We wanted to try the restaurant week menu and it was great!
We ate off the restaurant week deal with an added order of oysters. The calamari and the crab cerviche appetizers were both excellent. We both got the same main course, the surf and turf, which was also very good, ribeye cooked perfectly. Both deserts were also great. They had a nice beer and wine selection, had an IPA and a Pinot noir which were both very good. The wine list was a little pricey with the cheapest bottle being $40. Riley was our server, she did a great job, knew everything about the menus, beers and wines. The courses were timed perfectly, never on top of each other and never had to wait. Would definitely return on our next trip to Charleston.
The restaurant is 4+, in my opinion. But the undercooked blackened whitefish and the steamed muscles on the jambalaya were a bit much for my wife. Whitefish in the raw side of things doesn’t have the aesthetic impact that say Ahi Tuna would have, so it turned her off right away. I tried both, the muscles and the undercooked whitefish, and they were good. But the decrease in stars is based on expectation of what jambalaya typically is vs what it was this round. It might be a low country thing, but being new to Charleston, this was a first for us on the whitefish thing.
I had sirloin medium temp, and it was cooked to perfection, but a little on the thin side, and a little gristley. I don’t expect much though since this is a fresh catch joint. The salmon was good, and the shrimp ceviche was outstanding (but missing avocado we thought). But the bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp, as well as the grill marked pound cake, was outstanding. Decent wine offerings as well, with Bonanza, my personal favorite, on the menu.
Fun place, excellent service, and all around good restaurant.
Food was outstanding fabulous seafood in a town full of seafood choices
Great experience and Tyler was awesome offering suggestions and recommendations. There were young children in the booth next to us that made it a little challenging. They weren’t really happy being at a nice restaurant lol
Within 30 seconds of our server greeting us she literally told us “I’d rather not be here right now” Appetizers came out 2 minutes after ordering them so either they were a mess up from a different table and just sat in the window or they are pre made and just sitting out, either way the Calimari was like warm at best. The steak we both got was way charred and overcooked. The bacon wrapped shrimp were also so overcooked you couldn’t cut them with a knife. Dessert was alright, hard to mess up ice cream from a bucket. We chose to go there for restaurant week because it came highly recommended and the “freshest seafood in Charleston” slogan appealed to us. It was an absolute let down that we chose to go there.
Coast is always terrific. The food was amazing. Service was spot on. We will be back again soon!
I will go back soon. Taco Tuesday is on my radar since it is quite a deal!
Ambiance is great, so was the service! Shrimp ceviche is the best we ever had, steak and sides were just ok, I’d stick with the seafood!! Delicious! It’s a bit pricey...
Excellent all the way around!
All was good but the rock music that they were playing was a little inappropriate.
We do not get to Charleston often but eat at Coast when there. The fried oyster appetizer was wonderful as was the grilled mahi-mahi entree. We did miss the delicious bread from past visits.
Friendly staff! Great food. Good COVID compliance, not crowded but busy enough to enjoy “being out”!
Coast is known for seafood. I ordered grilled swordfish and received a thin filet that was way overcooked. Server was friendly and attentive.
We sat at the bar and the service was phenomenal and so was the food
New Years Day dinner.
Food was awesome!! Service was not the best. Our server seemed disinterested in being there. 39 Rue de Jeans service was much better than coast.
Enjoyed New Years Eve dinner with another couple. Their first time here and were very impressed with the food!!and had no idea that their alley location was even there. Now they do and will be back. And us too. We’ve patronized here before.
Thank you! Excellent service and food!!!
Thank you!!
We were celebrating my wife's birthday which was also New Year's Eve. Our waiter was excellent. I had blackened swordfish over a cornbread with etoufee sauce which was very good. She had grilled scallops which were perfectly cooked. Good key lime pie for desert. The only negative was that the raw bar chef needs to learn to count, our dozen oysters only had eleven on the plate.
Drinks were excellent!
