Columbia Restaurant - Ybor City Ratings and Reviews
It felt like the pace of the service was a little slow; he didn’t check on us as frequently as we would have liked. And our server seemed to not quite finish what he was doing before taking on a new task, which may have contributed to our perception that he was taking too long in completing tasks. In the end, we were only there for a little more than an hour, however, so the pace must not have been quite as slow as it felt.
Based on the reviews we decided to try this place out for our 30th wedding anniversary. Was pretty disappointed at the taste of food. Their famous salad was good, but you really have to look for the ham and cheese. The soup was cold and very salty. The tapas was also cold and we sent it back but it came right back to us at the same temperature. Cold ribs are never good. I believe that Publix has a better Cuban sandwich. The coconut ice cream and the bread pudding were delicious, at least dessert was good.
The classic and original 1905 Cuban restaurant in the heart of Ybor City. The ambiance is great, the service is exceptional, the food delish and the portions good size. Prize range is about $35 per person with salad or $28 without, or a little more with tapas. Wine ranges $26-$40 a bottle average and decent but small selection.
Tapas were cold and over cooked but the sangria, mojitos, show and our waiter were fantastic. They did offer us other tapas, apologized, and were very gracious about everything multiple times. It was my birthday and our first time going to this landmark restaurant, I was disappointed after looking forward to it for so long. They did give me a special birthday card and a delicious free dessert (flan).
My mom and I made a lunch reservation and had a wonderful experience. It had been about 50 years since she last dined here and she was excited to return. We were promptly seated at a table near the door, with limited walking for my mom, as we requested in our online reservation. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and accurate. The food was delicious and we only wished we could've tried more but we couldn't hold one more bite. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and I certainly hope it stays open for at least another 100 years.
Very bad experience with my server named Tommy. We asked for a after dinner drink a Liquor 43 And was told that the restaurant didn’t carry it. Upon leaving we stopped at the bar and made an inquiry of our own and discovered that he truly was there. Timing was just not interested in going down to the board level to service us accordingly.
We had 6pm reservations and didn't get our food until 8pm and it was ice cold!
My 5-year-old daughter was with us and we requested the waitress bring out her macaroni and cheese before our meal. Her response was they can't "take it out of the plastic wrapping" before everything else is ready. Ewe!
She was very unapologetic and appeared to not care about the poor service. The only reason someone should go to The Columbia is for its history.
I LOVE this place. It’s great for any meeting large or small. If you haven’t checked it out you aren’t doing yourself justice. Atmosphere (hidden rooms you can book)... huge bar, great food... bread and butter is amazing. This is by far my “go to” place when I go to Tampa or St. Armand’s circle. It’s perfect for any occasion and just fun in general.
Our favorite restAurant in Tampa! The specials are always good but my go to is the tapas.. love the seafood. The wine they offer is great as well as the sangria! My kids even love it because they can just get black beans and plantains. Always great service also
Server, Frank, was friendly but not efficient. Brought butter but no bread. Sangria and margarita took 20 minutes! Food was very slow to come out- over 30 min from order. We were there at 5:30 on a Sat so not crazy busy. One in my party order ribeye and it was over cooked and tough. I got chicken Valencia-which was supposed to be half a chicken. What a joke-served 1/2 a breast, a scrawny leg and wing and no thigh! We would have sent back those two dishes but Frank was nowhere to be seen . I have been to the Columbia many times and this was my worst experience ever...quality is way downhill!
I ordered the Cuban combination and it was a sloppy, soggy mess of garbage piled on top of warm garbage. The bread was good and server and assistant were professional and efficient. The Celebration location is a much nicer restaurant with better food preparation.
It’s always a treat to dine at the Columbia. We called ahead of time so they could decantvthe wine we always order. We were a party of eight. Everyone got something different and they all loved what they ordered. Several of us got dessert which was also fabulous. The service is top notch. It can get noisy in the bar area they had a live band so the noise level was high. We were on the patio in a corner so it was ok for us I highly recommend this establishment
