COAST Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My one complaint is the music. If you look at the age of the clientele, the music could be age appropriate, and not so loud. I asked them to change the music one time and i was told, well the owner likes this music. Is the owner there every night??? Food is great, so i put up with the music.
I just moved back here and Coast use to be a go to for me many years ago. Fast forward 6 years later I don’t know what happened to that place. I ordered the lobster and it was tiny! They also didn’t bring me mash potatoes so they had to afterwards same with my date. Overall the server was friendly the food quality was mediocre at best I will probably not go there again.
Mixed review. Food was decent, but not great. Like my $44 pan seared scallops dish was good in the scallops portion, but the pork belly that comes with it was way too salty. It also took nearly a half hour between our appetizers being done and our main course being ready. I’m certain they forgot about our order, which happens, but an apology would have been nice, or maybe taking off the price of a drink? The table we were at was also within elbow bumping range of the couple beside us, a little awkward for a date night. Service was friendly. I noticed they bent over backward to appease a table where I assumed they complained (overheard the wait staff and manager(?) saying do whatever you can to make it right) but I guess because I didn’t complain loudly, no one bothered to see how it could be made right. Like I said, it was sort of a “meh” experience.
I don't mind the food at Coast but the service from my last visit left a lot to be desired.
I was accompanied by a vegan friend who had to send their meal back twice because it didn't appear that the staff their understood what vegan meant which is disappointing given that in this day in age most places are not only incredibly accommodating to alternative lifestyles, but also enjoy the challenge of creating an inclusive menu.
I am not a vegan, nor do I have any dietary restrictions, but I felt bad for my friend.
We went to The Coast for the first time ever during DINE OUT Vancouver. We had Stephanie as a server who was, hands down, the best server we have had anywhere. Ever. She was absolutely charming, welcoming, helpful and made our date night experience simply perfect. As for the food, we did not end up ordering from the DINE OUT menu. Instead, we shared a calamari appy, we each had a clam chowder and then we shared the seafood tower. It was all delicious, fresh and well presented. We were very surprised at the portion size of the soup, especially. The clam chowder was DELICIOUS and a huge bowl! For a nice night out or special occasion, we will absolutely visit again.
We went for dine Vancouver but ended up eating thier special for super bowl day. Ribeye steak, rib and lobster .
We felt that combo should be heavy so we didn’t order any starters but the server surprised us with sample of Salmon croquet.
Thier dessert portion are good for sharing. Key lime pie is tasty but I felt heavy on the cream topping.
Overall first time experience is excellent so we will come back!
After booking my reservation with open table I received a call from the restaurant warning me I had a time limit and I had to be done with my table by 8:30pm(as they had another booking). I was taken back at first but thought my husband and I could keep our date night dinner within the time frame. When arriving at the restaurant we were again reminded that we had to be finished within a certain timeframe. After sitting at our table another waitress came to also tell us we had to be finished by 7:50pm. Now this is 40 minutes earlier than what I was already called about. I felt extremely rushed. Very worried if we would be out in time or finished our meal for that matter. The feeling of rushing our order and eating our food was more disappointing than I thought. We didn't even have time for an after dinner coffee or dessert. Our waiter recommended a restaurant close by...
The food was delicious but like I said I would have liked to enjoy it instead of rushing to eat and knowing we had to hurry.
We were there for dining out. Everything is good except that we cannot feel full after we have finished the meal. One thing to mention was that I just know that the pork can be cooked rare as the waiter told us it is a good pork meat and refuse to replace the meat. As it was the only piece done in that way out of other 4 pieces, I am just not confident to eat that rare pork meat.
I just wanted you guys to know that we had a horrible experience.
We had to wait 40 minutes for our table which was reserved 2 weeks ago. It was confirmed through email and a phone call the day before. When we arrived they said that we only had reservations for 6 when clearly in email and phone call it was for 14. Then they blamed us for not telling them even after I showed them the confirmation email I received was for 14.
After we sat down things got worse. We waited 1 hours for just the appetizer. Another 40 minutes for our entree. We ordered 30 minutes before the table beside us (which was a table of 10) and they still got their food before us. They finished eating their meal before we even finished our appetizer
Personally I ordered a drink and I didn't get my tonic water unlike every one else. I asked but never was brought it. So I paid for a $15 drink and only got half of it.
Overall it was not a great experience. We as a company go out every Friday and we will not be going back to Coast.
Someone should follow up with the staff there so others won't have to be disappointed.
I was there for Dine Out and was excited to try it as I had heard great things.
