   We sat at the bar for lunch - our bartender was very good and made us delicious drinks: mojito and 1905 Sazerac. I enjoyed reading the history of the restaurant in the menu. We ordered the Palomilla Steak Sandwich, a cup of gazpacho and the Mahi Mahi Cubana with no green peppers. My companion liked the steak sandwich and would order again. Unfortunately the gazpacho was not delivered either before or with the sandwiches (so was canceled) and the green peppers were still on the Cubana. The Mahi Mahi was overcooked and inedible so I didn’t eat it. The bread on top of the sandwich was hard and crusty-not my favorite but others may like that. The bread under the fish was softer so I used that to make a little sandwich of the toppings: Swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions, and that was what I ate out of the $18 meal. I would possibly try this restaurant again and order something different, but I fear that it rides on its historic reputation, mostly relies on tourist business, is therefore not too worried about repeat customers, and other menu items may reflect that. Hopefully I’m wrong and just caught them on a bad day.

   Server was too busy to make the 1905 salad properly. Or take our order. Sat at the table for 5-10 minutes before acknowledged. However, was rushing passed my table the entire time. Salad was just par. The server (And I do know the name) rushed the salad presentation. Didn’t use gloves that are there too be used. He did after we told him to use them. Again just too busy…. Rushing from table to table. Definitely a management problem. We had a reservation. It isn’t like they knew we weren’t going to be there. The noise level was at high volume for lunch time.

   We can not come to Sarasota and not visit Columbia. The 1905 salad is…wait for it…legendary! A cocktail, a tapas tower, the salad and the bread, you will not be disappointed!

   We were seated indoors since it was very warm outside and we requested inside. Noise level very high but restaurant was crowded and was to be expected. Waiter friendly and professional. Drinks arrived as requested and salad. But main course was served too soon Would request entree be served after finishing salad. Birthday celebration was acknowledged with a complimentary dessert.    Always an enjoyable dining experience especially with friends. It gets better every time we go. Presentation can’t be beat especially when the server prepares the 1905 salad at the table, a work of art. Iced tea glass never got below half full for long. Looking forward to our next visit. The entire staff make you feel welcomed and provide a unique dining experience every time.

   The Columbia has been a favorite for years, so when my friends were coming in town for a girls' trip, I wanted to be sure they enjoyed the experience too! They loved it! As always, The Columbia did not disappoint. Since we were all celebrating a milestone birthday, we enjoyed complimentary flan. Thank you!

   Fantastic food and not overpriced for the quality and quantity! Our server was Lissa! She was so pleasant and helpful! We were there for our friends birthday. We enjoyed the evening! Our only complaint is that the table was too small for all the plates and glassware! But that was a minor inconvenience!
