Coastal Grill is a New American restaurant located in the coastal California town of Oxnard. The dining room provides a casual atmosphere and a family-friendly menu with a range of old favorites as well as new, inspired options. There is also a full bar with a range of wines, beers and cocktails available for patrons of the Coastal Grill.
The menu of the Coastal Grill includes a range of appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches and entres. The kitchen uses only fresh, local ingredients and provides many vegetarian options as well. Some of the standout dishes are deep-fried artichokes, mussels with chorizo, lobster toast and pork ribs with jalapeo corn bread.
Easily made reservations and I had the fish and chips which were one of the best on the west coast that I have had. My wife had the fish tacos and she loved hers too. They used fresh, never frozen cod for both the fish and chips and the fish tacos.
Very disappointing. The menu was not as stated online. We choose this place because of the variety of food and when we saw the menu at the restaurant we were very disappointed. We did not like the choices on the menu so we went to dinner somewhere else. Should've been a clue when we walked in and the place was empty.
The food was expensive and the portions were tiny. The food was good, but not worth the amount they charged for such tiny portions.
Absolutely overpriced. The food was mediocre, and the prices exorbitant. I only see this place as one of those you go to because you are just staying there. Ugh. Never again.
The food was overpriced and only OK. For the price of the entrees I would have expected better food and larger portions. The staff was very nice and accommodating.
The waiter did not know the menu. Small menu with no prices. Steak came already cut and with cold mash potatoes that looked like they were from a box. Fiance fish was small and came with very little burned asparagus.
At 7:30 pm, the restaurant was almost empty. Service was attentive. Fried artichokes were delicious, otherwise food was not memorable. Seemed expensive for average food. I don't think I'd visit again unless I was craving those artichokes - which could certainly happen!
We requested a table at Marker 7 Coastal Grill. When we arrived for our reservation, we discovered they did not work with Open table and did not have our reservation. You sent us to a different restaurant. Not that we had anything against this other restaurant, but Opentable really screwed up! It was very busy for restaurants that night. We waited forever to eat.
The restaurant is at a hotel and has indoor and outdoor seating options. I enjoyed the food while watching some kids play in the pool
Average food, limited menu, service was ok, but no reason to eat there unless you're staying at the hotel.
My wife and I had dinner their were only three tables with people the service was very slow
I had to ask for bread the server sead she would heat some up. We got it just before the dinner came. The menu is very limited. We had a steak which was very good I would not return
I usually expect wonderful salads and fruit dishes when in CA-perhaps the drought is affecting the menus, but there wasn't much variety. Eating outside is pleasant,
Tried to order cappuccino-watery coffee from a machine. Limited items, but nice people. Outside patio is nicer if the weather is pleasant.
Great private room and kind staff. Service was really slow. We had the private room in the back, our party was pretty annoying and the server was kind the whole time. Food was ok. It was delicious but minimal selections.
Plus the same food is served all day so eat here for lunch and find a better gem in town for dinner.
Food was good. Kale salad was fresh. They served the kids promptly (which was good since the were starving). I do recommend the s'mores on the outdoor patio. The s'mores were really good, came with hot cocoa, and a lot of fun to roast the marshmallows on the little fire they provided.
Server was very friendly and helpful. Keep in mind this is a hotel restaurant at an Embassy Suites, not the Four Seasons. Overall, not a bad place, a little pricey ($20/burger).
The write up says Ocean dining, inviting atmosphere and intimate dining. This is really however a restaurant at the Embassy Suites. Lots of noise, kids running around and C- food. No Ocean view or intimate seating. It is exactly what I would expect from an Embassy Suites, not based on the description. A disappointment I would put on that description. For OpenTable, perhaps you should require that disclosure.
Sandwiches were excellent and service was excellent. Disappointed that there is no water view, since property is next to the ocean.
The service was good, I was disappointed with the menu, I had expected more choices.
This place is located inside of the Embassy Suites at Mandalay Bay. The view is nice and the ambiance is great. The food was very good although priced just a tad too high in my opinion. We fojnd out from the waitress that they no longer charge a corkage fee for locals so next time we come back we will be bringing our own wine which will make up for the slightly over priced meals.
All in all we will be back.
Had a special dinner planned here--from a food perspective, it was terrible. Two of us ordered the steak salad and it was literally inedible. Every piece of meat had to be spat out because no amount of chewing would render it edible. We did not send it back as we were in a group of 4, and that would have delayed our evening. Service was very good--noise level is very high, so dont expect an intimate dinner.
Out of Lobster Bisque at 7:30 pm, waiter brought Cesar salads with fish on top instead of salad as 1st course and then fish as entree. He had bad attitude when this was pointed out. Would not return nor recommend.
