COAST Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Excellent service! Our server Laura was great and very attentive. Knew exactly what we needed before we could finish asking. Recognize Laura from somewhere and she recognize us but really cannot remember why she’s so familiar to us. Regardless we enjoyed an awesome dinner.
It was a miss today for us, even though we visited this restaurant often in the past and have been very impressed with their food and service. While the appetizers were decent, our french toast and surf&turf salads were way overcooked, to the point where the toast was chewy, and medium steak was gamy.
Here, however, is where the service shined. Our waitress (bless her heart) promptly took away our dish and was very apologetic, and asked if we would like to have it remade immediately without delay. I know sometimes chefs have their "off" days too so we were fine but we wanted to grab the bill as my wife way wanted some desserts. Within two minutes, our waitress came back and told us that her manager or the head chef took care of our appies plus drinks as well, and again apologized for the mishap on the food. She asked if there was anything else we needed, being very courteous the entire time.
We ended up just leaving without having to worry about paying for our bill, which may not seem like a lot, but the gesture is what will be remembered. Hence, I will still return to Coast in the future, and look forward to a great dining experience once again.
Or dinner started off well however when my entree (the Mahi-Mahi special) came I immediately noticed the burnt scent coming from my plate. I tasted the fish and it was fine, so I tasted the kale side and it was disgusting - like it was burnt and seasoned with something to cover the burnt flavour. I brought this to our servers attention (more on her later) and after her investigation with the chefs, informed me that it was supposed to taste that way. She offered to substitute the burnt kale with some garden veggies which we accepted and they were fine. Shortly after the manager was making his rounds and stopped to check on us and when informed of our burnt kale he laughed about it, shared that he hates kale, and inferred that I was a hipster for even ordering the kale. I had to bite my tongue in order to not snap at him as we had already asked for our food to be packed up and were leaving very soon.
Our waitress who was as unprofessional as any server I've encountered, offered remarks that she "was so jealous" as she placed our entrees in front of us and her continued exaggerated giddiness at almost every interaction was far below my expectations for such a restaurant.
Imagine my delight to see that neither our waitress, nor the manager, felt compelled to adjust our bill for the burnt kale.
Needless to say, this was not even close to what I've experienced at other Glowbal restaurants, and I would have a very hard time recommending Coast to anyone.
I reserved a table for my husband’s birthday two days before Christmas, and noted the occasion in the reservation. My husband had done the same for me at another Glowbal restaurant for my birthday. The contrast between restaurants was night and day. For my birthday, we were seated in a private booth and all staff attending us knew of the occasion. For my husband’s birthday, we were seated at a tiny table off the kitchen beside a busy server station. We had arrived during happy hour and inquired about specials. Our server said we were not in a happy hour section and he could move us. We declined, although now I think we should have moved. He offered us a few happy hour specials then asked if we had any questions on the menu. Unlike the server for the table beside us (which was so close I could have easily eaten off their plates), our server didn’t tell us of the evening specials or ask if we had allergies. Our waters were rarely refilled, often reaching empty unlike our other Glowbal experience where they were never half drank before refilling. Our server checked in once when our food arrived to make sure we had everything then did not check back. We had the shared platter. The salmon, tuna and brussels were great. The crab was difficult to get into with no pre-cuts and the lobster was chewy like bubblegum. Hot towels for cleaning our hands weren’t delivered until near the end of the meal. The other staff member who bussed our dishes asked how it was and she told our server. Our server told us the crab and lobster were prepared correctly. Interesting, since we had a similar dish at the other Glowbal restaurant and the lobster was tender, melting in your mouth. I feel like we should give Coast another chance as this was our first time but the total experience with table location, noise, food quality, lack of attendance and not even a happy birthday wish for my husband...I don’t know that we will visit again. I get the holidays are busy, but it should not be an excuse
Dumb staff! They didn't mark me down for opentable and then my account got suspended. How stupid is their staff?
I spent personal time to sort it with opentable to explain that their staffing issues shouldn't cost their customers, especially when I made it a point for them to mark me down when I arrived. I even confirmed it with the hostess. I called the restaurant again when they did't give me the credit and they said the manager will call back. DUMB LIARS! They offered no compensation and no apology on the restaurant's behalf.
Also, the sirloin didn't come out as well done and they gave a rare steak so the waitress offered to take it off the bill and didn't actually do that. HOW DUMB IS THEIR STAFF?
COAST RESTAURANT IN VANCOUVER HAS TO DUMBEST STAFF! THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO HIRE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL
Sushi + sashimi platter was sub-par in taste and value compare. I'd suggest you skip the sushi and sashimi or don't get your hopes up. Also had the seafood linguine and it was just a regular seafood linguine, nothing special about it. Overall, I wasn't blown away with the food at all and somewhat disappointed...
The service was excellent. The gentleman whom was our server was excellent. He did not intrude but always there at the right time. He even split up the bottle of wines with those who ordered evenly.
Food was amazing. The group (7of us) loved their individiual meals.
Service was excellent. Food however was far from excellent. Seafood tower was disappointing. Lots of bland tasteless overcooked shellfish. Mains and desserts were ok only. Factor in the high prices and this place is a miss for me. There are plenty of other restaurants in this price range that deliver way better on the food front. It’s a real shame because the room and service were great.
happy hour was excellent, especially the oysters and fries. however dinner entrees (lobster and crab) were no good. crab had no flavor and barely any meat inside, and lobster was a little better than the crab but not as good as other restaurants we’ve been to. perhaps we’re eating the food out of season? veggie was cook ok and the rice was lumped together, tasted mushy rather than fluffy and hot. i would only recommend the happy hour. also our server was excellent. he checked up on us, brought the food out timely, and served us well.
I want to thank you and your staff. I planned a special occasion with a group of 15 people for my wife’s birthday and it was wonderful. The setting was really classy and comfortable and the food was excellent. The servers were very professional and attentive and your booking staff very professional. My contact, McCall was very helpful and I commend her for her assistance and helping me organize the details. I will be back for sure!!!
We went to Coast to try out the seafood tower. There was a good selection of seafood to choose from, but it would have been nice to have a few sauces for some of the things. The sushi was tasty, the poke not so much. Overall everyone enjoyed their dishes, but the group was a bit underwhelmed. Can't complain about the service though, it was good experience overall. Would return, but not on my list to go back anytime soon. Perhaps maybe for some more oysters!
Simple fish and chips were undercooked (nearly raw). When we raised the issue they offered to replace the dish or take it off the bill. We decided to finish the rest of the plate and take the dish off the bill. We were unhappy about the undercooked fish but the server addressed the issue.
We had a lovely time. It was a birthday dinner for one of our party. Our server(Isabelle I think) was terrific, knowledgeable, fun and considerate. The restaurant is expensive but we knew that going in so no harm there. We were especially pleased with our seating. We were situated upsatairs near the back where it was nice and quiet.
We ordered seafood tower and it was pure disappointment. Shrimp was soggy and when you peeled to eat them, powdery residue would come off on your fingers - tasted disgusting. We told our waiter and he brought us "shrimp cocktail" on the house. Shrimp cocktail was better, but not great... Other seafood in the platter weren't great either... we left a lot of food. Never going back.
