Food was awful. There was one server for the entire restaurant. She was overwhelmed and stressed. It wasn't her fault. The food was mediocre at best and a manager was nowhere to be found during the entire experience.
Buffet was mediocre but room was nice and not too crowded. Wait staff on point
Horrid service at lunch. I had to go look for someone to take my order. I asked for additional napkins which I never received. I had to go find someone when I completed the meal to give me a bill. It was like they did not have wait staff, only a manager and bartender. Experience was unacceptable for a hotel restaurant. It's a shame since the food was good.
I'm not sure why there are so many very negative reviews about this place. We went there for Mother's day brunch and it was excellent. The variety and freshness were great.
All of our family thoroughly enjoyed it.
Mother's Day brunch has become a tradition for our family. Love the food, service, and the desserts. Kids had a great time as well!
Hard to rave about a breakfast buffet... sublimely average in every way
When we arrived, no one was at the desk, no one was in the restaurant. We waited 15 mins, no one showed. The bartenders were there and people were at the bar but no one was staffing the restaurant. We could have went to the bar and asked if someone could help us, but after 15 mins, we felt they had their chance and we didn't want to eat somewhere with that low of service quality, so we left and enjoyed a nice evening at another restaurant that we DIDN'T have reservations with.
The food and drinks were amazing! Unfortunately the service was horrible, I had to search for someone to seat us and then our waitress disappeared when we were ready to get our bill. I went up to the bar and the bartender was gone as well. After about 10 minutes, we were able to find our waitress and receive our bill.
No one in the dining area. The bartender wanted us to sit in the bar area. No one greeted us, we had to go to the bartender to inquire about our reservation. Very disappointing.
Took this reservation because it was the only seat in town because of the Billy Joel concert and the Clemson game. The restaurant decided to cut the menu to basically burgers. We ordered 2 apps 2 burgers. Apps came 25 minutes later melted pimento cheese dip and cease salad. By this Time I said just bring our burgers which were ready anyway so we would have time to make our show. To sum it up service was slow...food was ok bit I couldn't order what I came there for to begin with. Don't waste your time or money on food stick to the drinks!
Thanksgiving dinner with my fiancé, his mother and his son. We all enjoyed the dining experience. They had a special menu (turkey and ham) and their regular menu ... which is rare.
Excellent service, great food, nice atmosphere, good wine list. Free valet parking was a plus - however, since it was a holiday, my fiancé have a generous tip.
Banana ravioli dessert- so good. But the atmosphere was no good. Date night happened in the middle of the hotel atrium and the noise level was a bit high. Food was decent, but I'd rather go elsewhere for good food and a good atmosphere.
I like the restaurant and the food. I took some Vegetarian collegues with me this time.
They were not able to find any items in the lunch buffet.
I was not able to try Jambalya rice because of Sausages.
I usually am head over heels for the food, but maybe I picked a bad day. They served an asian themed buffet and it was less than okay for me. Great quiet place to have lunch with a cozy romantic feel.
We went there for Mother's Day Brunch. It was nice and the food was great. My kids are both under 5 so they are free. I do think that charging $18 for a 5 y/o is a bit extreme. I get that you spend more on places like that on special occasions, but I wasn't the only person who thought that for $36 a person, there might be something slightly more upscale (crepe station maybe) or at least it wouldn't take 15 minutes to get the cook to pour batter in the empty waffle iron in front of him.
Made a last minute reservation for restaurant week and we were very surprised at the level of culinary talent and service we received. I had the lamb shank and it was perfectly cooked and presented well. My husband had the salmon and enjoyed but can't stop talking about his red velvet cake. Our waitress, Idianna, was very helpful with the menu selection and we never knew there were descent wineries in NC. Ambiance is lacking as the restaurant is open to the hotel lobby.
The food was excellent! All of the staff were great , very attentive!
I chose this restaurant because it served a North Carolina wine with its Restaurant Week menu which is from Shelton's vineyards the Chardonnay with excellent with dinner. I had the lamb shank with Marscapone polenta, sautéd spinach.for dessert red velvet cheesecake the appetizer the North Carolina charcuterie. My husband had pan seared salmon which came with crab meat sauteed spinach he had as an appetizer the she crab soup for dessert he had the molten cake with fruit compote and vanilla ice cream.everything we had was excellent and I was truly surprised considering the restaurant was inside a hotel.
Glass of wine that was included in restaurant week was awful. I couldn't even drink it. Cheerleading competition going on in hotel and seating was directly next to escalator. Appreciated that manager let beer be swapped out for at least 1 glass of wine.
If you're staying at the Hilton, the restaurant isn't bad, it's just your typical hotel restaurant. But if you live in Charlotte, I don't recommend this restaurant at all. Half the seating area is in the building lobby area and exposed to all the hotel foot traffic walking by. The service was kind of slow, and although the food was decent, it was clearly sitting under heat lamps for significant periods of time. My soup came out with a skin on the top, and the salmon was extremely dry. My fiancee's wine glass came out with half a dozen lip stick prints on it. Overall there are way too many better restaurants in Uptown for me to ever return to this one.
