Coast Bar & Grill – Charleston
This Restaurant was close to our hotel so we thought we give it a try. It was a wonderful surprise! Located in an old railroad storage building gave it a unique ambiance.
Delicious with wonderful service! Enjoyed it so much we went back the next night.
Waitress was pushing us out the door from the start. In and out in 45. Waitress (Alex) just stood at our table waiting for selection instead of giving us more time. Bill came one minute after the last bite went into our mouths. While I do love efficient waitresses, this felt like someone trying to turn the table quickly for another dinner
Really enjoyed the place, food was great and a good value. Service was very good but not the friendliest of personalities from both the bartender who waited on us or our waitress. We will go back on our next trip in September
I so wanted this to be better than it was... The atmosphere is very cool - located in what looked like a brick warehouse with super high ceilings and exposed brick everywhere. There is history there for sure. We had some great drinks at the bar - I had a very refreshing basil gimlet. Our appetizers were great. My husband had bacon wrapped scallops and we shared the small size seafood bar appetizer. One thing that bothered me the whole time was the placement of the lighting. The VERY bright overhead lamp over out table was in my eyes the whole time. I constantly had to shift in my seat to try to shield the light from my eyes. Not all tables had these lights, but it bothered me the whole time. Our server was very forgetful. My entree was terrible. We were told they were known for their grill options, so I got one of the specials - yellowfin. It was VERY overcooked and had zero flavor. My husband had a menu item, which was very good - the ahi tuna crusted with peanuts. I had food envy all night! His entree was very good.
Great food! From the cocktails to the shrimp ceviche appetizer to the crab cake main course, it was delicious! Love the casual Charleston dining atmosphere! This is a place not to miss!
We arrived with a reservation and were told computers were down and that we could go to another place next door for a drink and they would call us at some point. We didn’t understand...if we had a 7pm reservation why we couldn’t just be seated at 7 or close to it at one of the many empty tables. Overall the food was good, but felt a bit rushed. Mojitos are great!
A computer failure caused the restaurant to be in a bit of a dither when we arrived and we were seated about 25 minutes late but the excellent server and the food more than made up for the delay!!! We will definitely return!!!
Meal was good but a bit overpriced. The restaurant computer system went down for about 20 minutes with no adequate backup plan to handle credit cards. Their plan was to copy my credit card number and run the charge later when their system was back up
We sat outside at Coast this time. The service and the noise quality was so much better. Everything was perfect about our evening. We explained to our wait staff that we had an event to attend to and she made certain that we were finished by the time needed to make our event. We could not have asked for better service or better food. Thank you Coast!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday because she lives seafood and she was absolutely in love! The atmosphere and location is great, the food was amazing, and the value was even better! I will definitely be back when I return to Charleston.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Everything ordered was cooked perfectly. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely return.
Everything was delightful. Food and service excellent.
It was an overall great experience. It was our anniversary so we decided this would be a good choice. The food was great. My husband and I both enjoyed our dishes. We had a sweet waitress. We will be back. A little pricey but we like to go for special occasions.
This was our first time in Charleston so we went to Coast because of the good reviews. We cannot understand how this restaurant has gotten so many positive reviews. My grilled salmon had no taste at all (except for the char taste, which isn't what you want to taste) and my sautéed green beans were also tasteless. The only thing that helped me eat either one was the fact that the garlic potatoes had enough seasoning to help the salmon and green beans along. The service was just ok; efficient but not very friendly. I would not recommend wasting your money at Coast. It was definitely a bad introduction to dining in Charleston. Fortunately, Charleston has many many restaurants, and we made much better choices the following days, where the food was much better and the service was much friendlier.
From the turn into the alley to be met with the neon enter sign straight to the killer service and presentation and food preparation, the whole experience was awesome!!
Food was good. Service average. Very noisy due to loud large party sitting next to our table.
I really liked the ambience, but the food was just average.
