Colombini Italian Cafe & Bistro - Nob Hill Hotel Ratings and Reviews
I think we caught them on an off night. There was only one server, so service was slow. We had multiple bugs end up in our water and wine. The salad and appetizer we ordered were pretty good, but the lasagna came out cold in the middle. We sent it back and they chose to make a new order for us rather than heating it up, which was nice, but the second attempt was still cold in the middle. We didn't try it a third time. The edges that were hot were very good though. So I can see the potential here.
We were in town for a conference and stayed at a nearby AirBNB. Since we did not feel like walking around forever, we first chose Colombini for its proximity and rating. We were not disappointed. We ended up eating dinner three times during the week. The food is authentic, simply good. Best authentic lasagna Bolognese (other than mom's). The salads are simple and fresh, pasta impeccable and a great charred romaine appetizer. Service is not rushed, don't expect instant service, but it is not slow either, this is a small operation with a small kitchen but they do deliver. The last of the three visits we had a table of eight and they still made sure to serve the small tables ahead of us as much as possible instead of blocking them forever with our large order. On the first visit, we ordered three bottles of the same Nero d'Avola and I had noticed the second one was very slightly corked, but since it had already been poured, we drank on. Never told anyone about it. The next visit, we tried to order the same wine, but we were informed they had removed it as they hit other bottles that were corked. It says a lot about making sure quality is there instead of places were they dump their bad stuff hoping you won't know better or hesitate to complain. This restaurant is going on my permanent list! Only thing is I would have liked a couple more options with upper end wines, for special occasions or splurging.
We thought the food was very good and will be coming back. Service was fine, prices were fair, and the setting was intimate. It's a small place and a little cramped, but it is in our neighborhood and the menu had plenty of interesting items beyond what we sampled in our first visit. So, we will be back.
It's my second time at Colombini. Disappointed this time as the dish I was looking forward to was not available. Fortunately the dishes we ordered were good. Ambiance is the best. The lady who served us even accommodated our request for Brazilian music. Great place for a girls night out. I will go back there again.
We went here for Mother's Day dinner on a whim and were so pleased. It is a small, charming space with authentic Italian food. The service, food and experience were great. It has a little bit of a "hole in the wall" feel, but all 7 of us walked away singing their praises.
Great Italian food. We split the grilled heart of romain salad & had penne alla calabres (sausage, spinach, mushroom, red wine, pomodoro) & pork tenderloin scallopini. Both portions were plentiful. Our server was very nice and attentive. Located in The Nob Hill hotel. Small but quaint restaurant. We walked there because parking is not easy in this area.
Although the food was fair, the reason I am giving this restaurant a poor review is due to customer service. My partner and I went to Colombini using a Groupon voucher. Upon paying for our meal, the owner was having difficulty scanning the barcode from my phone. He then tried to manually key it in, but it errorred out. Instead of copying my voucher number and attempting to redeem it later, he insisted that I needed to take this up with Groupon. He charged me full-price, which I paid. I later called Groupon, who took care of the issue. However, the owner could have easily done that as well. I consider it poor service for the owner to absolve himself the responsibility of following up with Groupon and have the customer do all the work.
My favorite Italian hideaway in the city. Located adjacent to the Nob Hill Hotel, this cozy retreat offers authentic Italian dishes, great wine selection, and a long-time waitress who provides excellence service. Call ahead or book a reservation online to ensure there's room - this place is tiny!
Good traditional italian cuisine, the owner is direct and doesn't spend much time on polite talk, but we like his frank way of being.
They were out of pizza the time we went there but all pastas we had were really good. Antipasti too. Wine too.
The atmosphere is calm and kind of charming.
Good food, for a reasonable price. It's not the fanciest stylish restaurant but we were very happy with our evening.
Place was smaller then expected regardless, the setting was wonderful. Food was fantastic along with the pricing. Great place for a small get together or a date. You'll occasionally overhear other conversations around you but not enough to have to talk over one another. Overall experience was just fantastic.
Next to a hotel so you get some tourists. Restaurant waiter/possible owner made us feel a bit uncomfortable (whenever he approached us he would turn to ask my White friend if we needed anything, not the both of us; he almost always asked me to repeat things). pretty awkward dining experience.
The food here is outstanding as is the small dining ambiance. This is real Italian cuisine that you love with hints of creativity that is not in your mom's kitchen and yet you don't have to be a XGenner to try and figure out if the creation is Italian or not like so many of the new trendy "Italian" places. This is a place to take your time and enjoy who you are with.
