Coastal Grill Ratings and Reviews
CG is one of VAB's good eating places and the food is very good, with good choices. We dined in the evening on Tuesday, and it was somewhat crowded. The noise level made conversation almost impossible. One of the wait staff spilled some cream, or something white, which splattered on the floor and on to my hand and jacket. Little response except "Oh, did that get on you?" We have always liked CG but not this time. Food excellent...service not so good...and the noise level much too high.
One of my local favorites but salad was ordered with dressing on the side and it wasn’t. Main course served before appetizer salad was finished(not enough room for both plates). Tuna was ordered rare (plus) waitresses suggestion and it came medium to well done. Was reordered but too late to eat there and I took it home (cooked rare).
Our dinner was excellent; we both had Caesar salad and grilled salmon. Dessert was pumpkin bread pudding. Service was very good; our server was there when she needed to be and paced things just right. She also put a candle in our bread pudding and sang Happy Birthday to me when my wife mentioned that it was my birthday. She also took care of a couple of special requests, one that the squash not have butter and brown sugar on it and that the bread pudding was not heated too much. We appreciated that she got those things done for us. The ambiance of Coastal Grill is very nice, but it leads to difficulty in reading one's menu. A lady at the next table used the flashlight app in her cell phone. The next time we dine there, I may bring a headlight. :-) Coastal Grill has been on our favorite restaurant list for many years, so it's a given that we will return.
Our server was stiff, and reserved. Our usual waiter is a young man who is friendly and offers suggestions. We had to wait til 6:40 for our reserved table and asked to move to the bar at 8 as there was a table for 8 and our table was needed. Fortunately we had just finished dessert and were offered a complimentary cocktail if we moved to bar, but we had already finished our wine and after dinner coffee so we left. Still, didn't like the feeling that they were behind and our departure was desired, not for a tab of over $200.
Another tremendous visit. If you haven't been before it's simply elegant with the best servers in the market.
We started with some local oysters Perhaps best we've had all season. Then split one of their salads which are all ample in size. For entrees we had the seared tuna, pork tenderloin and a bowl of their local soup. All were great and the two larger meals were too big for dinner so went home for lunch the next day. It's that time of the year when entrees come with a side of acorn squash.
Ended it with a simple warm brownie and ice cream smothered in a dark chocolate sauce.
We've only had great visits every time we have dined here. You will too.
I ordered the NY Strip and asked for Medium Well. Came out completely overdone. And dry. My boyfriend ordered same thing but Medium. Was cooked just like mine, overdone and dry. Very disappointing!!! And the only sides served with the meals are Butternut Squash and roasted potatoes. Potatoes were okay. I can make better. And awful squash. Completely disappointed. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and was expecting a wonderful meal. So bummed. Won't ever go back again.
This place wanted to serve away and when it was time to leave have 3 rude staff workers follow myself and my friends outside to hound us about driving. It was rude and def uncalled for. If you don't want patrons to drive after a certain amount of drinks, then don't serve them. And don't make anyone feel the way you made me and my friends feel. We will not be back and I will not recommend to anyone that I know.
I had the good fortune to choose the duck entrée, which was fabulous. . . The appetizer of oysters was delectable and the acorn squash out of this world. . . I ate so much of my squash that you could see the plate underneath. . . guess I got carried away!!! AND The next day, I bought one of my own. . . I'm dreaming that I can prepare it as well! Our choice of an Oregon Pinot Noir was a wise one....! NO ROOM FOR DESSERT! A superb ending to my birthday!
