Cobalt Restaurant and Lounge - Vero Beach Hotel and Spa Ratings and Reviews
We live near Cobalt and have dined there occasionally over the years, mostly when visiting the spa. The patio is an excellent lunch spot in season since it's on a terrace just above the beach. We have only ever dined there for lunch and only as a couple. It's a nice spot to watch and listen to the waves, hold hands, have a cold drink and forget about the world that begins 100 feet to the west. Food is good. Prices reasonable for the area especially given the beautiful spot.
We love this restaurant and have had dinner there several times. This was our first lunch there and it was excellent. I had the Cobb salad with Mahi. My wife had the flatbread which seems like a pizza with great crust! She loved her lunch. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Sitting outside as we did gave us fabulous views of the ocean and beach. It was a very nice experience.
We've eaten at Cobalt before, and decided to return. This experience was less than satisfactory. The service was extremely slow - it took 45 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. And while the presentation of our main course selections was exquisite, the flavors were far below our expectation. Everyone in our group tried to put a positive spin on it, but we were all 'underwhelmed' by our selections. There was a large group there that evening, and that might explain our less-than-satisfactory experience.
All in all it was a good experience that had a rocky start. We were acknowledged that I had a reservation, and when asking if we could be seated outside, were told that the tables needed to be bussed would we mind waiting. I said no problem, and approx 10 min later were called to be seated, only to have the other hostess having already sat someone, ahead of us. when asked if we wanted to wait for another outside table, I wasn't interested in waiting another 1/2 hr. or so for one to clear. Then, being seated inside (of which there was very little patronage at that time --1:30 pm) waited 20 minutes before we were even approached and asked what we wanted to drink. The waitress cut it close, for I was about to get up and walk out. Waitress though, after finally waiting on us, was very attentive. Food was good, but I feel the menu is very limited.
Nicely done Sunday brunch favorites for 4 foodies - the Cobalt Omelette was very delicious, though my other half and I agreed that more bacon, or a more intense bacon-y flavor, would have been good. Potatoes just right. Mimosas lovely and light. Our friends had good things to say about the shrimp and grits and the banana waffles - although he refused to share the banana waffles with her. Comp dessert for my bday - a dense chocolate concoction that was decadently just right. Lovely waterfront location, by 2 pm in February we had lost the sun on the patio and it was a bit chill with the wind, but a sweater did the trick. We would return.
Cobalt is on the beach and has a 4-6 happy hour with drinks and small plates. The full dinners are relatively small but big enough, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. There is full dinner service on the patio overlooking the ocean if its warm enough and there are fire pits outside which is great for dinner or after dinner drinks.
The only negative aspect of our meal was that the kitchen did not know how to sear tuna. After two attempts, my husband ate what was served because the tuna itself was of a very good quality. The restaurant did the right thing and did not charge us for the tuna.
Cobalt has been a favorite restaurant of mine for several years. But my birthday dinner was especially wonderful! We had a table inside over looking the patio and ocean. Our waiter, George, was attentive and very personable, but not at all intrusive. The food was especially delicious. I think Cobalt has a relatively new chef. Amazing! The clam chowder was delicious. My entree was sesame encrusted tuna, so good. My husband had scallops on a bed of risotto which he enjoyed. For dessert, my husband had a very large piece of chocolate cake and I had vanilla ice cream on a brownie with chocolate sauce. It sounds ordinary, but the taste was extraordinary. My dessert was compliments of the restaurant. All wonderful!
We like Cobalt for those special occasions. it's classy. The cuisine is fairly sophisticated. Good seafood. Good specials. We went New Years night, and they were out of filet mignons, but they'd obtained excellent rib eyes for their carnivorous customers. I prefer their seafood dishes or the osso bucco. Good appetizers. I ordered a slice of chocolate cake for the table (party of four). It was sinfully rich, heavy and moist. Reservations suggested on weekends and special holidays.
A beautiful place with a creative chef. We sat outside in a table with an umbrella overlooking the ocean. Food and drinks were excellent. I had pineapple mint lemonade. The chef made an interesting dish for me as I am a vegan which was wonderful. It would have been nice to have crackers or bread made without eggs to go with my vegetable bowl, as I missed that. The only negative about lunch was that our waiter left us unattended for too much time to chat and should have asked us if we wanted dessert or coffee before bringing us a check. We did and he had to revise it. We had a very leisurely lunch.
The hostess was excellent.
We had high expectations as it was suggested by a FL friend. We had 8:15 pm Christmas eve reservations for 5. Our server was pleasant but VERY under trained and not at all polished in describing the menu or making suggestions. Slow with water. Slow in attentiveness. Everyone seemed exhausted after undoubtably a very busy day but is should not be as palpable as it was. The Music in the lounge was terrible. Loud. And even our 20 something aged kids turned up their noses. So needless to say our expectations were not met, disappointing actually considering how beautiful the hotel is. Fire pits out side were inviting. Thank you. Diana from Wisconsin.
Great ambiance and great service. The food was above average but the portions were very small. I understand portion sizes have become too large, I normally take home half of my dinner. At cobalt I ate the appetizer, dinner, and dessert. Then I went home and had a snack.
The atmosphere, food, service, and drinks were well-worth the hour drive to get to Cobalt. Our server was Ashley and she was wonderful, recommended many good things, and let us take our time and enjoy the evening. The food was outstanding. I had the Mahi and my husband had the Hanger Steak, both cooked to perfection. The cocktails and dessert were delicious. Our entire evening was great from start to finish.
We have chosen Cobalt on several different occasions and we have never been disappointed. The large windows offer a nice view of outside dining and the ocean. Our server was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend the shrimp and homemade grits. They were outstanding. The grilled Mahi over mushroom couscous was done to perfection as was the sea bass my husband ordered. A delightful evening.
