Food just okay and over priced. Nice ambience and good service but good quality/value makes it probably not a future choice when in Huntsville.
Sat at a table for 2 in the middle. If you sit here, be prepared to have the servers’ rear-ends literally inches from your face when they are serving the booths beside you. Everyone around us got rolls, and after about 10 minutes we had to ask for them. Water and beer sat empty for 10 minutes. Ordered the New York Strip medium-rare and it was medium-well. The flavor of the steak was good, and my husband’s Mahi-Mahi was good. Did not receive a steak knife as others did with their steaks. Was not able to ask for one as the server did not return for ~15 minutes after food arrived. It’s also so loud that you can’t hear each other over the table when talking. We resorted to texting each other. One of these things alone would have been seen a a simple mistake and not bothered me, but all together made for a terrible experience, especially when paying $100+ for dinner for 2.
Fantastic location, staff, and menu. We always enjoy dining with the folks at Commerce!
They need to add drapes, carpets or something to reduce the noise level. Really awful noise level.
Order the Shrimp and Grits~ best I’ve had and that was agreed upon by my friend from New Orleans!
We had a wonderful meal with friends with great service and food! The only negative is one side of the table is almost in the walking path of the waiters. There is no real way to fix the problem but a booth is much more comfortable for four.
Excellent food highlighted by superb service! Another gem for Huntsville!
Great food and staff
We love both this restaurant and Cotton Row. This meal was very good, two had prime rib and two had mahi-mahi, fried oyster appetizer was excellent. Server was efficient and very personable. Everything was great until we were about done with the main course and a group of about 15 came in and the decibel level immediately increased to the unbearable level. Had it been that loud when we walked in we would have passed on dinner completely. As it was we asked our server if we could move outside for dessert, but outside tables were all committed. We left and went to Cotton Row for quiet dessert outside. Not blaming management, not sure there’s much they could do, but having to shout across the table to be heard by our booth mate is not our style.
The shrimp and grits was amazing. My husband had the pork chop and was a serious slab of meat. Green fried tomatoes and Pinot noir. Food and service both 5 stars.
Great food and service!
Wow Brunch was great! Food and overall service was awesome!
Great food, beautiful atmosphere and wonderful service. Commerce never disappoints.
Met a friend there for lunch. Everything was perfect. Asked for view of courthouse and was seated with courthouse in view. Had shrimp and grits and it was great. Hope to return soon. Only negative would be it was a little loud.
The restaurant was extremely crowded and so noisy we couldn't hear each other or the server. We don't plan to return.
Colleagues of mine told me about Commerce Kitchen many times. I finally had time and was in town, so I tried it. The food was delicious and the bread pudding is to die for!
Amazing as always
We went for the first time for our anniversary. The food was excellent, the service was great, and our friend Kayla (employee) even bought us a desert!! I’d highly recommend this place to anyone!
My husband and I love Commerce Kitchen and especially love dining in the outdoor seating area along the side of the restaurant during the warm weather months. The area is well shaded by trees and the view of historic downtown Huntsville and the opportunity to watch folks strolling around the Square is relaxing. The seating inside this lovely old building is cozy, casually upscale, and moderately noisy (you should still be able to carry on a decent conversation). Commerce Kitchen is a local restaurant - not a chain. It is usually packed, so plan to make reservations! The food is very good. The menu is not huge, but there's a selection in almost any category (chops, chicken, seafood, steak, pasta, etc.). There are daily specials and the regular menu always contains local specialties or items with a special "twist" - like fried green tomatoes or burgers with pimento cheese, Falls Mills Shrimp & Grits, and Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Sweet Potato Mash & Collard Greens. Portions are moderate and when we leave we are satisfied but not overstuffed! The Spinach and Fried Egg Salad is my "go to" for lunch and for summer dining - light, but filling and the blue cheese dressing and crumbles add nice tang. I've had the Harissa Salmon and the fish is always tender, moist and flavorful --cooked just right. The petite rolls served before dinner are wonderful -- so soft and "right out of the oven" warm! Prices are a little on the higher side, but the quality of the food and drinks is consistent, the service has always been good whenever we have dined, and the ambience and charm make it well worth it. Don't expect this to be "fast" food or to "tie the feed bag on." This is meant to be relaxed dining. Have a cocktail and sit back and enjoy good conversation. Commerce Kitchen is gracious without being pretentious -- a nice taste of true Southern hospitality.
