About Coldwater Cafe & Catering
This restaurant housed in a former bank building in the heart of downtown Tipp City offers quality dining in a small-town setting. The decor is warm and welcoming and is a delight for the senses. The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere while the full bar allows patrons a relaxing stop while awaiting a fabulous meal. The inviting atmosphere encourages relaxed conversation. You may be surprised to find that a restaurant in such a small town has some rather sophisticated choices on the menu alongside your more normal fare, with entrees such as ostrich being offered. If you are looking for a decadent dessert, look no further than the butter-drenched English Tea Cake! An easy drive from all points in the Dayton area, words cannot do it justice. A visit is a must and will be the first of many.

Coldwater Cafe & Catering Ratings and Reviews
My wife says this is her new favorite restaurant, so she would likely give it a 5. I also really enjoyed it. Everything from the appetizer to the desert were on point with a creative flair. My only criticism would be that just about everything we ordered was just a little bit sweet. Each individual dish was spot on, but I’m going to try and avoid that overarching theme next time. For the record my wife thought everything was perfect and that I was crazy for uttering anything but praise, so your mileage may vary. The ambiance was nice. We particularly enjoyed the live music, which was loud enough to enjoy but not affect conversation. Our server was great. We spent about $120 with tip, for the two of us. On the expensive side around here, but fine for a nice night out given the quality. We’ll definitely be back. If you like fish, try the ruby trout. Cheers.
The restaurant was phenomenal. The food was out of this world. The service was incredible. However, there should be a better connection between open table and the restaurant because the reservation was a little over an hour pass it’s time, and that really made it a little tempting to leave...
For Valentines and man did it come through on the love category. The make you feel very welcomed (even though reservations were running an hour behind... so what... and extra glass of wine while waiting is NOT a bad thing). They even left you a rose at your table... Just a totally amazing place.
Unfortunately in spite of good food and atmosphere management of this restaurant continu to fail guests who have reservations. We had the reservation at 7:30 pm. We have to until 8:20 before table was offered and we were standing during all this time. Guest who had reservations at 7pm they waited until 8pm and some of the guests decided to leave. This is not first time happened at this location. Management continue to underestimate, cooking or service time and making their guests suffer.
Food was great! Service was great! Atmosphere was great! A table near us probably didn't have the same experience, but I assure you, it wasn't because of the service. Some people just can't be pleased. Second time at the restaurant and it was just as good if not better than before.
Valentine’s Day dinner!! Our server Stephanie was AWESOME!! They offered a special menu but we ordered from the regular menu.
All the food was prepared as ordered and was delicious. We shared a first course of Lobster Crab Cakes. The spicy corn sauce was amazing!
We both had the Brussels Sprout salad which also was very tasty. A basket of sourdough bread with honey butter accompanied the salads.
Third course was Scottish Salmon (ordered medium rare) with asparagus and Jasmine rice for my husband. I ordered the New York Strip steak (ordered medium rare) with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes.
Dessert was Chocolate Mousse cake with chocolate ganache. The cake was light and moist. Mousse and ganache YUM!!
A Winter Margherita and a glass of Pinot Noir completed the meal.
Wonderful atmosphere too!!
What a treat! We drove to Tipp City from Columbus to meet with Springfield friends and we were delighted with a country french ambiance, lively crowd but not too loud for conversation, and the food was fabulous! It was totally worth the drive and we hope to see the charming Tipp City in the daylight!
Went this time to celebrate family. An amazing time. The waitress overheard me tell my daughter to order the house salad with the dill dressing as the dressing is fabulous and I am still trying to copy it at home. At the end of the evening, the waitress gifted me with a nice quart tub of their dill dressing. The staff are just so warm and friendly at this place.
This restaurant has consistently good food served piping hot. We always have had attentive servers that know their food and beverages. Live 2 piece band play on weekends starting at 7pm for nice background music. Make sure you have reservations or you won't get a table on the weekend.
There are two sections to this restaurant and one is for the occasional visitor and the other is for the connected every day/week person or local. We have been to this restaurant numerous times and are always seated in what I call the "cheap seats". That is specifically the first set of tables that you come to. Where everybody who walks into the restaurant seating area will walk by you and your food. All of the waitress' and waiters will also walk by you because this area is the "main drag". You have to walk through here to get anywhere. Anyway, if you go and I suggest you do, make sure you don't end up in the "cheap seats". Food is very good, service is excellent and the pricing is reasonable.
Coldwater Cafe is one of those places where if you don't know its there, you may never find it. We came upon Coldwater about 3 years ago on a friend's recommendation. So glad we found out about this place. The restaurant is located in an old bank building. They have tastefully decorated the restaurant with cozy booths and plenty of tables. One unique feature is that you can actually dine in the old walk-in safe (the thick heavy door is still there).
Their menu is manageable in size and full of unique dishes. For something different, try their Red Deer main course coupled with a very nice wedge salad. The roast pork shoulder is to die for. Lots of unique appetizers to choose from. The desert offerings are plenty and all are freshly made. The bar serves some great drinks and craft beers.
We've learned that, to get a good seat, you really need to get your reservations in well ahead of time. Our last dinner on a Saturday night started at 5:30. By the time we left at 7:30, the place was packed and all of the seating was filled.
Good food and great ambiance equates to a very busy and bustling place. Do yourself a favor and make reservations to dine at the Coldwater Cafe. You'll be impressed.
The food was incredible, but the desserts are out of this world. Our server did a great job, but did not have any personality. It was my mother’s birthday and they sent Home a wonderful Tea Cake. Overall, the ambiance was awesome as there was a keyboardist playing. Highly recommend!
Stumbled on this fantastic restaurant while traveling thanks to Trip Advisor and Open Table. The cocktails were innovative, the food creative and delicious, and the service impeccable. Thankfully we travel through Dayton several times a year, we will be back to this gem! The town, Tipp City looked interesting as well, hope to have time to explore that next time.
As we were greeted by a hostess who never smiled or welcomed us in anyway, and acted as if we were imposing on her, I am still giving them 4 stars. Everything after the lack of a greeting was outstanding. The food was excellent - the Grouper special was extremely delicious - the wine list was very enjoyable. Our server was awesome - treated us very well and was there when we needed something. We will come back because of the food and the excellent service from the servers. However, you might want to train your hostesses to be pleasant.