We celebrated my birthday here and had such a special night. Our server, Samantha, was awesome. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
The Coastal Grill is the weak link in the Embassy Suites, Mandalay Beach, Oxnard experience. There are a couple of items that are good like the fish tacos but on the whole the food is not good. The servers are very cheerful but the service is very slow and the main room is extremely noisy. It is a pity because there aren't a lot of good restaurants around the Oxnard area and the Coastal Grill would attract a lot of clients, both from the hotel and the neighborhood if only it were higher quality.
The experience was pretty mediocre. The wait staff was not well-informed. The food was ok for the price but nothing special.
Although we loved Capistrano's and we're very sad to see it go, coastal grill was not a bad choice. Good range of food options, kids Mac n cheese was a hit (not the boxed kind either). Servers were supportive of hungry, cranky kids on vacation. Definitely come back again!
Good late night food. Wide selection and a good wine list.
Great views but the food was a little disappointing. The steak was underseasoned and tacos while flavorful, was overpowered by toppings. For the price, I was hoping for a little more.
This was very convenient at the Embassy Suites but also a easany surprise with very good food, wine and service. After a long day on the road a real winner.
Very good. The restaurant is not fancy just a regular hotel restaurant but the food is very good. The fish tacos are great!
My steak sanwhich was dry and tough. My friend had fish and chips and she said they were good.
While staying at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort, I was looking on Open Table for a good Restaurant nearby when I found the Coastal Grill on the Property of the hotel. The Service was excellent, the food delicious and if you are a fan of Bread Pudding, you have to try the "Cranberry Bread Pudding", one of the best I have ever tasted and I have tried bread pudding around the world.
Service was the worst I've had in a long time... And the place wasn't busy at all. We had to go find our server multiple times to order drinks and take our food order. Food was not good at all, and drinks didn't come out right. It was a disaster and there was no management in the restaurant at all. Never never never again....
No sound division between bar and dining area, so VERY NOISY if there is a game - we had to stop our conversations periodically when fans in the bar began cheering. Doesn't help that floor is slate and sound bounces around in this room. We had the International Restaurant Week menu, which was nice, but nothing special, with rather bland seasoning. My husband did like the flavor of the tomato bisque, although it was not hot when it arrived at the table (my husband even asked if it was intended to be served cold). Portions are large for all three courses (appetizer, entree, and dessert) and we each took half home to eat as another meal. Nicest feature of restaurant is the view from the window tables at sunset - lovely over the ocean.
Our food was prepared perfectly. We enjoyed our dinner and the pace was very good until the end and then we sat and waited for our dessert for at least 20 minutes. Our waiter made no excuses and apologized. We appreciated his sincerity.
The food was fine - nothing special, but nothing offensive either. Just your standard grill menu - salads, sandwiches, etc. The service was okay as well, though they screwed up a few things. But they tried hard and made it up to us with a free dessert. My family enjoyed the hotel stay in general - so if we decide to return one day - we wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. It's fine for what it is. Nothing more, nothing less.
Thought it was a bit expensive for the quality of the food and the setting. The food was good, but for the price, was expecting something more spectacular.
we loved our meal here two years ago. the physical layout has changed, and it is very noisy now especially when the manager's afternoon special is going on. the menu is more limited. our food was just ok this time.
The ocean view, tho slightly obstructed, was a plus for me. The diningroom is somewhat stark but full of light. The bar is noisy in the evenings and can be heard from our table, but not too intrusive. We loved the calamari appetizer and my lobster bisque was very tasty. My husband had the fish and chips, which he enjoyed. I the fish special on couscous with green beans. Also very good. The portions were generous so we had leftovers the next day. Our server was very attentive and friendly. A nice experience.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites where Coastal Grill is located. Aside from proximity to the beach, there is not much remarkable about this restaurant - or hotel for that matter. We ate at this restaurant twice when we didn't feel like driving anywhere. The produce is crisp & fresh and their couscous with green beans was very good - but it is used for several of their entrees, so it gets repetitive. They had a serious problem with cooking the Sea Bass - twice - very disappointing. Inconsistency seems to be their biggest issue in all areas of the restaurant and hotel. Unfortunately, Oxnard has very few good dining options, so unless you want to drive to Ventura you may find Coastal Grill to be one of the better options in Oxnard.
This restaurant is not as good as previous one at Hilton Embassy Suites, Capistrano's, but it is trying for different style and needs time to adjust. 1st thing I noticed was the neutral shade decor with no color. Noise bounces off high ceiling and flooring with no buffers. Dining room reminds me of a college dorm cafeteria; 1 big room with tables and chairs. No comfy, private booths. Was not impressed with very slow service during my lunch break. Will go back to try various things on menu. Basically, this place has no ambience as far as decorating. Adding some dividers between tables including plants would help the looks plus buffer sound.
Coastal Grill offers takeout which you can order by calling the restaurant at (805) 760-9040.
