We went a couple of weeks ago and had a so-so evening and I put this in a review. The owner called and asked us to give them another chance. I’m glad we did. We had a lovely dinner and wonderful service. I guess everyone can have a bad evening, even a restaurant. Thank you Jennifer. We will definitely be back.
We confirmed with restaurant this wAs 20th anniversary. We’ve been here before, but not a good experience this time. No mention from staff, owner never came around, only talked to regulars. Service wAs so, so. Sorry, probably won’t be back.
Always enjoy the food, service and experience...
Enjoyed our dinner . Shrimp and scallops risotto ($28) was really delicious. As was the linguine Alla pescatore ($26). Jennifer was friendly and efficient even if she was so busy with multiple tables. My lemon drop ($12) was a good starter lol
Knew it as soon as we walked in, we had been here once before, for a going away cocktail party, but did not recall the name. From the name, Colleary's, (me thinking that's Irish) you would not suspect that the food is Italian, and very good Italian at that. There are a few good Italian restaurants in the area, including our fav. In our family the test of a good Italian place is the lasagna, and if they have Osso Bucco and is it lamb or veal. Well lets just say, Passed the Test, with flying colors. I had the chicken risotto that was cooked perfectly. I make this myself, but never seem to be able to cook the rice correctly, so I was a little surprised when it had a bit of tomoato sauce . We ordered an Osso Bucco (veal) for "the table" and we all dug in. I started with the stuffed mushrooms, lightly topped baby bellas with very finely ground hot sausage and a delicate buerre blanc. Cesar Salad was nice and refreshing, crisp lettuce and just the right touches of garlic and parm in the dressing. The other pasta dishes that our guests had were very, very good. Not your grandmother's spaghetti and meatballs. Really nice variety and something for everyone. The birthday boy got dessert, complementary, which he graciously shared (there was quite enough), a decadent chocolate fudge cake, very dense, thick layers of cake and fudge and ganache, with a drizzle of caramel and bittersweet chocolate sauces. Remember the owner is of Rockwell's fame. Definately going back. In fact, Colleary's may very well be the go to spot. We're luck in the City of Orange to have some amazing restaurants. Glad we stumbled upon this one.
We all enjoyed our selections. Good food, though high noise level.
Colleary's meals are always delicious and their mimosas are the best I've ever tasted!! Their Ramos Gin Fizz - AMAZING!
This visit was so different from the last. Food was wonderful and the service was outstanding. Made a great impression with my friends who had never been.
Great food.... great service
Colleary’s is a neighborhood gem that we found while running errands one weekend and had a lovely brunch (eggs Benedict were delicious). We liked it so much we came back again for dinner the following week (cioppino and crème brûlée - both very authentic - were delectable). They also have prix fixe dinner menus for early birds (3-5:30pm).
Great food and very reasonable. The different Egg Benedicts are fabulous!
Wonderful little spot where everyone from the servers, to the bartender, to the owners (who are always there) are so nice. Good food, nice bar, good vibes.
It was unfortunate that we hit them on an off night. Our bacon wrapped dates was burnt black, one of our entrees came at the end of the meal, and the creme brulee was curdled and chunky and the caramelized sugar was strangely chewy, not crunchy. It was very odd since my only other time there the service and the food was great. I was disappointed because I took my foodie friends and they were not impressed. They took the one dessert off the bill but that was because the entree was so late. It was a bummer. I will be back since I do like the food.
Close to home, great with friends and family and kids. We always feel welcome and love the unique menu items!
This may be one of those things where you read so many good things about a place you just have to be disappointed. Kind of an odd start...we arrived, gave our name, party of 8 and the host brought us to two tables. One with 6 chairs and one with 8. She said, pick the one you like. I though, well, only one has 8 chairs...so we took that one.
Our waiter greeted us and asked if we wanted anything. Since there were eight of us, I though some appetizers would be a good start. So, I asked. He said, we don't have any appetizers but you could get some pancakes. Pancakes? Uh, ok, as an appetizer? Well, you'll never guess, we passed.
Everyone found their choice, ordered and waited. Maybe because there were 8 us it took longer but we were by ourselves for a while. Would have been nice to see the waiter a bit more often.
But, eventually the food showed up. It was good, nothing extraordinary but good enough to match the prices.
Since they didn't have any appetizers, we didn't ask about dessert. Instead, we drove across the street to the mall and found a few places to grab some ice cream and some Filipino desserts. That was a good choice.
So, I'd suggest trying this place for breakfast and maybe leave the lunch to another place. Enjoy!
The food at Colleary's is always delicious; the service extraordinary, and the cocktails are perfect!
Great service. Food needs to be delivered hotter. Food was warm
Great menu selection and our service was excellent. Our overall experience was excellent.
Date night. We were seated quickly with our opentable reservation. Drinks and bread with a great red bell pepper dipping sauce were provide quickly. Nice server, super sweet, very helpful with our food questions, took our order and the food came out timed nicely between courses, no rush. The food was really good and we split a dessert that was fantastic. We are already planning a return trip with friends.
