Coast Guard House
Great meal great service had a 9 month old with us staff was wonderful!
We were visiting from Long Island and a friend that had dined here recommended Coast Guard House to us and we are so glad that they did. The lamb chop appetizer was excellent. We had the scallops entree and the swordfish entree and they were both perfect, flavorful and well presented. The dessert of Lemon Ricotta Tart with berries is outstanding. Overall a wonderful dining experience.
Lovely venue to celebrate birthdays with friends.
It was very busy and a bit noisy (big parties)
Our server Jessica did a great job.
we were never rushed and she was busy!
Certainly a great place to enjoy an evening on the water.
Had an issue with some “skunky” red wine. Waitress brought me different reds and finally opened a new bottle. Problem solved. No charge and hated to be sending back the wines but they were undrinkable.
We enjoyed delicious, attractive drinks and a delectable clam chowder to start. Our meals of clams and linguini and roasted veg salad with seared scallops were attractively presented and were both extremely delicious. The serving sizes were appropriate, not over loaded. We shared a lemon tart with blueberry sauce for dessert that was light and oh, so satisfying. All seats have the ocean view. Our waiters were friendly, courteous and very professional. The restaurant itself is sparkling clean. The ambiance, service and food all deserve a perfect ten!
Great view. Food was good. Lobster salad on greens. Nothing amazing. Lobster tamale good, more like creamy corn with chunks of lobster meat. Calamari just ok. Go for the view.
This setting, on a beautiful day, cannot be beat. Outdoor seating is prime coastline viewing in little old Rhode Island.
We had 11am Resevations and was taken right in
We brought our 3 year old grandson for brunch
Our waiter Adam was very sweet and attentive to him
Placed his order first to keep him busy
They had a children’s selection that wasn’t on menu
It Was a beautiful afternoon View is spectacular.
Would go back when in town
View was great! Food portions small for price paid. Four scallops $28
I visited Coast Guard House for the first time 9/7/19 to celebrate a friends Bachelorette party. Beautiful restaurant with absolutely amazing views of the Ocean. Probably the only thing it has going for it. The food was mediocre at best, but yet extremely pricy. I had a plate of pasta with scallops(which had way too many herbs. Was extremely "earthy" tasting) and a small cup of soup.. I had water to drink. It cost me $37.99. The service was also not great. I think we saw our waiter twice the entire time. There was a hair found at the bottom of my glass and when brought to the attention of our waiter he simply said "Okay, I'll get you a new glass". No apology. Nothing. Our waiter wasn't even the one to deliver our meals to the table. We also had a couple drinks at the upstairs bar where the atmosphere was also unpleasant. There was no place to sit other than the tables of which we were told we werent allowed to be seated at because we only had alcholic beverages.. So our option was to stand away from the bar considering there were no empty seats.. In a cluster. Which was probably more inconveinant than it would have been for us to sit at an empty - not being used- table. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.
Great place to take our friends from out of state. John our waiter was fun friendly informative welcoming ! Food was very good.
My linguini and clams had no flavor. There was little sauce and the waitress brought me more. The lobster special was the same. We were underwhelmed with the food. I probably would not go to the restaurant a second time.
A beautiful window front table overlooking the water and a delicious lunch make for a perfect meeting!!
The lobster roll was outstanding!
The noise level, however, prohibited conversation.
Perfect view when you have to wait for a table. Had reservations but it still took 20 minutes. Food and service was great. The Lobster Roll was to die for. Plenty of lobster. Clam chowder was good too.
The service was amazing, and the two non-vegan entrees were great! But if you’re vegan, skip it. The “available vegan” option was white rice with scallions and radishes. Very bland.
We had a fantastic time. Great seats, great view, great food and great service! Definitely coming back.
