Wonderful restaurant great food! Staff was attentive and friendly.
Excellent gluten free menu
We were seated immediately with our reservation yet took 45 min to receive drinks. We were ready to put in our food order with the drink order yet the server wouldn't take our order. All 4 of our drinks remained empty during our meal. I was constantly bumped into by kitchen staff as they rushed in and out of the kitchen doors we were seated directly in front of. I am extremely disappointed and don't see myself ever going back.
Food above average. Service slow. Appeared well intentioned wait staff either understaffed or just overwhelmed.
We had been to their restaurant in Tampa which was excellent. We had some difficulties with the food which was acknowledged and taken care of. We would go try again.
The bread was out of this world and the waitress was very kind by offering me extras. Food was delicious and plate was quite large.
Each one of our party of 8 thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance, the perfectly prepared food and our charming waiter. Save room for dessert......out of this world key lime pie!
Girlfriends special gathering from all over the USA. The food was only mediocre plus. The waiter was fun, gracious and respectful.
The food wasn't anything spectacular especially for the price
Had wonderful sampling of tapas. However, would avoid fried shrimp which was all breading and very little shrimp. Food was very good and sangria was terrfic--not too sweet and pitcher was good value. Wonderful, Spanish decor and atmosphere; would recommend you sit on second floor. Service very good. Would return. Despite good crowd it was not noisy at all so no concern with noise level.
It was great!!
Dirty tables/ dishes left everywhere in a virtually empty restaurant. Place settings were dirty upon sitting. I felt gross eating there. Needs better management.
We come to the St. Augustine area annually for the month of March. Columbia is always on the "to do" list. We have never been disappointed. We also appreciate that Columbia is one of the very few restaurants in the area that makes reservations since we are not big fans of waiting in a long line for a table. Thanks!
My review is for the time that I went. I have had better experiences then this particular visit.
Had a girls' 50th birthday celebration here. Great food, great ambiance, GREAT sangria. It was really a good night. Service was a little slow (took over 3 hours for dinner) but - again - the whole evening was a celebration and the food came out at the right times. Just think our server may have had one too many tables (even though she was very pleasant). Would definitely go again.
Excellent service and great food.
Told them it was an anniversary, sat us in the bar area, bar on one side, kitchen door on the other, seemed upset when we asked for a different table, server was a bit rude, and talked over my wife, had to ask for refills twice. Glad the food was superb and helped make up for the service
Excellent customer service
Audrey is an excellent server! Food is consistently excellent.
The parking lot was closed off even though there were spaces but the food was great
The Columbia is a family favorite and it rarely disappoints!! Waitress was wonderful & food was amazing.
Absolutely loved The Columbia! I shared the "Tapeo" Sampler with my four dining companions, where we had the Chorizo "Española", Calamares Fritos "Romana", and the Scallops "Casimiro". It was perfectly sized and definitely whet our appetites for our entrees. I shared the Paella "a la Valenciana" with one of my dining companions, which was definitely the right choice. Sharing it, the dish was perfectly portioned and we were able to finish it, which I definitely would not have been able to if I ordered it on my own.
The Sangria de Cava was delightfully refreshing and delicious. Even though the restaurant says that the pitcher of sangria serves 4, it easily served all 5 of us. As an added bonus, they make the sangria at the table.
I thought the wine list was very interesting and our waiter was incredibly helpful when it came to assisting me with my wine choice. He seemed to be very knowledgeable about all of the wines on The Columbia's menu and I was very pleased.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a casual get-together (even if it is on the more mid-range pricing), dates, as well as business meals, as the atmosphere is delightful and not too noisy. I would also strongly recommend making a reservation if you are dining with a group larger than 4.
We had a great server and our meals were very good.
Dave was an outstanding server and the food was fabulous! Thank you for a great girls lunch!!
I have fond memories of eating here with my family 20 years ago and took my husband and children to relive those moments. However I found the table and flat wear dirty. The grout on the table was stained. The fish was amazing but only a forth of it was on my plate the rest of the plate was a mound of rice. Both equally delicious but not for 26 dollars at lunch time. This was the special of the day.
