COAST Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Service was excellent. Food however was far from excellent. Seafood tower was disappointing. Lots of bland tasteless overcooked shellfish. Mains and desserts were ok only. Factor in the high prices and this place is a miss for me. There are plenty of other restaurants in this price range that deliver way better on the food front. It’s a real shame because the room and service were great.
happy hour was excellent, especially the oysters and fries. however dinner entrees (lobster and crab) were no good. crab had no flavor and barely any meat inside, and lobster was a little better than the crab but not as good as other restaurants we’ve been to. perhaps we’re eating the food out of season? veggie was cook ok and the rice was lumped together, tasted mushy rather than fluffy and hot. i would only recommend the happy hour. also our server was excellent. he checked up on us, brought the food out timely, and served us well.
I want to thank you and your staff. I planned a special occasion with a group of 15 people for my wife’s birthday and it was wonderful. The setting was really classy and comfortable and the food was excellent. The servers were very professional and attentive and your booking staff very professional. My contact, McCall was very helpful and I commend her for her assistance and helping me organize the details. I will be back for sure!!!
We went to Coast to try out the seafood tower. There was a good selection of seafood to choose from, but it would have been nice to have a few sauces for some of the things. The sushi was tasty, the poke not so much. Overall everyone enjoyed their dishes, but the group was a bit underwhelmed. Can't complain about the service though, it was good experience overall. Would return, but not on my list to go back anytime soon. Perhaps maybe for some more oysters!
Simple fish and chips were undercooked (nearly raw). When we raised the issue they offered to replace the dish or take it off the bill. We decided to finish the rest of the plate and take the dish off the bill. We were unhappy about the undercooked fish but the server addressed the issue.
We had a lovely time. It was a birthday dinner for one of our party. Our server(Isabelle I think) was terrific, knowledgeable, fun and considerate. The restaurant is expensive but we knew that going in so no harm there. We were especially pleased with our seating. We were situated upsatairs near the back where it was nice and quiet.
We ordered seafood tower and it was pure disappointment. Shrimp was soggy and when you peeled to eat them, powdery residue would come off on your fingers - tasted disgusting. We told our waiter and he brought us "shrimp cocktail" on the house. Shrimp cocktail was better, but not great... Other seafood in the platter weren't great either... we left a lot of food. Never going back.
My family and I were out for my mom’s birthday and she decided to come here. The lobsters chowder wasn’t spectacular and neither were any of the main courses (miso maple sablefish, surf and turf salad, and sirloin steak). The really incredible thing about COAST was the seafood tower and the service. The service included the kindness of our waitress who gave us complimentary cones for an appetizer and a “happy birthday” chocolate lava cake dessert.
We used to love going to COAST on Alberni Street as we always got that special treatment by staff. This time however, it did not feel the same. We reserved a table for dinner, and when we got there two tables looked like people just left and therefore had not been cleaned and set up for the next patrons. And we were actually five minutes late, and therefore, were disappointed that the table was not ready yet. Even though our server, Natalie, was amazing, and yes, it was busy, but felt that we were waiting for the wine, the lemons for the water, the cognac. Maybe this are all small things but we picked COAST because we have always had tip top service in the past. Mind you we did get a free dessert as it was my partner's birthday. Thank you Coast.
My wife and I took a client and his wife here for dinner on Nov 11th. I have been to Coast several times over the years and always found it a bit overpriced but accepted it as the cost of the location and ambiance. On this experience, we ordered two crab dinners ($99 each), one lobster dinner ($70) and a fish n chips. The meal honestly looked like something you might get at Red Lobster (for a lot less). My lobster was tiny and chewy and came with steamed rice and what looked like frozen veggies from a bag. The crab dinners were the same, although the crab wasn't rubbery. All in all, for a $500 evening, I felt insulted and ripped off. There are so many fantastic restaurants in Vancouver that deserve a shot, Coast's arrogance has caught up to them.
This is one of my absolute favourite restaurants in the city. Not only is the food some of the best, what I really love about this restaurant and what makes it exceptional is the ambiance and staff. The entire staff makes you feel welcome right from your walk in and the wait and bar staff really make you feel like they enjoy having you there. If you're looking for amazing seafood, the food here merits a visit on its own, but if you're really looking for a great evening out Coast is a must!
Went to Coast as a friends recommendation for my boyfriends birthday and it was a great night out! Our server Natalie gave us both recommendations of entrees. I had the miso maple sablefish and it was so delicious! Something I’d never pick myself so im glad she was so helpful. A manager named Aaron came by to check up on our drinks and dinner a couple times and was very genuine and sincere. Overall really nice night out and i also like that there is parking right beside the restaurant so you aren’t roaming around trying to find a spot
On tight schedule, so both ordered lunch special: shrimp curry with coconut milk rice. Dish came in one bowl. Good luck trying to taste coconut milk rice drowned in tasteless curry. Guest's portion had four pieces of shrimp ... all of which fit on one small spoon. Only one was a "whole" shrimp.
I was trying to figure out if the mysterious cruciferous was broccoli or cauliflower...a couple still had some green spots but was otherwise white. Inspired by my guest's "four" pieces of shrimp, I went through my bowl methodically. At first it was almost funny. There was pepper, cauliflower, a piece of broccoli , two cut halves of a tiny fingerling potato, a cherry tomato...but as it became apparent that there was not even a single piece of shrimp, the fun disappeared. Unbelievable! I still had not eaten any of it. Perhaps they could bring shrimp or a menu but we needed to remedy the situation asap due to our tight schedule. But alas, our waitress was nowhere to be found.
Guest tasted his: "Hot (spicy) but no flavour. Don't bother."
Service was equally underwhelming. We were served by a young lady whose tattooed forearm was unfortunately the most memorable thing about her (not in a good way.) We received little to no service from her. Is she a magician in training? She's good at disappearing! She plunked down two glasses of water and disappeared. Finally came and took our order and vanished. Plunked down the two bowls, waited 20 seconds to ask how the first bites tasted. We hadn't even had time to HAVE a first bite. That was the last we saw of her until we had to take drastic action. We had to leave if we had any hope of having something edible. We didn't even get offered bread. There wasn't another server around. So, no one to ask for anything, not even the bill. We decided to leave. Stood up, slowly put on our coats and started walking toward the door, still incredulous. Only then did she give us any attention. Too late. Sorry (not sorry.)
