Coast Guard House
We had a wonderful dinner with friends at the Coast Guard House. The view and service were wonderful, as always. Also, our meals were very fresh and delicious.
Everything was great, service was great!
We went to Sunday brunch. Had a table overlooking the ocean with the waves breaking over the rocks. It was absolutely splendid. The food was wonderful - I could not more highly recommend it.
Great food and service
My wife and I were first timers at the Coast Guard House for a special anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect from the reservation simplicity on OpenTable, to honoring our window seat request, to the best calamari I think I've ever had, to attentive personable and sincere attention by our server Lea, to tasty Haddock, scrumptious scallops and Brussel sprouts that were to die for. The white sangria and local beer list were the tops. What put it over the top and tops on our return to list - was the service! Lead by Lea who was appropriately attentive, genuine in her conversation with us, supported by timely staff around her and smiled! Even the valet was timely and greeted us with a smile and a welcome. See ya again soon. David and Lisa
Wonderful place w/ a bit of history attached and a wonderful view!
The meal and ambience was great!
Amazing views and good food - we were there for our anniversary and had a great time!
We loved our scenic view, and everyone enjoyed their meals. Lauren, our server, was friendly and efficient.
Overall yes, I would recommend the CGH because we are local and regulars but the past three experiences have been sub-par. As for this reservation, we specifically booked this reservation for a promotion for a "Full Moon Dinner". We booked for 8p for the moon, anticipating having a moon view table (I actually put a note on the reservation with Open Table but it did not get communicated to CHG). Checking in the staff did not know we wanted a "view" for the event and the system just put us in for the dining room, we then put our name in for an outside table. (The outside dining and inside dining do not hold the same booking) EOD we ended up getting a nice table on the glass inside and saw the moon! Great view, great table, service was very good but the food was a 5. Very disappointing and I ordered the/my go to the Clams and Linguini. Didn't finish and didn't box to go, wasn't good, actually the last time about a week ago it wasn't either...Mussel appetizer...a little smelly
Super excited to try this out.
Upon arriving, snarky hosts... I can deal
Service overall amazing. Nicest lady and super patient as I could not hear my own thoughts it was so loud.
Food— just terrible. Quality from stuffies(beyond mushy)to bland tomato/buratta salad was poor. Lack of taste as well.
My lobster was so over cooked it was dry. Tasteless.
My husband had the grilled shrimp that were again so over cooked that you could barely chew them.
Sides of mixed grilled veggies and baked potato tasted funny like a burner taste.
My son had a burger which was the only saving grace.
Absolutely loved the food! The views are spectacular and it's such a great place to have dinner with that special somebody.
Noisy, drunk tacky crowd, terrible food smothered in disgusting sauces. Valet demanded a tip
The main reason why I chose a 4 over all was for two reasons. One, the valet was rude and was yelling at us when we tried to pull in. Good thing was we managed to find street parking close by. Second is the noise level. It was quite loud and had a hard time hearing our server. Otherwise, everything else was fantastic!
Always a good meal
The Coast Guard House was a great overall experience. The the staff was very friendly, and we were seated by a large window with the most amazing view of the ocean. My entrée was delicious. I ordered the penne with pecorino Romano cheese, cherry tomatoes, arugula and grilled chicken. However, my husband ordered linguini and clams and found it very bland and unusually sweet. My sister ordered the rigatoni Bolognese and it was OK but not the best she’s ever had. It was also slightly sweet. Maybe there was a mixup between salt and sugar. You can’t beat this place for it’s location, so it’s definitely worth a visit. Reservations are for the inside only. To sit outside, you need to put your name on the waiting list.
Brunch was delicious . We sat with a view of the ocean and enjoyed our meal.
You sure can't beat the scenery. I know it's peak vacation season, but the restaurant was extremely noisy with many small children. I eat there often but every time I come away with the same feeling - that the food is good but not excellent.
We drove an hour (both ways) from the East Bay to dine here, and the food and views were totally worth the trip.