Really solid local restaurant. We were looking for a place to go for dinner with our son who is attending college nearby. This place is terrific. My wife had the fish special, it was Mahi-Mahi with scallops, very well cooked and flavorful. Our son has the lobster ravioli, rich and also full of flavor. I had the linguine with clams, shrimp and mussels. Cooked well, the pasta was very good - the flavors were not intense but OK. The wine by the glass selection was good and we will definitely be back when in the area.
The wait staff was really nice & they were accommodating to our party of 11! The food was ok...flatbreads & eggs were over cooked and most dishes were not a great value for the price. One redeeming item was the lemon ricotta pancake, delicious!
I made reservations for my birthday brunch. I was incredibly satisfied with the communication up until then. Thank you for making my birthday so much fun. Bottomless mimosas are a must. Great customer service! Will recommend to others and will be back again!
Enjoyed our Valentines 4-Course meal! Always a great place to dine!
We made reservation for Valentine’s Day. Found our after the fact that there was an over-priced fixed menu. The Charcuterie was skimpy to say the least. 2 of the 6 entree choices included scallops & they ran out of scallops & our reservation was only at 7 pm. Very disappointing evening. We will not return.
excellent service, the waitress did a 200% service for us
The Sunday brunch time is great as the food is consistently good and the portions and prices are in line with each other. I like some of the interior upgrades and will more than likely be back at this time. Only one drawback is that they close at 2pm.
This establishment was recommended by our VRBO host in December. Having tired of our usual Orange/Tustin dining options, we thought we'd give it a try. We found the food to be tasty, the portions right-sized, and the waitstaff extremely friendly and accommodating. Maybe the risotto could have been cooked a little more, and the Osso Buco prepared a little differently, but when asked, all diners said they'd go there again. I think that says it all, don't you?
This was a fun neighborhood spot, very good service. The people that were there were definitely local, and they chatted amongst themselves, which we loved. The food was good and obviously very fresh. I would love to go back for brunch
What a fantastic restaurant. My husband and I ate breakfast and cannot wait to go back to try their dinners. The egg benecict is made to perfection!
We enjoyed our dinner, lasagna, chicken saltimbacco, (special of the day) and prime rib. This was my second visit and will return again. Made room for dessert and ordered tiramisu and chocolate cake, grateful we did.
I had the crab cakes Eggs Benedict with your potatoes. For me, the food was too greasy. There was too much excess oil on the potatoes. The crab cakes had some kind of coating what was too greasy even after I cut off the coating. I will be back; I'll just be sure to order something else.
Perfect breakfast and they let us linger over coffee and visit.
try it and enjoy the great food and friendly service
We had a party of 7 and our server, Maureen, did a wonderful job with us. The flavors of the food was fabulous.it was our first time to visit and we will return.
We come here quite often. The food and service are outstanding. I had the cioppino and my wife had the salmon. Other meals we’ve had here were the osso buco, pasta carbonara, and the tournedos of beef (though I think that has been dropped from the regular menu). All were delicious.
We ate at Colleary's for the first time on Thanksgiving weekend and the server said it was less busy than usual. It was nice to be able to have a conversation without the din in many local restaurants. The food was excellent and the service was quick friendly and efficient. The Lamb Burger and Shrimp and Scallop Risotto were delicious. They were more than willing to alter the entrees for our picky kids. The kids rated it a 10 out of 10 and they are a tough croud. We are going back next week to introduce some foodie friends to this local gem!
We have been there numerous times and have always enjoyed great service and food but this time it was different. We made reservations a week in advance and asked to be put in a room where the noise was minimal as my 93 yr old mother even with hearing aids has difficulty hearing the table discussion. The table we were to sit at was not ready and we waited 10 mins while they got a bus person to clean it. We were finally seated in the room given water and sat there for another 10 minutes with no menu when they came by and asked us to move to the main dining room as the room was reserved for a party coming in 2 hours later! While we moved it ruin our entire family dinner! We were sat next to a family with small children being noisey as they will be having fun. Our food was good as usual but our annual dinner together was awful! My mother missed 90% of the conversation and just sat there staring into space as she couldn’t hear what was going on! The usually great service was terrible! Didn’t complete 2 of our orders, never brought us water and offered us 2 desserts to share among 7 people as an apology for Moving us! The chocolate cake had been refrigerated and was dry and the Tiramsu was awful! My son asked for coffee and the waitress said “oh we turned it off because we are closing” REALLY? That was the last straw!
They had an opportunity to tell us when they called to confirm the reservations about the incoming party and we could have moved our time to accommodate them! It’s a small neighborhood bistro that we have enjoyed but we were treated horribly and will never go back there!
Caollearys is wonderful. Great food great appetizers, specially the meatballs, all the time.
Service was outstanding. Food presentation was great.
Very nice local restaurant with great service.
This is a definite hidden gem. Can't wait to go again. Stick with the specials especially any seafood pasta dish