We went for Restaurant Week, that was a mistake. There really wasn't much diversity in the menu items. Food was typical of any hotel restaurant.
We were pleased with the food and service at Coastal. We would definitely go back for breakfast or lunch.
Little disappointed with the offering for the brunch at 11:00 am. The offering was only breakfast foods, and not really brunch.
The price per person was good, for what is being offered.
Training of the wait staff is suggested. Our waitress did not have many answers to questions that were being asked.
Met a friend for a business breakfast - we both had the buffet - with coffee, juice etc, and made to order omelettes, it was a good choice and the food was fine.
The food was succulent and the portions were great!!! Thank you again for the excellent atmosphere and service!!! My wife and I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner. We are going to try their brunch at a later date. Again, my wife and I want to truly express our gratitude for the 5 star meal and service that we received. Thanks again for an excellent date night!
Had dinner for my mom's birthday. We had a blast everyone was very nice and friendly. I would recommend my family and friends to this restaurant.
Many restaurants with in hotels cater to different types of people but the Costal must have been a little short staffed during my visit. The service in the dining area wasnt as friendly to my taste and not familiar with the menu. Unsure of how items listed were prepared or even tasted. Always enjoy dining at a new place with the staff is familiar with the available menu. Why would I eat here if youve never tasted anything or unsure of the taste.
Bartenders are Wonderful :) LemonDrop
We were staying at the Hilton for a concert at Uptown Amphitheater that evening. We figured it would be easiest just to have a nice meal at the hotel, but weren't sure after reading some reviews - we did it anyway.
We chose the Charlotte food week chef's menu for $30 which included wine and 3 courses. The food was fantastic and totally unexpected! I had the lamb shank and my wife had the mushroom ravioli and we both absolutely loved it.
The most amazing part was the balsamic & strawberry ice cream that the chef had made - unbelievable!
The food and drinks were excelint. But the service was bad and slow.
We took a Client out for a Business Breakfast. This restaurant is about 3 blocks from the Client's office so the location was perfect. We were seated at a nice table - given our choice of the available ones. We selected the breakfast buffet but it took about 10 min before any Server came to the table to either see what our breakfast choice was or to take our beverage order.
I took my wife for Mother's Day. The buffet was excellent and they even gave us 1 complementary alcoholic beverage. Desserts were great
The Mothers Day Brunch was very nice at Coastal. The buffet had a very nice selection of differnt foods. The omlette and meat statons were very nice addition. The food was all fresh and very hot. Everything was delicious. The desert bar including the choclate fountain was very nice. Very nice selection of deserts to chose from. Overall I would highly recommed this place for special occassions for brunch.
Service was exceptional! Great variety and selection. Food tasted great but ham was dry and overdone as were the brussell sprouts. On the other hand the lamb was cooked perfectly and all other dishes! Awesome Bloody Mary!
Took my mom, father-in-law, wife and son for Easter brunch and had a great experience. Great selection and variety. Omelet bar was a standout as was the carving station. Service was great: staff was caring and attentive.
My husband and I went for Charlotte's restaurant week. Making reservations over the phone was frustrating as we were put on hold for 5 minutes. Upon our arrival, there was no valet parking available and we had to leave our car at the front of the hotel. Our service was sub-par. The restaurant is loud and we still had to talk loud just to hear one another. The server didn't know what brand or type of wine that was being offered with the meal. The server didn't seem to know or understand the menu which amde ordering frustrating. The food, however, was terrific. Everything we had was amazing. We won't be going back because of the cost and service, but we really enjoyed the food.
Great food and prompt service. Everyone was friendly and spent the time to explain menu items if there were questions. I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
The environment is very strange since you are actually sitting in the lobby of the hotel. The service fine and the food is average. It is probably just a good drink spot.
Went for Charlotte restaurant week and food was poor. Gnocchi tasted like undercooked dough soaked in balsamic vinegar. Wont be returning.
Our family dined here on Christmas day and really enjoyed the brunch. The selection was varied and delicious. I would have liked to see a one or two more vegetable side dishes on the buffet, but everything was delicious and there was a lot to choose from overall, from the made -to -order egg/omelet station, to the salads,...the carving table & side dishes, and the pastries etc,..
The staff was very hospitable and warm, and the service was attentive and meticulous! We had our 2 y/o grandson with us and the staff really helped to make sure he had child friendly experience by tailoring service of drink /food choices accordingly. Over all, our whole family was impressed and we would definitely come back!
This Restaurant and staff are stand outs. The Food is creative, amazing and at a reasoable price. The staff is professinal and attentive. Look forward to dining at Coastal on my next trip to Charlotte.
