Columbia Restaurant - SandKey Ratings and Reviews
This was our 2nd visit to a Columbia restaurant, the 1st being in Ybor City several years ago. We were extremely pleased with the family friendly environment and cultural feel of the restaurant, and the food was excellent! Our server was gracious, engaged, and most helpful. We were very pleased with the server's recommendation of the Croquetas de Langosta as an appetizer, followed by entrees of Veal “La Reina Isabella” and Palomilla. All were excellently prepared and pleasing to the tongue. The wine and mixed drink recommendations were also a great match to our food. The food service was well-timed, with adequate spacing to enjoy the bread, appetizers, and main course. I highly recommend Columbia Restaurants. It is not a chain, but a family-owned, passionately run, small group of wonderful restaurants!
We go there often, perhaps once a week when we are here for the winter (3 to 5 months). Good food which is hard to find in Florida with all the fried/breaded seafood restaurants.
They make a great mojito at the bar, not as good when it is table service for some reason, but still good. They have their own line of wines -- inexpensive and good.
Usually their servers are quite good. This occasion, he was inexperienced and we often had times he went away to get something (a soup spoon, a glass of wine, others) and didn't return for a surprisingly long time considering they weren't so busy.
Be sure when reserving through OpenTable to ask the maitre d' to confirm the OpenTable reservation. I've been surprised several times when the next day the status was "Cancelled."
They get quite busy in February and March at the height of the tourist season so be sure to make a reservation.
The valet gets backed up when they are busy so just allow an extra 5 minutes for that before your res.
Despite the above cautions, we heartily recommend Columbia as one of the best restaurants in this area.
This was our third time dining here, but our first for dinner. We had a party of 8 and had reservations for 6:15PM. We were seated on time and had a wonderful experience. Everyone loved their meal and the salad was as good as always. Can not wait for my next visit to the area for another great meal.
I was skeptical about Columbia. It’s a ‘chain’, probably a tourist trap, the food is probably not that great. Wow, was I wrong. The authentic tapas and tableside sangria prep started things off right. The attentive and professional service was exceptional. We all enjoyed our mains; he grouper was perfectly prepared and the paella was the best I’ve ever had.
I would highly recommend Columbia for a special night out.
Our server was fantastic. She offered suggestions, made us laugh and brought out our kids’ food right away... without asking! Request the main dining room. We were originally seated in the front room, which has zero ambiance. Once we were moved we really felt our experience was greatly improved. Kids loved the food too!
Our go-to place for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversary. Or we'll just go whenever we want to dress up or get Spanish food or one of the best steaks anywhere "Filet Mignon Chacho." Very nice atmosphere, excellent food. The only drawback is limited parking. Because its on the beach, parking is at a premium and you can't park on the street. I recommend valet parking!
The food is always amazing. The service was great. They made an error with our Christmas day reservation. The staff was very accommodating but the manger was AWFUL. Rude from the second he walked up to the hostess stand. I will continue to go back because everything else is wonderful
We were so disappointed. This restaurant had been highly recommended by friends. We love the Columbia, Ybor and expected the Columbia, Sand Key to be comparable. It was not. The waiter, Roberto A never introduced himself. He spilled the sangria over the glass top when putting it on the table soaking the bar napkin under it and I had to ask that the table be cleaned and napkin replaced. The snapper a la rusha was overly covered with black pepper which smothered the taste of the fish. The filet was tender but not cooked as ordered. I doubt I would make the drive again and would recommend to others with strong reservations.
We had dinner reservations, made a month before, for the first time on Christmas Day as we have done for Thanksgiving many times. We usually have good service and good seating...not so much this time.
It was a very rushed and chaotic experience.
First, we had to wait for close to a half hour in a lobby with people literally waiting in line to just check in at the hostess/host area. The older man, presumably a manager, at the check in desk seemed frustrated with the employees. People were packed in the lobby like cattle.
We were seated at a table where the servers were constantly rushing by. Our server had an abrupt and rushed manner as he greeted us and then basically disappeared after he took our food order. One food order was wrong and even after pointing this out to the second server who prepared the tableside salad, the food order was never corrected. So the person affected just gave up and ate what they served him.
The server finally came back but all he wanted to do was to get us to box up our food and leave in order to free up his table for the next party.
They were trying to pack in as many people as they could, telling walk ins (without reservations) that it would only be a 25 minute wait. We saw people who were told that still waiting in the lobby when we left, nearly an hour and a half later.
The place was a zoo, not a relaxing experience at all. We were very disappointed this time and we probably won’t return anytime soon, especially for a holiday, if this is the way they will continue to run this restaurant.
Yes, the food was good but the poor service makes it not worthwhile for us to pay the expensive bill.
Unfortunately not a good experience this is our 4th Christmas going but unsure about next year. Had their special and it was very bland. My husband received gravy and I did not. Has to ask twice to get it. Had to ask for wine 3 Times, received one glass each but charged for 4. Service was awful and food was bland. Definitely not what we have experienced in the past. Very expensive meal to be so disappointed
reservations were on time and what I asked for. Service was quick and waiter came back numerous times to make sure all was ok. This is the third christmas we ate there and food was awesome as usual. We visit numerous times during the year and my only wish is that mashed potatoes were available all the time.
Waterside dining on Intracoastal waterway; complementary valet; attractive decor in Spanish theme; excellent Sangria prepared tableside; apps of calimare, langostos, and pork empanadas were delicious; hearts of palm salad was huge and very tasty; mains of paella Valenciana and the roast pork were good. Next time we will stick to the small plates and tapas.
A definite return visit in order.
