Columbia's Original "1905" Salad
The Columbia's legendary salad tossed at your table. Crisp Iceberg lettuce with julienne of baked ham, natural Swiss cheese, tomato, olives, grated Romano cheese and our famous garlic dressing. The award-winning salad won honors from USA Today as "One of 10 Great Places to Make a Meal Out of a Salad." The signature salad, named for the year the restaurant was founded in Tampa's Latin district of Ybor City, was inspired by immigrants to the Cigar City: Romano cheese from the Sicilians and the famous garlic dressing used by Cubans to marinate fresh roast pork, plus Florida tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, julienne of baked ham and Swiss cheese. In the 40s, Tony Noriega, who ventured to New York City during the Depression to find work, added a "secret ingredient," Worcestershire sauce, to the recipe.
Cuban Black Bean Soup
Frijoles Negros prepared exactly as our grandmother, Carmen Hernandez, did. Served over a bed of white rice and topped with diced raw Spanish onions. 100% vegetarian.
Fabulous dining experience with the love of my life! Been dining here for over 40 years and it was her first time!!
Love this place. We ate on the patio. The weather was beautiful. Service was excellent. Food was amazing. Loved it all!!!
Waiter was a bit new. We had reservation for covered outdoor seating. When we arrived and ck’d in we confirmed our seating request. Another hostess led us to a table on the street with an umbrella. We asked to be seated as reservation stated. Waited another 15 min before reseating. 3 of 4 meals were good (not great).
Great food. Sat outside. Our waiter was good but very busy.
Would definitely visit this restaurant again
This restaurant offers some of the most authentic Cuban food you’re going to find in the area. The restaurant is a must if in Sarasota Saint Armands Circle . They also have a Columbia in Tampa which offers authentic dancing from the Cuban culture. Great for any special occasion business meeting or date night out.
One of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Highly recommend the Lobster Cannelloni.
Haven't been to Columbia in a few years, but it's as good as ever. A large menu with many great choices at reasonable prices. If you're in St. Armand's Circle, it the perfect spot for lunch or dinner.
Great Cuban Caribbean cuisine with many great menu choices and attentive and friendly wait staff, in a cool environment. Great place in Sarasota.
There is only one Columbia!
The service was horrible. After 27min we still didn’t even have water. The waiter wasn’t rude or nice, just aloof. The table next to us got up and left after waiting. Another table was complaining as well. It was busy but not too bad.
The salad was good but after hearing about it, I was disappointed with the portion but not a huge deal. I ordered the Grouper Jimmy and it didn’t taste like anything. Extremely bland. The asparagus was good as was my wife’s pork but didn’t look very appetizing.
I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to go there again. Not the worse I’ve been to but I do expect better service and food for the price.
Our server Vladimir was excellent! The food was outstanding! I had the ribeye steak & roasted potatoes was delicious! My wife had the shrimp & yellow rice was also great!
Terrific as always!
My wifes favorite place to go. Love the atmosphere and the food.
Great location, loved the outdoor dining, people watching. Food was acceptable but overpriced, but I expected that due to the location. Our server was very good.
The service is exceptional! We love how they make the sangria and mix the salad right at the table! This continues to be one of our favorite restaurants!
Our server was amazing, attentive and very helpful! The food and experience was wonderful.
We would highly recommend to anyone considering, and am glad we made reservations as for people who did not there was a long wait.
Our server was not very friendly, and he seemed as if we were annoying him when we asked a few questions. Maybe he was overworked or he was having a bad day! However, it does affect a diners experience when the server is not friendly.
The food was mediocre. I wanted my friend to be impressed and he was not ...
Excellent everything! Love this restaurant!
Went with the Jimmy which is the Grouper dinner based upon the recommendation of the waiter. It was good but was expecting it to be better
Jacinto was excellent! He was very knowledgeable of the menu. He also was very attentive even though it was very busy!
We had a wonderful time the food was amazing and the server was outstanding. Looking forward to returning. I recommend this restaurant to everyone .
Overall gone way downhill. Seafood was not fresh. Service very slow. Our waiter was ok but will not return. We always bring guests there. But no more. We keep making excuses why.
Nice to have a Cuban choice of the many many restaurants in the U S.
Love their 1905 Salad! Great food & always good service.
what differentiates this Columbia from others is the personal care from servers and food preparers. it was excellent
Food was prompt, very tasty, and more than sufficient portions.
We have dined here multiple times and it has been very good. This time the food was not up to par and we were rushed to order our meal and waited 20 minutes to receive our drink. In fairness the restaurant was very busy the night we visited but we were disappointed.
Amazing ... frequently visited
Sat our party out of restaurant area right by road with cars up against us - horrible table and bad atmosphere - ruined the whole meal. No point booking to be told that was our outside table. Be very careful to ask for terrace as ‘outside’ could put you in traffic instead
The check-in process seemed a bit unorganized and chaotic. We had to stand in line with people that were walk-ins despite the fact that we had a reservation. Service was good but waiter seemed overwhelmed. He was very kind and courteous.
My granddaughter was in town, she had never been to Saint Armands Circle are the Columbia restaurant. What a wonderful treat for her.
Food was OK. Not something I would return to have. We just did appetizers. I can't speak for the main dishes.
Absolutely amazing meal. We loved it!!!
You can’t go wrong. The place to dine in Sarasota.
Great food and service.
Always fabulous dining experience!!! The service is extraordinary and the food is superb! So happy they are making the 1905 salad at the table again😀
This is always a wonderful place to stop on Saint Armand Circle. We have been coming to this restaurant for years and will always come back for more. The staff is so friendly and very helpful. No matter if you live here or visiting you need to put this on your must places to stop for a wonderful meal.
Our second time during our vacation and was very good both times.
Service- excellent, waiter outstanding. Drinks weak. I don’t think there was any alcohol in my pitcher of Mojito and needed more mint. I had the grouper Jimmy. It was excellent and reasonably priced. Overall a very good experience.