The $40 meal was sub par - particularly the seafood main; the crab was obviously previously frozen or just kept too long in the steamer table. The oysters we ordered off the regular menu were delish but that's pretty hard to screw up.
It took forever for the desserts.
It kinda felt like we weren't good enough to dine there because we ordered from the Dine Out menu; wish I'd either went somewhere else or spent an extra $10 to be treated like real customers.
I won't be back unless it's someone else's suggestion sometime... there's too many great restaurants in Van to waste money here again.
For the first time, I was disappointed in a Global group restaurant.
The restaurant was exceptionally noisy, with a large after-work crowd still there, including a group of businessmen gathered at the bar who were obviously drunk, had been over served, and were loud and annoying.
We advised the server we wanted to take our time through the evening, however service was rushed throughout. We ordered off the dine-out menu, and included the wine pairing. All of the food tasted great. However, the soup was warm (at best). We ate it without complaint, but it should have been hotter. The entree was barely warm and we sent it back. The meal was re-made about 20 minutes later, and it was excellent.
As the evening went on, it was enjoyable. The drunk businessmen departed, our second meal was delicious, and the dessert was good. The server accommodated my partner's dislike for bananas, and brought a different dessert option - a nice touch. The wines offered were excellent.
Overall, it was an OK experience but I would not rush back, nor recommend.
we went for regular dining at Coast before and experience was good. Then, we went for dine out. We ordered Caesar salad, seafood bowl (the other 2 choices are pork chops and ravioli) and a coconut cake. The seafood in the bowl is all tasteless, small mussels, small clam, few dice of fish and a piece of salmon. they all tasted like frozen seafood, but for $40 per person.
Enjoyed a Saturday night birthday dinner for 2. Our reservation was honoured on time by a friendly hostess. Our waiter was attentive and efficient as were all staff. My husband had the Dine out menu of Lobster bisque, Ciopinno & coconut/banana cake. He enjoyed all but particularly the lobster bisque. I had the west Coast Experience- New England clam chowder, whole lobster with veggies (delicious broccoli & cauliflower hybrid and a kale & brussel sprout hybrid... surprised I liked them so much) & a fabulous creme brûlée. I loved everything... I thought the clam chowder could use a few more clams! Overall, a great dinner. I would recommend and go back.
We went to Coast for dinner the night we got married, over 7 years ago and loved it! This time was much different. We decided to return for Dine Out. We sat on the second floor overlooking the bar, which is a great spot. The food came quickly after ordering. My wife had ceasar salad, which was underwhelming with way too much creamy dressing. I had the lobster bisque, which was tasty, but presentation was lacking, it was like they spooned the soup into the first available bowl they could find and brought it out. For our main we both had the Cioppino which was flavourful, but also seemed to miss something. Presentation was not what you would expect at a restaurant with Coast’s reputation. For dessert I had the coconut banana cake which was delicious. My wife asked the waitress if it was possible to substitute the banana dessert as she hates banana’s, the waitress said no problem. Problem was she got literally half a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead. I understand if there are no substitutions, but really? Just tell us no, she tried some of my dessert and actually liked it as it had almost no banana taste. Maybe it was due to the dine out event, but whatever the reason we will not be heading back with so many other amazing restaurants to choose from.
We booked reservation for Dineout 2018 based on their posted menu. We were very much excited when we had arrived, only to find out the menu has changed. Our only explanation was they might have posted the wrong menu at the start. So in the end, we ordered from their regular menu. Food quality seem to have gone down since our last visit (we normally eat here once a year). The waiter/service was exceptional however, so the visit was not a complete wash. Will I visit again, probably not.
We waited quite a while for our food to be ready. It was a little hard to get the attention of servers because they were probably busier than usual with Dine Out. The hot water had a funny taste and I didn't feel comfortable drinking it. I ordered the West Coast dinner with lobster. My husband ordered from the Dine Out menu. My clam chowder tasted better than his lobster bisque; mine has clams, there was barely anything in his. The cioppino was aright, more tomato taste than anything else. I didn't like his banana coconut cake; I much preferred my creme brûlée. For us, the West Coast dinner was better than the Dine Out selections.
The service overall was good, our server was abrupt and made you feel a bit nervous. The lobster bisque was very good, the entree clams and mussels were over cooked and like they were just in tomato soup by the salmon was cooked to perfection. Desert was delicious, overall a good 3 course meal.
Laura our server was amazing! Very attentive and super friendly. Dine out dinner was ok but not as good as I expected and not that great of value. However on regular menu the food and oysters were fabulous! Will definitely go again but not order dine out menu.