Would love to see this restaurant return to its glory days. It’s beautiful inside.
The Columbian has been my favorite restaurant in St Augustine for the 40+ years I’ve lived in the area. Being Cuban, I loved everything about it. I don’t know if they have new cooks, but the last 3 times I’ve been there, within 6 months, the food just isn’t right. Last night the maduros were burned, the Palomilla steak was very dry and part of it burned and crispy, my granddaughter would not eat it and that child has always LOVES the Columbia palomillas. The Ropa Vieja was very runny and the tomato sauce over powered the other flavors.
I hope management pays closer attention, as It would be a huge shame for this restaurant to loose its place as part of the St Augustine magic, history, and charm.
Excellent food and sangria. Had the grouper Jimmy and it was phenomenal!
Very unsatisfactory experience this past Thursday. In 45 minutes we had a glass of water-then bread came. The entire meal was a disaster. The special 1905 salad was excessively blanketed in olive oil; the bread was stale; the 1906 beer was flat; the empanadas were really greasy. Our Tuesday night experience was quite positive but the awful overall dinner on Thursday would preclude us from returning, sorry to say.
Waitress never came back to check on us. Spotted another waiter and instead of handling the issue. He just replied I will find her. We eat here and other Columbia restraints never experienced this poor level of service.
Our first time was an exceptional experience. Great service, ambiance, food was amazing. We will definitely be back! Thank you Columbia restaurant for a great dining experience!
My Husband and I take my parents and family there when they visit from Albany,NY area. We love it because of the authentic Spanish and Cuban cuisine. My Grandfather was originally from Cuba, he came here in 1928 to work for General Electric in Schenectady, NY. Which was the original headquarters of G.E. and he became a naturalized US citizen that same year. We love to taste food from his original homeland and celebrate our Spanish heritage. Your Staff are exceptional and every visit is wonderful! Thank you all at the Columbia restaurant!
Excellent food and service. Make a reservation, as it is very popular,
Friends and myself decided to try this restaurant after another friend recommended -- we were quite pleased w/the service, quality of food, prep at our table, friendliness of all staff -- will definitely recommend to others. Thank you.
Great place! I love the location right by lots of cute shops. The decor is wonderful and feels like your in Cuba back in time. The food is EXCELLENT!!!! Very authentic and flavorful. I can’t wait to return!
The hostess was rude the night we were there. There were four of us and she sat us at a 6 top because there were no clean tables. We told her we would wait for a clean table for 4 and she still wasn't nice about it. The server seemed overwhelmed with tables and the service was slow. It took a long time just to get a drink. We were in no hurry and the food was delicious. Have had a better experience in Tampa.
A great restaurant with a wonderful reputation. Fascinating building. The service was very attentive. Our food was slightly disappointing this time. My chicken was dry even though it was an entree cooked to order. Had to wait 20 minutes .
I've been to the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor city several times and had great experiences every time. This was my first time at this location and although the facility is really nice, the food wasn't really spectacular. I expect the prices to be high for being in the best part of Historic St Augustine but the food was not special at all. My filet mignon with the shot of bourbon flambe was gimmicky and just made the stake taste like rubbing alcohol. My Mother had the palomilla steak and it looked like it was pulled out of a warming drawer and had no flavor. I will say the waitress was great. I think they need to step up their game a bit.
My sister and her husband visited from cold Connecticut. We brought them to Columbia because Columbia has never let us down. The food, service and atmosphere are all always spectacular. The four of us shared eight (EIGHT!) Tapas, each one more delicious than the last. We all thoroughly enjoyed the small plates, and our server was attentive without being over bearing. For a change, we saved room for dessert (or rather, we decided we could not pass dessert up this time!). We shared two flan and two crema catalana. Wonderful!
Great atmosphere and food quality! Love it! One of our favorite places in st aug or tampa!
Fabulous evening spent in the beautiful Columbia Restaurant. Our family of four enjoyed excellent service, food, and the lively atmosphere of this classic location.
Great atmosphere. Food heavy if you're on any kind of a diet and wine a bit overpriced. Overall, fairly enjoyable.
