Coastal Grill Ratings and Reviews
The Coastal Grill was once again "on the ball". The food was terrific, the service was splendid, and the ambience was wonderful. The only problem I have with the dining room is that the lighting isn't conducive to reading a menu. A small keychain light or a smart phone flashlight app is a recommended accessory. We had a hummus & pita appetizer that was as good as hummus geta, a delicious Caesar salad, grilled salmon and shrimp & grits entrees. We don't like brown sugar on squash, but the kitchen served us squash without it. Once more, we'll be back.
Our first time here. Beautiful! We went on 13 Feb to avoid the 14 Feb rush. Wonderful experience all around! Impeccable Valet, Hostess/Servers, ambiance, oysters on the 1/2, swordfish, 14oz NY Strip, cocktails (X dirty Kettle martini), and dessert (brownie sundae). The absolute best steak and swordfish we have ever had. The smallest details, from the bread and butter before the meal to the place settings and space between tables were perfection. Waitress was so completely knowledgeable and non-pretentious. Can’t say enough about Coastal Grill - we will return for sure!
We went to Coastal Grill for a birthday. It was easy to make reservations through OpenTable. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, and our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being overly so. The menu was sufficiently diverse and our food arrived in a reasonable length of time. Everyone enjoyed what he/she ordered, and we're looking forward to coming again on another special occasion.
This restaurant is very close to being a great dinner out if they can just pay a little more attention to the food. My wife and I both had fish that came with a side of acorn squash. The Squash was huge and the fish was small. Too bad because the fish was delicious and the squash was nothing special. They need to watch how the other gourmet restaurants concentrate on presentation and portions. They've got the basics, it wouldn't take much to make a good meal great.
Other than that the interior design is wonderful, it's not too loud so you can have a nice conversation, and the service is fantastic. I hope they tweak things a bit because they are so close to having a first rate establishment.
My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Coastal Grill while celebrating my birthday. I had the salmon and he had the steak. They were both excellent. I love the salmon and the wilted bibb salad. The profiteroles for dessert are another one of my favorites. The service was good and the staff was friendly.
It was an okay experience. Food was not something I will crave for except for their spinach dip which I thought is the best. I feel like their menu is the smallest menu I’ve ever seen in my visits in restaurants so far but I admire the enterior design of the place. Looks elegant! Our server was nice as well.
A rare night at Coastal. Several entrees were sold out by the time we were sat for our 7:45 reservation. The fish was over salted. And fried scallops were inedible. When I told the server, she said several others had the same feedback. She offered to bring more oysters, but otherwise was unapologetic. This is our usual go to restaurant, but another experience like this and we will be looking elsewhere
I really did enjoy my meal, overall, but I think (for me) my plate was a bit overwhelming. I had the salmon with potatoes and the butternut squash. The salmon was beautifully cooked but the squash was a bit too sweet and large for my taste. The potatoes were rather large as well. I also enjoyed my pre-dinner salad (wilted bibb salad) and cocktail (peach tea sangria). Also, my waitress was very nice and attentive. She made me feel very welcome.
I would eat here again but the sides weren't my favorite
A crowded Friday evening as you would expect after a week's worth of snowed in customers! Not an empty seat at the bar and only a 5 minute wait for our table...not a problem. Food was excellent, service equal to the task and the price was appropriate for the season. I will certainly return.
Coastal Grill never disappoints. The sautéed flounder was fresh, well-seasoned and not over-cooked. The fried okra was a surprise side! The mashed potatoes were a nice substitute for the whole, skin-on roasted ones. Dessert, the chocolate espresso pot de creme, was decadent!Service, no matter who the server is, is always excellent and just another sign that Coastal Grill "gets it"! No wonder they're everyone's favorite.
We were celebrating our 58th wedding anniversary and our dinner was perfect! The server (Colin-sp?) was truly excellent. Our food was delicious and it was a lovely evening. The only jarring note was the noise level but I suspect the people next to us may have been hard of hearing or, conversely, one couple was attempting to out talk the other. Nevertheless, my husband and I had a really nice time and we definitely recommend this restaurant!
We enjoyed a special Christmas celebration for our party of 6 after a theater matinee. The evening meal was delicious from appetizers to dessert and coffee. Our server was wonderful!
I would prefer not to look out the front at the traffic and recommend shading the window. (The side glass is fine.) Will definitely recommend!
CG is one of VAB's good eating places and the food is very good, with good choices. We dined in the evening on Tuesday, and it was somewhat crowded. The noise level made conversation almost impossible. One of the wait staff spilled some cream, or something white, which splattered on the floor and on to my hand and jacket. Little response except "Oh, did that get on you?" We have always liked CG but not this time. Food excellent...service not so good...and the noise level much too high.