The dinner we had was good - I was sorry that they changed the tuna recipe, as I really liked the old one. But the Swordfish was lovely, and the flank steak was ok - a bit chewy but tasty. We got out of there with one drink each, for about $90 - about average for Charleston on graduation weekend...
Always a great experience . Lovely staff and servers. It’s my favorite in Charleston. Never had a bad meal and look forward to dinner every time we go!
Excellent!!! our waiter was the best. Very friendly, informative and on top of his game... I would highly recommend Coast Bar and Grill to friends and strangers..
Amazing food and atmosphere
$38 for grouper with little to no flavor. Blackened swordfish was more burnt than blackened. Very disappointing.
Excellent food great service. Had a great vodka drink from the cocktail menu.
Great time celebrating my daughter’s graduation. Great food and enjoyable atmosphere
The food was great! We really enjoyed the crab and avocado appetizer. That should be an entree on the menu because it was so delicious. The service was fast and friendly. Out waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. Overall the evening and food were wonderful!
After all I heard about this place, I was disappointed. It was simply 'ok'. Wife and I had the wood burning specials. Her $28 swordfish was dry. My $34 grouper was raw and barely cooked. It was also a small piece of grouper and the vegetable portion was also small. Only the mashed potatoes were adequate (of course so you could feel full from junk). The first couple bites of grouper were 'ok' but then I hit the raw part. By then, the piece was so small, I couldn't ask them to cook the rest of it. Since it was featured that the wood burning oven was always 1000 degrees, the cook must have only had my grouper on for a few seconds to slightly char the outside and warm the inside. Or it was just heated raw in a microwave.
Great meal, good service
I would recommend
Close walking distance and a really nice restored building .
Great seafood and we ordered a bottle of champagne , nice evening at Coast
The service provided by Rylee was superb! The food was prepared to perfection, and incredibly delicious!! The house white is a Spanish blend, and quite delicious; a perfect accompaniment to my seafood! The restaurant is in a historic building which adds to the ambience of dining in lovely Charleston. All employees, from hostess, to bus people, to chefs you can actually speak with face to face, and servers...all very friendly, and welcoming! Thank you for such a delightful experience! It made my Mother’s Day dinner even more delightful!
Ordered the swordfish and salmon which were both very good. Crab dip was just okay - we are from Maryand so we are extra picky!
meal was pretty good. loud in the place we sat. they told us it was out on patio, but was really just on the door in and out of restaurant. Service good
awesome location. we caught a show at the Music Hall next door. Service was quick, food was AMAZING!!
I’ve been here each time I visit Charleston...it’s always great in every way!
Was a late night meal option after a decision to make a quick trip to Charleston. Good drinks and wine. Energetic waitstaff. Food was good. Fish a little too charred for my taste off the grill. All in all though we enjoyed it.
The scallops were not fully cooked in our entrees. Quality and quantity of food were lacking.
We began our evening with delicious and refreshing peach sangria. For entrees, we enjoyed wreckfish and mahi mahi from the wood grill. Both were perfectly cooked and generous portions with the perfect amount of grilled flavor Accompanying sides were also enjoyable. A most enjoyable dinner.
The food was phenomenal, our server was phenomenal! This was not my first visit but the rest of my party had not experienced Coast before! They were extremely impressed and satisfied with their dining experience and can’t wait to go back! Job well done!
Nice view, good food and reasonable prices, hit the spot with us. First time here and we enjoyed ourselves. I wouldn't call this a top end seafood restaurant but you won't pay $32 for 4 scallops on a plate with a few colorful sauces dripped on in an artistic display. When the food becomes secondary to the presentation I know I'm in the wrong place. We will return.
The food was excellent and the service was great also! 1/2 price wine bottles on Sunday was a big plus!
Loved the atmosphere and the food. Our waitress Rachel was terrific. Very knowledgeable on the food and how it was prepared, made terrific suggestions. She was always so enjoyable to talk to, made the experience just that much better.
