About Coldwater Cafe & Catering
This restaurant housed in a former bank building in the heart of downtown Tipp City offers quality dining in a small-town setting. The decor is warm and welcoming and is a delight for the senses. The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere while the full bar allows patrons a relaxing stop while awaiting a fabulous meal. The inviting atmosphere encourages relaxed conversation. You may be surprised to find that a restaurant in such a small town has some rather sophisticated choices on the menu alongside your more normal fare, with entrees such as ostrich being offered. If you are looking for a decadent dessert, look no further than the butter-drenched English Tea Cake! An easy drive from all points in the Dayton area, words cannot do it justice. A visit is a must and will be the first of many.

Coldwater Cafe & Catering Ratings and Reviews
There are two sections to this restaurant and one is for the occasional visitor and the other is for the connected every day/week person or local. We have been to this restaurant numerous times and are always seated in what I call the "cheap seats". That is specifically the first set of tables that you come to. Where everybody who walks into the restaurant seating area will walk by you and your food. All of the waitress' and waiters will also walk by you because this area is the "main drag". You have to walk through here to get anywhere. Anyway, if you go and I suggest you do, make sure you don't end up in the "cheap seats". Food is very good, service is excellent and the pricing is reasonable.
Coldwater Cafe is one of those places where if you don't know its there, you may never find it. We came upon Coldwater about 3 years ago on a friend's recommendation. So glad we found out about this place. The restaurant is located in an old bank building. They have tastefully decorated the restaurant with cozy booths and plenty of tables. One unique feature is that you can actually dine in the old walk-in safe (the thick heavy door is still there).
Their menu is manageable in size and full of unique dishes. For something different, try their Red Deer main course coupled with a very nice wedge salad. The roast pork shoulder is to die for. Lots of unique appetizers to choose from. The desert offerings are plenty and all are freshly made. The bar serves some great drinks and craft beers.
We've learned that, to get a good seat, you really need to get your reservations in well ahead of time. Our last dinner on a Saturday night started at 5:30. By the time we left at 7:30, the place was packed and all of the seating was filled.
Good food and great ambiance equates to a very busy and bustling place. Do yourself a favor and make reservations to dine at the Coldwater Cafe. You'll be impressed.
The food was incredible, but the desserts are out of this world. Our server did a great job, but did not have any personality. It was my mother’s birthday and they sent Home a wonderful Tea Cake. Overall, the ambiance was awesome as there was a keyboardist playing. Highly recommend!
Stumbled on this fantastic restaurant while traveling thanks to Trip Advisor and Open Table. The cocktails were innovative, the food creative and delicious, and the service impeccable. Thankfully we travel through Dayton several times a year, we will be back to this gem! The town, Tipp City looked interesting as well, hope to have time to explore that next time.
As we were greeted by a hostess who never smiled or welcomed us in anyway, and acted as if we were imposing on her, I am still giving them 4 stars. Everything after the lack of a greeting was outstanding. The food was excellent - the Grouper special was extremely delicious - the wine list was very enjoyable. Our server was awesome - treated us very well and was there when we needed something. We will come back because of the food and the excellent service from the servers. However, you might want to train your hostesses to be pleasant.
Coldwater Cafe provides a unique dining experience in the midst of small town America. Regardless of where you are driving from, this hidden gem provides wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and locally sourced cuisine that rivals restaurants many times their size. I recommend taking the trip to Tipp to enjoy an evening that will be special for any occasion.
Although there was a slow start to get service (we were seated and I had to ask when our table would be attended to after a 20 minute wait), once Kate waited on us (we weren't at her table) the evening was excellent. The next time we dine at Coldwater Café we will request Kate and we will request to be in the main dining area. The 'vault' is somewhat secluded and ambiance is a bit closed in.
The food is excellent. We love the sambuca cream mussels (always have this appetizer) and the acorn squash bisque was fantastic. I was disappointed that the ostrich wasn't featured on the menu as it had been the previous visits. My wife's filet was outstanding with the green peppercorn demi, but my duck breast was undercooked and not done to medium. Additionally, it needed a red wine reduction sauce and a caramelized crust would make it perfect.
Overall, once Kate picked up the fumble by her associate the evening was excellent and we will be back.
Our enjoyment of this evening was dampened by the fact that we were not seated until one hour after our reservation time. The staff blamed it on people staying too long at their tables. When I complained to the manager, he offered us free drinks and found a table. Our waitress was wonderful and the food also good, but management needs to find a way to honor reservations.
We chose to go to the Coldwater Cafe for our 31st wedding anniversary and had an excellent experience. Our server was friendly and helpful as well as efficient. Our food was outstanding -- cooked to perfection with delicious sauces and presented beautifully. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert that was provided to us for our anniversary meal; It was scrumptous --- as are many of their other desserts which we have had there for lunches. We had just attended an interesting movie and it was so nice to have a quiet, private booth where we could enjoy talking about it. We made a great choice for our anniversary dinner!
First time visiting and could not have been more impressed with the level of service and quality of food. Everything we ate was incredible and uniquely prepared. Ambiance was ideal for celebrating an anniversary and the booth offered a great deal of privacy.