It was a special occasion but it’s an every day place too. Especially outside. Our server Adam was excellent. He was very patient with my 90-year-old dad and our four-year-old. Can’t wait to go back
We arrived an hour early to enjoy the outside bar and view. The experience there was great except for the bees buzzing all around the bar. Our drinks were great.. generous pours and not at all watered down. Our reservation time was at 4:30 and we checked in promptly only to be told it would be another 15 minutes, but that was no problem. The hostess came over shortly after to seat us. Luckily for us, we were seated outside which was wonderful on such a beautiful evening. Our server, Bianca was very nice, however things went down from there. She asked if we’d like drinks. As we were still finishing our drinks from the bar, we said that we would maybe order some wine in a little while. We ordered apps, which came promptly and were delicious. Then ordered our meal. I ordered the filet mignon, which our server recommended. I ordered it medium rare, but more on the rare side. The food came to the table, but before I even had the chance to cut into my filet, she came to ask how it was cooked. I told her I hadn’t cut it yet. That was it... she never came back to check on us, nor ask if we’d like more drinks. Turns out my filet was quite over cooked. Most definitely on the well done side. I should have sent it back but did not as it was still very tasty and not at all tough. I would so much have enjoyed it better had it been cooked to my liking. Other than this, the food was very very good, but the service could have been better.
Amazing location and outstanding Lobster Rolls. I would sit at the upper deck
A neighborhood find, with all tables (indoor, outdoor, rooftop) overlooking the water. A busy bar scene and valet parking. Very good food. An upscale, tasteful place in an area with very few others.
I was very pleased that our waiter allowed us time to enjoy drinks and did not hurry us to order. I had planned to enjoy a drink outside for an hour but there is no longer a place to do that without ordering food. That was most disappointing and on a beautiful day would cause me to go elsewhere.
Beautiful location. Fresh seafood, pleasant servers. Highly recommended.
Had a great meal at CGH. From the minute we arrived, everything was perfect. Hostess was friendly and attentive. Great table, great food and a fantastic server—Tiffany took great care to ensure a perfect dining experience for everyone.
Having been to the Coast Guard before, I was eager to return but this time I was disappointed with the food preparation.
Noisy venue and very cold throughout the restaurant. Specify if you want the simply grilled option or menu option. Our waiter assumed the simply grilled and our three orders were not to be. Beautiful decor. Great spot. Great wine.
Great place if you’re looking for seafood, and you can’t beat that view!
We had a fantastic waiter named Matthew. The swordfish was out of this world!! Beautiful night!!
When You make a reservation, you don't expect to wait over a half hour after your reservation time. The table that was do be ours was occupied by the previous customers who wanted to linger. No host or hostess came to me to let me know unless I went to them and asked. I thought they may have offered another table, but I'm glad we waited because we had the best views.
Worth it for the view!
Our server was outstanding!
We enjoyed our experience at The Coast Guard. It was a fun environment with a beautiful location. Our server Erica made it even more awesome. Great time!!!
One of the best food places in Newport. Great ambiance and service. Highly recommend.
Dinner was delicious, our server was attentive and friendly, and our view was amazing! Great location!!!
I ordered the lobster roll because I heard such great things. I asked if they could make it hot and they said yes which was exciting. However, when it came it was only warm lobster in a bun with no dressing or seasoning. I asked for melted butter to try to flavor it but I ended up not liking it at all. I would recommend just getting it cold with Aoli. Sad my last lobster roll of summer was so blan. Thankfully we had great apps, they were the best part of the meal!
Food , service and ambiance was fabulous. Will definitely be back!
Went twice in one week, once with colleagues and another time with my toddlers who are foodies (!!) and picky. Love everythjng. Lobster roll is everything, I substitute brussel sprouts for fries. Best meal ever!
The pasta special was delicious but way too soupy. We still ate every bite. The fish & chips was excellent because of the fish, but the chips (fries) need improvement. A bit pricey for lunch time, but I will go back again and again.
We had a lovely dinner with friends. We lucked out with fair weather, so could enjoy the priceless view. Our menu selections were outstanding. The Lobster Corn Tamale won the prize as everyone’s favorite. We have already made reservations for our next visit. Cannot wait to go back.
