Columbia Restaurant - St. Augustine Ratings and Reviews
The table side 1905 salad is a must have when you visit. I had the Filet Steak Salteado and my companion had the Grouper Jimmy. Both meals were cooked to perfection and the portions were large. We ended our meal with Flan and I must admit, I have not had better flan anywhere.
I've been coming here for years. One of my favorites. Any one who comes i. Town i bring them here for the signature salads and cuban sandwiches. Never disappointed only one time with service, but you always have that one time, and one waiter that is having a off day. I suggest this as a place to eat while in town.
Ordered the Bambino at the Columbia in Clearwater and the food was excellent. Best steak I have ever eaten. Ordered the same in St Augustine in the dish was terrible. Very disappointed in my meal. The service was good and the ambiance was nice, but I was really disappointed that the dish was not the same.
The good was good, but our server Rebecca was having a horrible shift and was letting all the tables know about it. We watched one table leave after an hour without their food, heard her apologizing to another table about her mistake with their order, then forgot to ring in our appetizer. After the other tables left and we had the section to ourselves, our server and a hostess stood right behind us gossiping for about ten minutes. It felt like we were eating in a break room. The food was delicous, but the service was so unprofessional it ruined the experience.
The restaurant did not have our reservation, was understaffed, and the wait for food and service was unacceptably long. They did not live up to expectations nor did they try nd make up for lackluster service or food. Highly disappointing, especially for such an expensive dining experience!
Had a reservation for 7. Most of our party made it and was able to park. The other part (3 of us) sat in traffic and were unable to find parking (Holiday Lights and Parade). Ended up going home. The other group had a great meal and were very happy. We love going to the Columbia but maybe after the holiday's.
This was a special occasion for me and my party of seven. We were celebrating my birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better place to go. The food was excellent, service was great and such a beautifully decorated restaurant for Christmas. We all ordered something different and everyone was so pleased with their meal, no complaints. Thank you Columbia for making my birthday special. When in St. Augustine again, the Columbia will be first on my list of places to eat.
We were told that this was a must eat place in St Augustine. This is a must avoid. Made a reservation however there is VERY limited parking. Circled the restaurant for 30 minutes and when we tried to park in the restaurants lot, the attendant was extremely rude. We spoke to the restaurant about him and the response was “yeah he is kind of a jerk.” Food was mediocre and way overpriced. There are a lot of restaurants in this town with much better service and food quality.
The food was excellent as usual. I had the Mahi in lieu of Filet that I would normally get there. The place allowed us to be seated earlier than reservations, this was nice. But the place is large and a lot of large parties so our waitress had to care for a table beside of us with maybe 30 to 40 people. We did not get good service. Apparently only one bartender, it took for ever to get our drinks. She had warned us that the drinks and bread would take a while. So when our meal came we ordered a second round of drinks to be ahead of the game, and still did not get those until we had finished dinner. This is my first time with being unhappy with their service. This was a Friday night, 12/1 but I had been there on Fridays before but not during the light tours.
Another wonderful meal at the Columbian. We had a large party and the waiter did an excellent job of taking care of everybody. Probably some of the best sangria available. Cuban bread and butter is always delicious. We had a variety of different types of entrées and everybody love their meal. Can’t wait to go back.
Had family in from out of town and wanted to enjoy a nice dinner before enjoying the Night of Lights festivities. The Columbia restaurant was perfect! One member of our party is a pescetarian and he was able to find a great selection to choose from. We enjoyed the tableside Sangria and their famous 1905 salad before our entrees arrived. And don't forget about the fresh baked Cuban bread - absolutely incredible! For whatever reason you might be in St. Augustine, make sure to plan a meal at the Columbia!
This time we made reservations for the Colombian, thru open table and several times thru restaurant directly, thinking maybe we could be seated on time. We have never been seated per our reservation. We arrived at 6:35 and was rudely told by the girl taking the reservations we would be seated at 6:45. After now 45 minutes of not being seated we ask someone about why they take reservations if they can’t seat on time. This person went and got us a table within next 5 minutes. We love the food and always get the 1905 salad and love the restaurant. After this last experience not sure if we will go back to this location. It seems to me if someone takes time to make the reservation the restaurant would honor that time or otherwise not post as it being available. And among all make sure your greeter is not rude! We saw her being rude to many! We saw a lot of people walk out too.
I have dined at several of the Columbia restaurants many times. This visit to St Augustine was probably my worst experience. The primary problem was food delivery. They brought the 1905 salad and 2 of 3 entrees at the same time. The 3rd entrée was 20 minutes later. I'm sure I will be back to Columbia because I enjoy the food, but expect much better service.
I made reservations to accommodate 8 people for an anniversary lunch on Thanksgiving weekend. The day of the lunch I was contacted by the restaurant to confirm and was informed me for anniversary occasions they give a complimentary dessert. We were seated immediately after arriving for our reservation. We then waited 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us then to be told they were short staffed because servers had called out and we were seated in a section with no assigned server. The first server greeted us, introduced herself and the person she was training, then said she would get us bread and water. ( Mind you this was 10 minutes after we were seated and we were ready to order) A few minutes after the first server left, a second server then came to us and introduced herself and asked to take our drink order. We explained someone had already come to our table, she then went to speak to the first server and came back to say that she was going to take our table. She then took our drink and appetizer orders, left for a few minutes and returned with bread, butter and water. She took our entrée order, came back with our drinks and after 45 minutes of being seated our appetizers came. The entrees came, my order was incorrect so it had to be sent back (ordered shrimp and got chicken which the server did take responsibility for putting it in wrong). The server was attentive and courteous throughout the rest of the meal and when she was clearing the table she said my meal was taken off due because it was incorrect, however when the check arrived it was still there. We did not get the anniversary dessert but by this time we just wanted to leave. I approached who I assumed was a manager to tell him about our experience and he stated he had just walked in to the business and was sorry. We eat at The Columbia frequently and I know this is not the norm, but what I found most frustrating was the excuses given for every mishap and the worst being from the manager.
We had a reservation and we were off to a good start because our table was ready upon arrival... However it quickly went downhill from there. For a Saturday night of a holiday weekend, the restaurant did not seem properly staffed. All though our server greeted us immediately it took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive and nearly 30 minutes for water. The food was sub par and a bit over priced for the quality. Our table kept piling up with empty glasses and dishes because there wasnt a busser in sight. We ordered wine before the entrees
came and it didn't show up until we were finished eating. Our poor server was overwhelmed with bussing, food running, water refills, drink orders, etc. A busser and/or food runner for a restaurant as big as this is badly needed, especially when your entrees are costing you $30.
