Columbia's Original "1905" Salad
The Columbia's legendary salad tossed at your table. Crisp Iceberg lettuce with julienne of baked ham, natural Swiss cheese, tomato, olives, grated Romano cheese and our famous garlic dressing. The award-winning salad won honors from USA Today as "One of 10 Great Places to Make a Meal Out of a Salad." The signature salad, named for the year the restaurant was founded in Tampa's Latin district of Ybor City, was inspired by immigrants to the Cigar City: Romano cheese from the Sicilians and the famous garlic dressing used by Cubans to marinate fresh roast pork, plus Florida tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, julienne of baked ham and Swiss cheese. In the 40s, Tony Noriega, who ventured to New York City during the Depression to find work, added a "secret ingredient," Worcestershire sauce, to the recipe.
Cuban Black Bean Soup
Frijoles Negros prepared exactly as our grandmother, Carmen Hernandez, did. Served over a bed of white rice and topped with diced raw Spanish onions. 100% vegetarian.
Always good food. Service can be a little aggressive. Hosts could be a little nicer.
Great food and great service! Columbia Restaurant never disappoints.
We have always love the Columbia. Definitely some of the best Spanish food around. Unfortunately the service which is usually pretty good was not good at all. Long wait for order to be taken. Service slow and not so good.
waited over 30 minutes for our RESERVED table. mojitos had zero alcohol. $10 a piece. sent it back. 1906 beer very good. black beans and rice delicious. server very friendly and fixed anything not liked. unfortunately we will not be back
Horrible service after 30 min of our order our server came to ask us what we ordered. We also ordered a pitcher of mojitos which wasn’t made correctly when explaining it to bar tender he said just buy it by the glass. No apologies just argued with me! We go there frequently for the mojitos. We will by pass Sarasota and go to the restaurant in Tampa as Sarasota has poor management!!
Server was outstanding
Both meals were big plates of yellow rice with token amounts of either fish one and vegetables on the other. Excluding wine, the bill was $60....for rice. The noise was unreal.
We visited Columbia a few times; and every time we had a good service, good food and nice atmosphere; one little negative detail - my excellent shrimp 'Gonzales' was garnished with some green stiff sticks - ends of asparagus; BUT as soon as I notified our server Lexie she replaced it with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes which were great. The rooms are clean, festive and spacious; I love your tile works everywhere - felt like being in Porto, Portugal which I love. My kids from CA make your restaurant a 'must' on their visits. We all very happy you survived the pandemic and continue your great service -
It was very good and the Sangria was awesome. I didn’t get what I ordered and was disappointed in that and server did not come back to check in a reasonable time to reorder so I ate it anyway. Will be very careful when ordering next time. Overall a wonderful place to eat.
Fantastic food here! Great energy and attention.
The food was absolutely delicious. Service was great
We mage reservations before we came which made a big difference. Right after we were seated a walk—up line of folks developed and continued to grow even as we ate. We were immediately seated, but took a few minutes before our waitress appeared. She made excellent suggestions and even got the cooks to add some special “spice”to my entree which was magnificent! Will come back next time we are in town!!
Way too crowded for my liking and also the service was terrible. The waitress kept forgetting about us and the food was just ok. I expected much more.
Columbia's is one of our favorite stops when we visit. Always great.
We have not been to the Sarasota location in the last 4 years. The outside dining was beautiful in May with so many flowers in bloom outside the restaurant. Our table was next to a palm and we had an umbrella table so it felt like a garden setting. Two of us ordered the Pork a la Cubana, one ordered La Completa Cubana and I ordered the Boliche "Criolo" (beef w/Chorizo). All the meals were delicious and plentiful. Our server, Richard, was personable, efficient and very polite. We ordered 2 blueberry cheesecakes and the Churros for desserts. I really liked the 3 sauces that came with the Churros: chocolate, caramel and guava-all very good! We will be going to the Columbia in Sand Key, FL next week and know we will be just as happy with our meals there. Columbia Restaurant has never disappointed us in 25 years.
the restaurant ran out of beer (ultra on tap)... Also the food is subpar, very touristy. do not recommend. And service at the bar is absolutely horrible. Bartender spend their time complaining about their jobs and providing zero service.
The 1905 Salad is always our go to for lunch!
Terrible service, I would never return. If you get Jack just ask for a new server.
Delicious great ambiance. Love the salad. I had the half Cuban sandwich and half salad. And the mojitos are wonderful.
The service was wonderful! We were seated right away with Reservations and the food was delicious! It was perfect for our 34 year wedding anniversary.
Drinks took 20 minutes and she brought us a very incorrect drink. It was corrected and comped but still. Fried calamari was very salty to the point that it was inedible. Entres are always amazing, the salad is incredible and the pollo manchego is to die for!
Food was not nearly as good as their original location in Ybor.
Wow!! What a Great Find!! The food was nothing short of AMAZING, fresh ingredients, nothing over or under cooked, and sooooo tasty!! And I mean every dish! There were 3 of us and we loved everything we ordered! You MUST try this place! Also ask to watch the Norbert Show!!!
Great food and good service. Very happy with our experience.
The food and service were amazing! Our server, Melissa, had great recommendations and we enjoyed all of them! We will be back!
Waiter very nice, good portions of food. The waiter
lovely atmosphere, great service and delicious food. next time we will leave room for the bread pudding.
First time eating in a restaurant in 14 mo.!
Excellent sparkling white sangria ... the 1906 Salad always is a winner. Black bean soup is best in Florida.
Columbia Restaurant is always a hit. The food, service and atmosphere are outstanding. The menu is extensive, but I can’t resist the 1905 salad. The half and half combo (half salad, half of a Cuban sandwich) is a lunch favorite. I’ve had the salad with shrimp as an entree and it’s a wonderful meal completed by the hot, crunchy-crusted bread that is served to every table. Most recently, I had pollo manchego, a chicken dish served with yellow rice and fresh veggies. It was wonderful. The breaded chicken had a tangy citrus sauce and manchego cheese. The vegetable of the day was asparagus and mushrooms. My husband enjoyed a dish called “Salteado,” which looked like a stir-fry. Fortunately for me, the menus offers a smaller-sized 1905 salad. It was a great meal and I brought home plenty for lunch the next day. Two management-looking guys stopped by to ask if we were happy with our meals. They seemed genuinely interested in pleasing the diners. The servers, in my experience, have always been attentive without hovering and unfailingly courteous. The atmosphere is charming, with seating indoors and out, plus an open area that is under roof but with sliders that give you the best of all worlds. Columbia is successful and popular, and I have found it easy and convenient to make a reservation on Open Table. If you are visiting the area, Columbia should be near the top of your list of must-dos and if you are having guests from out of town, this is a great place to make a memory.
Love the 1905 martini and the 1905 salad! So glad they are mixing the sangria and the salads at table side again. The Cuban sandwiches are wonderful too. We keep coming back every time we are in town!
Fish not cooked. Waiter was a jerk! 2nd time with poor food and service. Will not return.
Vacation on Anna Maria with our grown daughter-after a year apart due to virus. She has spent time living in Spain and loved the Columbian menu. We had a number of small plates and lived trying so many different tastes. The 1905 salad continues to be favorite b
Great time, as always at the Columbia! Appreciated the outdoor table!
Glad to see the table side preparation of the 1905 salad back again. It was delicious! Right amount of everything to our taste.
I love this place. Like having a family kitchen with a wide range of choices.
You will not be disappointed. Good mixology!
We were seated at 8 for our 7:30 reservation. Food had little flavor. Overall very disappointed.