Oysters for the day were great tasting
Ceviche was meh
Chefs mixed grill - meat & fish were prepared to wanted temperature. Great grill flavor
Braised grouper - great flavor, a bit too much sauce
The environment here was my main motivator for visiting. It's an old warehouse covered into a restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed eating here! Prices were moderate, but given the title I was disappointed by the lack of fresh seafood options in the menu. And no crab at all. Though there was crab soup and crab dip as apps. The good we did order was tasty, but if if looked at the menu closer I may have opted for somewhere else. However, they are practicing social distancing, which is definitely not the case at many places in downtown Charleston. So that was greatly appreciated!
The grouper was exceptional! They use a wood fired grill and it really makes a difference.
The food was mediocre, my wedge salad was half frozen. The crab soup was dehydrated. The service was bad, it was if the server didn’t want us there, she never smiled it was as if she was forced to work a shift she didn’t want. She would bring us new drinks and just leave the old glassware behind. There’s too much competition in Charleston for that.
Wonderful service and food!
Coast is one of our favorite restaurants downtown.
High quality, hearty portions. The grilled pound cake was enormous and certainly enough for 2-3 people! Nice experience
we are on the patio and it was PREFECT. they had heaters , fans and plastic if needed we felt so safe.
thank you Coast for a wonderful Christmas eve experience
Good food and attentive service.
This was our first time at Coast and we were delightfully surprised. Starting with the location, the restaurant is accessed through a tiny alley connecting two streets like a well-kept secret. Due to the Covid danger, we opted to eat on the patio which had three walls and was buffered from the wind by sheets of plastic on the open side. It also had a number of ceiling heaters and we never noticed the cold. The menu is rich in seafood. Being seniors, we opted to split a salad and the chef's grill platter. The waitress was so kind as to divide the salad beforehand and bring an extra plate for the main course. Everything was excellent. As an appetizer we chose the crab dip which was delivered with a substantial amount of crusty bread. In spite of dividing the order, we were quite satiated. afterwards, we took a peek at the main dining area and it is worth a visit. The 40-foot high ceilings are remarkable and it is decorated in a tasteful-rustic manner. We hope to come back in 2021.
One minor problem: it is impossible to telephone the restaurant itself beforehand with questions or concerns. There is one phone number for about eight restaurants and no one was fielding calls both on Sunday evening and Monday morning. We finally got a call back later on Monday. We found this particularly disturbing during the pandemic since we would have liked to discuss safety issues before booking. Other than that minor issue, we were very happy with our visit!
Food, service and everything was absolutely excellent!!
Everything was perfect 😀
We were there for oyster happy hour. Fun to pig out on oysters and not break the bank. Our experience was close to "normal," but we were sad to see too many empty tables.
Come on folks; come to Coast. It's good.
The food is exactly as it should be: fresh and well prepared. The servers pay attention and give very good to excellent service, there's a nice selection of wine by the bottle, and on Sunday nights there's the music of Graham Worley for a relaxing and entertaining ambience.
Very consistent in all aspects, and a favorite place of mine.
Excellent service. Ended up eating at the bar since we were early and had a drink first
1st time here and it’s a Great place!
Loved the food and ambiance
Hostess not real welcoming nor was manager standing beside her.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The appetizer came out extremely fast, and the wait time overall was short. The service was good. They were able to make a few amendments to our order to accommodate food preferences.
We had no complaints. We would definitely return next time we’re in town.
Awesome seafood, great service! Our waiter provided thoughtful recommendations, as it was our first time dining there. We had swordfish with a crab etoufee and jalapeño corn bread, as well as a seafood pasta with red vodka sauce. Delicious! The atmosphere was comfortable and the lighting gave it great ambience. We will be back!
We shared blue point oysters on the half shell which were very good. I had the wedge salad and shrimp & grits. The salad & entree were great. My spouse had the fried oysters with fries and blue cheese slaw. She loved her dinner as well. Our server was great. We enjoyed our dinner at Coast.
Great experience. Highly recommend. Crab cakes were a standout, and fried shrimp as well. Even the fries were exceptional. Enjoyed our evening!
Food was very good. Service was great. Good Covid-19 protocols in place.
