Columbia Restaurant - Ybor City Ratings and Reviews
If I could honestly leave a 0 star rating I would. It was our first time ever eating here after living in Tampa for years. My wife and I just moved to Ybor and chose the Columbia for our date night. The dining area was a bit loud which is very normal and not a complaint but our server basically whispered and we couldn’t hear him. We asked him to repeat himself several times. 25 min later he came back with our waters and took our order. Which in my opinion is an unacceptable amount of time to preform this task. He took our order 5 min later. Shortly after that my water sat empty for another 10 min. The appetizer was decent. We had crab croquettes. We were there for nearly an hour by the time we got our meals. My wife had the rib eye steak and it was brought to the table with out a steak knife. As she attempted to cut it with a butter knife is when I finally had enough. We were able to flag a manager who came to the table. His name was Don. He wasn’t mean or caring to the situation. Seemed mostly indifferent. We requested the check and he brought it back. He compt our appetizer which was the only thing we ate and had us pay for the 2 dinners which we didn’t eat. We left paying for $73 worth of food we didn’t eat or take with us because the service experience was so horrible.
The hostess wasn’t friendly, seemed mad when we questioned how long we’d have to wait even though we had a reservation! The table we received was not great, definitely not for a special occasion, I wasn’t going to ask the hostess to move us since she already seemed mad! the service was very slow, but the food was excellent!!
The food was good as usual. The service was good too. BUT, we had reservations for 4pm. We arrived 10 to 4pm. At the front there were four girls playing with the menu, talking, laughing and a lot of guests with reservations. We all waited, we waited and waited. Nothing happened. Finally, at 4:30 pm we got a table. In the room to which we were taken, only two tables were occupied. The rest of the tables were empty. If the restaurant can not handle so many guests, it should not accept reservations. We did not plan to celebrate Valentine's Day with such a delay.
I've been to Columbia ybor on several occasions and never been disappointed. The quality of the food is always excellent. Servers are knowledgeable of all the menu choices and are eager to assist in meal selection.
The menu is wonderful, I totslly enjoyed the 1905 salad and the Pork ala Cubana. Portions are perfect and can't wait to return to further explore Columbia ybor offerings.
Outstanding meal and service in the newly reopened original dining room - chandelier is amazing even when they told us they had just put it back up that day as we sat below it. Our waiter Mark was friendly and knowledgeable; Handmade Sangria at the table and serving of meals was fun. Only disappointment was that the website didn’t make clear there was no show that night - and though we don’t need a reason to return we look forward to our next visit including the show.
It's been awhile since dining at Columbia, but worth the return visit. Authentic Cuban food, reasonably priced, served with skill. The sangria was delicious, though I had a headache for the rest of the day. Portions are generous and it's easy to overeat, but the restaurant is near the Tampa IKEA, so we could walk it off.
Florida's oldest restaurant. It's vibrant and interesting. My hubby, a bit of a picky eater, gives it two thumbs up. He recommends the Bloody Mary. The wait staff are seasoned experts. The restrooms are ample, clean, and convenient. Each room had its charm.
started bad & got worse from there. My open table reservation time said 8Pm. I was told by host that it was impossible and when I showed her my phone reservation showing 8 PM she then refused to take any responsibility and blamed the system as if her system, her restaurant and her were all separate. She was rude and dismissive of me. After gettting seated, the waitress seemed annoyed that we were not able to make a decision as to what we wanted to eat on her schedule. The $48 sangria was so watered down I think I paid heavily for kool-aid. This was my wedding anniversary and I kept my mouth shut to not create a scene and ruin it for my party. If anyone from management would have come to table I would have went someplace private and voiced my concerns however the server did not check back to see if all was good and no one from management was seen. My conclusions are that the clientele is largely one time guests on vacation and good service for repeat business is not a consideration of the establishment. Presently they can forget repeat business from this local.