Everyone ordered filets. 2 ordered medium-rare and 2 ordered medium. 3 came out medium and one was medium-well.
Great service and food. A little pricey but was worth it
Good food, good service. Entrees and specials were excellent. Recommended wine was excellent. I was a bit surprised we never got any bread.
It was amazing as always!!!
The Father’a Day brunch was delicious. Our server, Tim, was excellent and most attentive.
This is the third time we have eaten at Commerce Kitchen, and it will be our last. Service was poor. We saw our waiter when he took our drink order, our food order, and when he brought dessert. We had to flag people down to get refills. He never checked in to see if our food was OK. This was a limited menu for Father's Day, and every course had something missing our wrong. The fried oysters had bits of shell in them. I ordered the shrimp and grits and the fried egg that was supposed to be on top (kind of obvious) was missing. I guess that is better than the table next to us where the grits were missing. My kids got the stuffed French toast. One of them got the syrup and butter, and the other didn't. Luckily, there was enough to share because again, no one checked to see if it was OK. Desserts were missing their toppings. The red velvet was supposed to have candied pecans and the cheesecake a berry medley. None on either. A very unimpressive experience especially for the price.
This was our first time at Commerce Kitchen. Heard great things & wanted to try it out. We waited uncertainly in the “entrance” (which was the bar) for 5 minutes. We were then taken to our table for two, which was tiny and stuck in the middle of the aisle. We were so closely packed, when the waiter at the next table poured water for other diners, it splashed onto my bare arm. Every time a server walked by, I had to lean away. The food was pretty good, but I couldn’t really enjoy it, being so uncomfortable with my surroundings. I won’t be back.
Food is always
Best cheesecake of my life!!
Great good, excellent service, nice location on the town square.
AMAZING Brunch. Something for everyone and the brunch punch is spectacular
We have been to Commerce Kitchen many times and consider it a go to for special occasions. We will not be back. The food was not up to their usuals standards. My husband’s pork chop was tough & dry and he was unable to eat it. My meal was greasy & tasteless. The sever stated they would “Comp” our dessert but when we received the bill we were charged for both dessert & the meal. No refill was offered on our drinks. My husband had to request they not “water down” his drink when requesting a refill. Very disappointing night.
Overall we enjoyed our visit. The wait staff was prompt and friendly. The service was excellent. The menu Item I selected was properly cooked and was excellent. My only complaint is the on line menu did not accurately reflect the menu we were offered at the restaurant. I had my heart set on the lamb that was on the online menu but not available at the restaurant.
Had a great first date here and the food, wow, was excellent!!
Professional dinner with executive. The crab dip appetizer was decent. He ordered a burger with egg and gruyere and loaded baked potato, which he was well pleased with. I got the special pan seared mahi mahi with pasta. My fish was overdone and pretty tough, but the flavor was good and the was pasta was very nice. We finished with the cheesecake which was fantastic. Service was top notch.
Simply elegant and amazing. I enjoyed my lunch and I really enjoyed the quiet and intimate atmosphere Commerce Kitchen provided.
Our food was delicious and our server was kind and very attentive! They walked to Cotton Row to get us more champagne for our mimosas! Very nice Sunday Brunch spot!
Another great meal at Commerce Kitchen. Always great food and service.
Our go-to place... consistently excellent. Shrimp and Grits is the best I've had on the planet.
Nice place, just wouldn’t order a steak there. No flavor, but the atmosphere and waitress was nice.
Amazing food and excellent service, Congratulations Chef Boyce!!
