I've been for lunch midweek and always enjoyed it. Going on a Saturday was a mistake. The place was empty and the tables were not set. I honestly felt like I was imposing when requesting a table. Totally different dining experience when the place is mostly empty. I might suggest going to a bare-bones menu on the weekends, as I know it supports the Hyatt next door.
Great for a business lunch, or just meeting friends. Soups are amazing. Mussels are plum and well prepared. Hanger steaks are highly recommended. All deserts are worth the calories. Our wait staff was attentive, but not in the way. Very positive vib among the customers.
Very poor vegetarian selection. Minimal guidance on ordering. Took a long time to get food. Service was good otherwise. Crowded and cold.
Food was great. Service was very lackluster. Not one offer of a refill on coffee (we were there for about an hour). Ordered a side of a few sliced tomatoes to go with my omelette and was charged $5 for a side of avocado. When I brought it to the servers attention, he seemed annoyed. Overall just not a great experience. There are many great brunch places in the area. We will not be going back.
Avocado toast was delicious. Definitely quieter atmosphere than lunch or dinner.
French American cuisine with an upscale Euro bistro flair. Unique variety and generous portions made for a very satisfying brunch. Service was pleasant and efficient leaving plenty of time for us to make it to the Shakespeare theatre well within our planned timeframe. Definitely will return, bon appétit!
Nice French place for Sunday brunch.
We enjoyed our Sunday morning breakfast. Pastries were delicious, as were both of our entrees. Coffee was good too!
I would not recommend the fresh oysters. The pasta was very good.
Great dinner during restaurant week on a Friday night. Really loud due to other diners shrieking and yelling. But good food and service. Wasn’t crowded. Got a reservation easily.
Enjoyed our meal. The server was nice. Water refill always seemed to land on the table. One item ordered was never brought out but also never appeared on the bill. It was fine in hindsight. The old school wooden frame chairs were not the most comfortable and lacked back support. I think I would try a barstool next time.
We did like the location and the french onion soup, mussels, salmon were all delicious.
I ordered a chicken Caesar salad where it was very hard to find any chicken.
The decline of the steak salad is sad. Used to be actual pieces of steak you would cut into and large pieces of bacon. Now the “steak” looks like beef jerky and there is no bacon. I’ve probably been there 12-15 times. Not anymore though.
Always great food and service. Quick and easy for a business lunch.
Fries were not hot and the sauce was lacking in the usual garlic flavor. Beef was very good.
Steak Frites was excellent. The wait staff was superb. Friendly, unobtrusive, and attentive. Our party of Four was dining before a visit to the Chicago Theatre and slightly pressed for time. The service was quick and we had plenty of time to enjoybour meals. I will certatinly return many times.
Food was really delicious and presentation was very nice. Service was also very good. Ambiance of restaurant was nice - easy to carry on a conversation. Although meal prices seemed reasonable, the drink prices were really high.
Very quick service for a business lunch and very reasonable prices for a loop lunch spot.
I first went here three years ago, and I loved it. Each subsequent time I've been back it's gone downhill just a little. The food was just okay. I got the bacon Benedict, and it needed a lot of salt along with the potatoes, which needed catsup because they were dried out. The feel of the place was just a little depressing. None of the employees were very happy (which is usually not their faults). The paper menus were stained with food and coffee rings. I'm all for reusing, but maybe put it in a sleeve, laminate it, or put it under the glass table top? All in all, I probably won't be back. I've give it plenty of tries in the last 3 years.
French Onion Soup, Orecchiete and Short Ribs all outstanding. Ribs based on our very friendly and helpful waitress’ recommendation. Great service.
Service was horrible.
Timely service and good food.
Had a group of 10 and had a reservation. They were not accommodating at all when it came time to split the bill when we notified them in advance. Waiter took it upon himself to just have everyone divide their meals evenly across credit cards only to make it easy for himself. Pure laziness and definitely subpar service for the price. Food was underwhelming given the price. Ordered a juice cocktail that was literally 90% ice. Will not be returning.
Beef au jus was tough and unseasoned. My companion like her mussels.
Brunch before shopping. Very good service and good. We felt a little rushed and the restaurant was not full. Would have preferred a slightly more relaxed meal.
Great food, pretty quiet, and low-key. One word of caution - this restaurant should be '$$$' unless you really pick and choose inexpensive menu items.
Eating before going to Hamilton
I had the shrimp and avocado nicoise. The fingerling potatoes were raw, dressing tasteless, shrimp was spicy, which was not described as such on the menu, the egg was hard boiled and not soft boiled. The tomato and anchovy were the best part. Disappointing. Service slow for lunch.
Cochon is just a great place to join friends for lunch and a nice dinner. The french influence is such a great vibe.
Nice atmosphere, close to our hotel, good French food, friendly service.
I have eaten here before and always been happy. This time No.
the service was nonexistent. No one cared if we were there or not. the food was plopped down in front of us and that was it. I had to get up and find the waiter to get any condiments, noone ever came back to be sure we were ok or wanted anything else. etc etc etc.
Great location and food!
The noise spoiled the entire experience. There should be a barrier between the restaurant and the bar. The portions were small but the food was flavorful.
Perfect bistro fare in a sleek room. My fourth visit, friends’ first. All know France and were pleased. Salmon a bit overdone but moist & flavorful. Beef short ribs satisfying. Excellent escargot, pommes frites & dynamite roasted broccoli. Server Alex a real pro. Only complaint: very small pours on pricey wines by the glass.
Delicious food although the croquettes monsieur egg rolls were overrated. The brie was amazing and the steak we got was perfectly cooked. The halibut was ok, not too much flavor. Service was slow but I expected that from other reviews I read. Overall, it was a great meal and I'd love to visit again.
The steak we ordered was not very good. Unevenly cooked and burnt on the edges.
Really disappointed bc I really liked this place. Everything else was good. If the server would have asked how it was, we would have shared.
Bacon and duck confit omelet best omelet I’ve ever had.
Unbelievable green eggs Benedict with artichokes. Large portions. Arrived quickly and hot. Wonderfully French waiter. Reasonably priced wine list. Delightful Bloody Marys.
First, don't valet. You may have to wait about 10min before even see the valet service person-later he couldn't even recognize my car just 15ft away. However, the valet is not a service from the restaurant so my poor rating isn't reflected by the valet service.
There's 2 entrance and receptionist was only on further side. She was busying reading her book until I made an awkward notion to the other staff who had called her. It took about 3 min from entering until being recognized.
Got seated and water poured. The menu was given by the receptionist and took another 2~3 min until our waitress greeted. Note here: there's just about 4~5 tables occupied-not busy morning(9:30am).
Then took another 6~7 min until she came back to take the order-1 toast, 2 entree and an OJ.
Our 2 entree came out about 35min later! Yes, cheeseburger may take time to fully cooked but only cooking part of Croque Madame is the egg!
IF you would visit, take your time and whatever pills to keep you on mood.
So, a little note to add. You could absolutely tell they use just tap water into the french-like water bottle. Didn't even care to add anything to cover the scent and taste.
Brought the main dishes way to early. We didn’t come close to finishing our apps.
