Coast Bar & Grill – Charleston
Need to book at 4:15 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Despite telling the server about food allergies and trying to review everything, I ended up extremely sick after the meal. Clearly the allergies were not communicated to the chef and/or the chef made a mistake. Very unfortunate as I lost out on a concert for which hundreds of dollars had been paid in addition to the pain and illness from the allergy.
This is our go to place for dinner prior to a performance at Charleston Music Hall.
Restaurant week menu
The appetizers: oysters and shrimp were very good
Entrees: shrimp and grits good
Surf and turf jalapeño shrimp good
Steak charred and just ok
Dessert chocolate mousse good
Coconut cake recommended by the server dry and tasteless
One person in the party ordered a ribeye and was not happy with the steak fatty and to much surface char
The server was very nice and attentive
I would recommend Coast to a friend for sea food only and to think twice before ordering off of the restaurant menu
My steak came back well under cooked for medium well, the waitress agreed and had it re-cooked and when it came back it was completely charred. We ordered bacon wrapped shrimp and the bacon had been burned as well. It was during Charleston restaurant week so it was very busy but even though I've had other positive experiences there in the past I will not be returning.
The sirloin was better than most filets I have had... The Ceviche was amazing, and I will definitely enjoy dinner there again.
Nice place close to our hotel. Good selection of seafood dishes. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal.
I don't like the choice of "Energetic" as a noise level. This implies that somehow "Energetic" (which means noisy) is a good thing. It is not. Restaurants should be quiet enough carry on a conversation with your guests.
Food was delicious and good portion size for the money. Mussels were very tasty! Highly recommend.
The food was perfect. We visited Charleston for a few days to see the town and enjoy the seafood. Coast has perfect seafood. We enjoyed the crab cakes and scallops, done perfectly. Wine was 1/2 price bottles. Got a great wine to enjoy. Key lime pie was super for dessert. Service was enthusiastic and the table in a perfect locatin for conversation. Next time in town, this is the first place we'll go.
Food was excellent, service was excellent! They ran out of the Chefs special which was my first choice, but the Cioppino was a delicious second choice! Will definitely be back!
Good food and a good time. Very satisfied.
We were visiting Charleston for New Years and have been to coast before and loved it so we went again!
When we visit we usually go to one of your restaurant
Service with a smile was very good. Food portions varied. Four Bacon wrapped scallops appetizer was good and okay value at about $14. Seared scallops, also four, with mashed potatoes $30. Asked for cole slaw instead of veg. I was okay with a $2 upcharge but I received a portion I could not see without my glasses and it was just average. Crab cakes were nothing to write home about. Desserts were good.
Unfortunately we leave enough time between visits to Coast that we forget that we were disappointed last time, the time before that and once again this time. Ambiance is good, service is pretty good, but somehow the food value for money does not pull it all together. Too bad.
Grouper was very under cooked.
Same piece returned with a gas grill or burnt skin taste.
Maybe “wood fired “ is not for me.
Very good crab soup and dessert.
Nice cocktails. Good service. Lots of fish choices.
We got four different appetizers and an entree to split. Mussels, crab dip, ceviche and calamari. They were all fantastic, except the ceviche had maybe just a tad too lime. We got the surf and turf for our entree which was supposedly a chef special for the night, and honestly it was just awful. It had wood fired salmon, a steak medallion, and jalapeño wrapped scallions. All you could taste was smoke with the salmon, the jalapeño wrapped scallions didn’t taste like anything except for jalapeño, and the steak was so tough that we couldn’t even bite through some parts (it was even cooked medium rare). Honestly the meal would have been fantastic if we had just ordered the appetizers. I would still go back, but now I know what to order.
Sea food was delicious and service was efficient. The only complaint we had was that we had food delivered to our table but didn’t have silverware. Once we made the waitstaff aware, they were prompt.
Service and food as we expected, always good
Nice atmosphere at this restaurant. The design was well built as the ceilings were high; the additional roof lines that were added inside the space provided a feeling of eating near the water in some fish shacks. Made it feel more intimate. The food was tasty as were the drinks. A very good overall experience with a last minute reservation.
We were passing through and saw that they had good reviews. Boy did they exceed our expectations! Service was fantastic, food portions were huge, atmosphere was incredible. The food was fresh and savory at every bite. I highly recommend this restaurant for any type of occasion. You will not be disappointed!
Food was fantastic. Would definitely eat there again.
Great food, service and atmosphere. We’ll go back again and again!!
The service and the food were wonderful, even better than expected
Had an amazing appetizer recommended by our server- the crab and avocado ravioli. Wouldn’t have picked it off the menu myself but it was SO good. Also would recommend the rare seared tuna. Delish!!! Will definitely be back.
Wood fired fish a bit too charred tasting which overpowered the fish flavor. Side items were delicious. Good cocktails.
Out waiter was outstanding and very helpful. Our meal was very good. We had the Grouper I would order again.
Great dinner for my birthday! Coast’s crab cakes never disappoint!
Very rushed service. “ Kitchen closing at 8pm.” I understand it’s Xmas eve, so why did you take my 7:45 reservation?
Shrimp cocktail was ok. Crab cake was terrible. I’m not even sure it was real crab.
Everything was over-salted.
Always wonderful. Our favorite restaurant!
Overall was a good date night place . Food price didn’t match the atmosphere I don’t think. Good food , no issues with the taste / quality.
Wonderful meal and outstanding service! Phil knows how to run a restaurant!
Thoroughly enjoyed my seafood entree. Great location and great service.
We loved it so much! Definitely will be going back!
We were told that a booth where we wanted to sit was reserved for five people. We were then made to sit in the back of the restaurant. Having had a reservation I was disappointed. Our server was just lousy. She made us feel like she was doing us a favor waiting on us. Our entrée came out only warm. We complained and the server did nothing. We called the manager over to our table while he was walking through the dining room. He had been behind the bar for a long time helping out. It was the first time we saw him in the dining room. We told him that our food was only warm not hot. He did take some money off of our bill but that was about it. To top it all off, as we were leaving, the booth that we had wanted to sit in had only four people in it not five. I told the hostess that she was a liar.
The menu is great, but the execution was subpar for a downtown restaurant. I ordered the mixed grill. My medium-well steak came to me nearly raw. It came back charred, well-done, and dry after I sent it back. The seafood was better, albeit fairly ordinary. The service was positive.
Anniversary trip in Charleston.
Best service and food I've had in a long time visited from Dallas Tx drive from Columbia to Charleston to eat the best shrimp.
Our server was fantastic! Food was amazing! We had a really great time with friends!
I enjoyed my cashew encrusted Grouper at Coast Bar and Grill in Charleston. The service was attentive and timely. My sides were also pleasing as was the beer selection. The atmosphere was casual and festive. It was a good seafood outing
The food was salty steak was overdone not medium rare Fish was grilled and a little dry
