Columbia Restaurant - St. Augustine Ratings and Reviews
Columbia Restaurant was a fun evening for a family gathering to celebrate family birthdays and the Christmas season. Convenient to stroll afterward and enjoy St. Augustine's Nights of Lights. Columbia confirmed reservation the morning of event. We were seated promptly. Service was excellent and the food spoke of its Spanish heritage. Our table overlooked a historic St. Augustine strolling street with many local shops drawing lots of foot traffic. Tied with the Nationally renowned Nights of Lights Christmas decorations in nearby square as well as historic buildings and local shops, it was a wonderful way to spend an evening with family. Even the 3 year old was enjoyed the food and evening.
The food was excellent, the service was good.. the atmosphere was terrible. I asked the hostess for a special spot since it was an Anniversary dinner. We were apparently placed on a path to the back stairs leading to the kitchen downstairs. Every service person passing us was practically running to attend to their duties. The servers carrying large trays would holler "CORNER!" as they approached the stairs. I wouldn't recommend going there for a romantic setting. Too frenetic for our taste. There was actually other seating available and we were disappointed with our arrangement.
We went to The Columbia for my Daughter's graduation from Flagler College. From the atmosphere, to the food, to the service and back again, everything was perfect. Everything was absolutely delicious and I must say that the Flan was the best that I have ever had, including my Grandma's secret recipe....
The table side 1905 salad is a must have when you visit. I had the Filet Steak Salteado and my companion had the Grouper Jimmy. Both meals were cooked to perfection and the portions were large. We ended our meal with Flan and I must admit, I have not had better flan anywhere.
I've been coming here for years. One of my favorites. Any one who comes i. Town i bring them here for the signature salads and cuban sandwiches. Never disappointed only one time with service, but you always have that one time, and one waiter that is having a off day. I suggest this as a place to eat while in town.
We were excited to reserve space at Columbia for our Business end of year holiday luncheon. However we were disappointed that we placed a reservation for 8 people a week and a half in advance and were placed in very tight sitting space, using only 2 tables pushed together (of uneven heights), there was not enough room for three people to sit along the sides and 2 at the head with the size of dining ware and number of plates, glasses, etc delivered to the table. Only 7 out of 8 meals arrived at our table initially 4 of them were cold. When the last meal finally arrived, everyone else was already done with their meals. Also the dish was served different from how it has always been served in the past, it seemed like a complete rush to just "throw" something on a plate and finally get it to the table. Our server seemed chaotic and scrambling to remember what was ordered and who requested what dish. At multiple times during our lunch there was a debate and question to members of our party as to what was supposed to be provided with / without the meal requested. This said, our experience fell a bit flat.
Ordered the Bambino at the Columbia in Clearwater and the food was excellent. Best steak I have ever eaten. Ordered the same in St Augustine in the dish was terrible. Very disappointed in my meal. The service was good and the ambiance was nice, but I was really disappointed that the dish was not the same.
The good was good, but our server Rebecca was having a horrible shift and was letting all the tables know about it. We watched one table leave after an hour without their food, heard her apologizing to another table about her mistake with their order, then forgot to ring in our appetizer. After the other tables left and we had the section to ourselves, our server and a hostess stood right behind us gossiping for about ten minutes. It felt like we were eating in a break room. The food was delicous, but the service was so unprofessional it ruined the experience.
The restaurant did not have our reservation, was understaffed, and the wait for food and service was unacceptably long. They did not live up to expectations nor did they try nd make up for lackluster service or food. Highly disappointing, especially for such an expensive dining experience!
Had a reservation for 7. Most of our party made it and was able to park. The other part (3 of us) sat in traffic and were unable to find parking (Holiday Lights and Parade). Ended up going home. The other group had a great meal and were very happy. We love going to the Columbia but maybe after the holiday's.
This was a special occasion for me and my party of seven. We were celebrating my birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better place to go. The food was excellent, service was great and such a beautifully decorated restaurant for Christmas. We all ordered something different and everyone was so pleased with their meal, no complaints. Thank you Columbia for making my birthday special. When in St. Augustine again, the Columbia will be first on my list of places to eat.
We were told that this was a must eat place in St Augustine. This is a must avoid. Made a reservation however there is VERY limited parking. Circled the restaurant for 30 minutes and when we tried to park in the restaurants lot, the attendant was extremely rude. We spoke to the restaurant about him and the response was “yeah he is kind of a jerk.” Food was mediocre and way overpriced. There are a lot of restaurants in this town with much better service and food quality.
The food was excellent as usual. I had the Mahi in lieu of Filet that I would normally get there. The place allowed us to be seated earlier than reservations, this was nice. But the place is large and a lot of large parties so our waitress had to care for a table beside of us with maybe 30 to 40 people. We did not get good service. Apparently only one bartender, it took for ever to get our drinks. She had warned us that the drinks and bread would take a while. So when our meal came we ordered a second round of drinks to be ahead of the game, and still did not get those until we had finished dinner. This is my first time with being unhappy with their service. This was a Friday night, 12/1 but I had been there on Fridays before but not during the light tours.
Another wonderful meal at the Columbian. We had a large party and the waiter did an excellent job of taking care of everybody. Probably some of the best sangria available. Cuban bread and butter is always delicious. We had a variety of different types of entrées and everybody love their meal. Can’t wait to go back.