The Coast Guard house is always consistently excellent. We went for our wedding anniversary but it is also excellent for a casual lunch or a dinner with a group of friends or business associates. Having Valet parking is a big plus in Newport. And the upstairs outside seating area is great in the summer, as is the patio downstairs. Or you can just have a drink is the Adirondack chairs outside.
Noise level is quite loud as there is nothing to absorb/muffle it.
Attentive service without being overbearing. Lots of outside seating too. Valet parking fills up quickly and on summer days street parking is quite a hassle. Really it is all about the atmosphere.
Great food. Delicious seafood, we loved the lobster tamale. Only complaint was they sat us tucked in the back when there was a row of tables open by the window. Good ambiance and atmosphere. Great view of the ocean.
Beautiful location. Mediocre food and service.
Our meal was delicious, and the view from our window table was fabulous! Our server, Tom, was very pleasant and attentive. However, the people at several of the nearby tables were quite loud and boisterous, well after they were finished with their meals, which took away some of the ambience of our dining experience.
Perfect day to enjoys nice lunch on the deck. Good and service always great.
We were vacationing in Rhode Island for the week, and I had asked for a window view of the water when I reserved the table two months in advance to our evening. Last year we enjoyed our meal so much that we definitely wanted to book again. When we got there, the hostess brought us to a window table the furthest from the ocean as possible. I had heard she and another host talking about what table to give us and he was going to give us one table and she said that’s a really good one. When he came back he said oh I’ve decided to give them another one. When she brought us to the table,I said something, and she responded with that was all they had. Really, I reserved the table on open table two months in advance, the guy said he was going to give us a table with a great view, the restaurant had other open tables with ocean views, and we get relegated to looking at the sidewalk and rocks with a sliver of ocean view. The section we sat in smelled extremely musty as well, as if they had the wet basement open . I was disappointed and felt that the wealthier clientele were treated with more respect than us and given better tables. They assumed that we weren’t, but not sure why. The food was good, but not worth the smell and the way we were treated in the beginning is making me question going there again.
Had to request bread and water no than once before it was brought over, actually water was never refilled after requesting same.
We had very attentive and friendly service. Food was fantastic- large portions of upscale cuisine!
We particularly enjoyed our very solicitous server
In many ways, as good as it gets! BUT, we sat on the patio for thew first time in hopes of sea sounds and other patrons voices. Instead, terrible MUZAK! Please turn it down, or better yet OFF! The view, the food, the ambience are perfect - NO (or very LOW) background music necessary! Thanks; we'll be back!
We had lunch there this past Sunday afternoon and enjoyed everything about it! The ambience is lovely, the service attentive but not intrusive, you cannot beat the location, and the food was delicious! Oysters, chowder, simply grilled swordfish and jumbo shrimp cocktail left us too full for dessert but we’ll make sure to save room for that next time.
The staff was attentive and courteous, though not overly friendly. The staff's attire was a tad sloppy, not crisp or professional. The deck hostess had too much cleavage showing, in my opinion. The atmosphere is bright and open. We were being shown to our table, but the table wasn't ready, so we had to return to the podium to wait. Unprofessional. The clam chowder was wonderful, but we were dizappointed with the linguine and clams.
Excellent food, service, can"t beat the view! Took my wife there for her birthday and can't wait to go back.
We loved our meal at the Coast Guard House. Ordered the vegetarian risotto, pasta, burger, and Wagu ribeye. Everyone loved their food. View was beautiful.
Best lobster corn tamale! Great views!
Sea food, sea view so good. Asked for a window sit for my special day but did not get it. There were plenty of open tables near the window
Can't say enough. We returned to this area for a couple of days R the waiter articulately explained the menu and the specials. The food was well-prepared, plentiful, and delicious. Next time, we will try to save room for dessert!
My waiter was perfectly pleasant, but the noise was awful and my swordfish overdone and not fresh. I should have sent it back.
CGH never disappoints!
