstanding it was a birthday dinner, nobody in our party wanted to stay for dessert. I really could not recommend it following this experience....

I would recommend going during the week instead of the weekend because it tends to be very packed Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The good first, I got an excellent gimlet at the bar. Secondly, this place is loud and they pack in the tables so be prepared for it. The food was delicious we got deviled eggs to share and salmon for an entrees. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and helping my friend with in choosing a gluten free option. My annoyance about the service came with the coordination between staff. We had ordered a bottle of wine from the waitress about 5 minutes later the sommelier (I think) comes over and asks if we like to order a bottle. I told we had from the waitress and which bottle. Without asking our tastes or even what we were having for dinner she recommends a bottle that is $15 more than what we had ordered.

I have been to Commerce several times now. I love the food. The service is really great. The only drawback is the noise level; the tile floors, hard ceilings and lack of fabrics make for a really, really noisy restaurant. If you need a quiet place, I would think twice. But, if you're fine with the noise level, then by all means...GO! All of the food is excellent.

Given the area, the amount of people there, the food menu, and the prices, I expected an excellent meal. The service was fine, everyone was very friendly but the food left much to be desired. The quality of the food was not worth the price at all and given how many more places are in the area I don't understand why there were so many people waiting in the restaurant. I felt like I had wasted my money and I will not be coming back.

Very disappointed - average food and atrocious service. We arrived on time for our 9:30 reservation. The small waiting room in the front was packed and there were several parties waiting outside as there was no more space at the bar. After waiting to be called for 30 minutes outside, we decided to check on the status on our table. The hostess told us that there were two tables that paid and are leaving any second. 10 minutes later we checked again and she rolled her eyes and walked away. We kept on and another 15 minutes later, I think, they got so fed up with us that they gave our party of 6 a table for 4. The hostess had to bring additional chairs from another table, pushing and hitting other customers in the process. No apology for almost an hour delay was made. Our waitress was unenthusiastic, to say the least, and was mostly pushing the drinks. The food arrived on time and was very uneventful besides my husband steak, which arrived medium-well instead of medium-rare per his order. When he asked one of the drink servers to call our waitress, she showed up 15 minutes later only to tell him that this is how they cook it (which she failed to mention when he ordered it). Needless to say, we did not stay for desert. I can't believe this sort of service has a place within the West Village dining scene. I will not be returning to Commerce ever again.
