Coast Bar + Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We went for Easter brunch, I emailed the restaurant with the same info in this review but didn't hear back. The Easter special was a buffet, food was lukewarm, had to ask them to refill 3 different foods on buffet. Menu was ham, lamb and fixings. Nothing too notable but was $43 a person. Outrageous!
We were a foursome. Our food experiences were a mixed bag. The calamari was very good...crispy and served in a unique way. Two said the lobster pasta was very tasty though the portions were rather small. Burger was fine. The The pan seared scallops were over done and very small. The cream of asparagus soup tasted good with the addition of salt but had tons of apparatus "threads" in it that made it very unpleasant. But overall the service was very good, the live music was great and we'll be back. I've had the flatbread in the past and that was very good.
Food was good although New Years menu was unimpressive. Service was terrible! We waited 20 minutes for anyone to even bring us water and then had to ask the hostess to see if they could locate our waitress. The manager came over and apologized and took our drink orders but it was 10 more minutes before those arrived. We waited another 30 minutes for an appetizer of 2 scallops (they didn't mention was not enough for 2 people) then another 40 minutes for our meal. Coffee afterwards was served stone cold... we didn't even attempt dessert.
We had a lovely birthday dinner here Dec. 10. We were fortunate to have a table by the beautiful fireplace, really nice on a cold night in Maine. We were seated immediately; the service was friendly and the bar was quiet at 6 pm when we arrived, and it remained so when we left at about 7:30 pm. The wood grilled pizza was wonderful; the prime rib excellent, as were the salads and the chocolate creme brûlée. Nice wine and beer list as well and cocktails.
Will definitely return.
This was our first venture to the restaurant. It was a recommendation from someone we work with. We went for dinner, but I am sure that lunch would be good as well. The menu is small, but there were several very delicious-sounding appetizers that we considered. We ordered two that were really good. We both enjoyed our entree choice as well. We would definitely go back.
Good food, lots of waiting. The place was completely overwhelmed and it was only half full. Servers were in experienced and did not know how to keep up. Good music playing but the noise from the bar made it hard to hear. I had the mussels, which were tasty, the mushroom flat bread was more bread than mushrooms. My wife had the lobster pasta and whole the lobster was good, the pasta had sat too long under the heat lamp and was glued together. We are new to the area and will certainly explore other venues. Very disappointing, but I should have listened to other reviewers who had the same experience.
Being in Maine I thought the crab cakes would be good as their website implied using local ingredients. The crab cakes were mostly bread crumbs and tasted like the ones you find frozen in the supermarket - awful. I had the lobster pasta for an entree and the sauce was good but the lobster meat rather tough. Given the quality of the food I skipped on dessert.
Best tid-bits menu. Lobster rangoons and Deviled Eggs! They make great cocktails...definitely try the jalapeno margarita! Best steak I have ever tried, which my husband enjoyed thoroughly. We went for a friend's after-wedding-party and the bartender's were amazing as well. very attentive and served awesome homemade seasoned popcorn.
We were celebrating out 25th wedding anniversary...I had requested champagne on ice. and when we arrived, it was ready. We were pleased with the big comfy chairs in a private location. (wish you did NOT have tv screens tho...guess it's a sign of the times??!)....we were VERY surprised in receiving a complimentary serving of chocolate dipped strawberries & real whipped cream to go with our champagne. Our waitress was outstanding, friendly...sincere..We LOVE the Daniel and this restaurant....I dont' understand why more people don't frequent this wonderful restaurant...it's the NICEST in the Bath/Brunswick/Topsham area hands down!
We have eaten at Coast before and been very pleased with the food and service. This time the food was a disappointment. Teriyaki pork ribs were overdone and chewy and the 'spicy soy glaze' was very sour---none of the sweet counterpart one expects from teriyaki. Salmon skewers were good, but the 'warm fingerling potato salad' consisted of undercooked rounds of potato and very little dressing. The kale salad was fine. Creme brulee was runny. The service was friendly but the server was busy, and had to be prompted.
First time, didn't know what to expect..went on a whim, Everything was above average expect for the WAIT, we waited 40 minutes after we ordered before our food finally arrived and the place was half full, the food was great...the we waited AGAIN to get our Bill and I had to get the attention of a staffer walking by so I could pay the Bill. I'll give them one more chance, I hope I caught them on a bad nite.
The restaurant is small, separated from the bar area by a large see through fireplace. We were there on a very cold night so the atmosphere was just what we needed, warm and cozy. The service was very good, very friendly. This is a nice place to have dinner in a Brunswick.
This was our first dinner at Coast Bar + Bistro. We were guests at the hotel, and chose to eat there before the theatre. My husband loved the special mussel dish (a starter) cooked with lime. Usually he prefers mussels cooked the traditional way (i.e., wine, garlic, oil/butter). My Ceasar salad was one of the best I've had. The wait staff was excellent.
My husband, teenage daughter and I had a lovely meal here on a quiet, cold Friday night. Our server was friendly and helpful. Our 3 entrees were perfectly prepared and very tasty indeed. And the kale chips starter is terrific. The chef even gave me a tip about how I could make them at home, as mine are never as crispy or green.
Four of us went out for a special dinner. Menu was quite limited, so three ended up ordering hamburgers and sweet potato fries for the "special" dinner. Burgers and fries were fine, but that's hard to screw up. One ordered the Duck Two Ways entree. One way was confit, and was mostly over-done onions and other ingredients and not much duck. The other way was sliced (loin?), and even though cooked medium was tough and flavorless. Three carrots accompanied the duck. Nothing else. When we got there, we were just about the only ones in the restaurant. Despite that, the arrival of drinks and other service was slow. The only upside was that the selection of wines by the glass was pretty decent, as were the choices for single malt scotch.
off the beaten track but not far from downtown brunswick. i'd perceived it as fancier/pricier than it actually is. with bottle of wine, 2 soups, an appetizer, and 2 steaks, the bill before tip was ~$100 - pretty reasonable.
highlight was n.e. clam chowder - quite good, better than average. mussels were good, but came w/o the sausage the menu said it came w/. steaks were a let down. cooked accurately according to our desired doneness with nice char but were a tad dry and came w/ no sauce! if they add a nice red wine or béarnaise sauce, they'd be great.
funny complication - some one had taken our reservation (as in, used my first name and took our table). no matter - it's spacious and on a sunday night there were plenty of empty tables.
Nice layout, with the pub on one side of a chimney wall with a fireplace in the center and the main restaurant on the other. Music Friday and Saturday nights - good singer the night we were there, enjoyable but not so loud that it interfered with conversation. Good beer on tap, including some excellent locals. Very good food, pleasant and attentive service. Easy to get to once you know where to go, easy walk from Maine Street. Will definitely eat there again.
Hadn't been here for many years and decided to try it for dinner before a MSMT Performance. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely menu and had a very enjoyable dining experience. Service & food was perfect! I had a Caesar salad and the seafood scampi and LOVED it. My husband also had a Caesar salad with the scallops for dinner and he was very pleased with his meal as well! We have been disappointed with other Brunswick restaurants lately so are so happy to have rediscovered No 10 Water! We will go back soon!!
Located in the beautiful historic Daniel Stone Inn, this restaurant has potential. The ambience was great - service certainly adequate but food somewhat disappointing. Seafood scampi was bland and overpriced for what it was. Burger was average - better than fast food, but not as good as homemade. Air conditioning was working very poorly - we sweltered througout our meal. Won't likely be back
We were a group of 8 having dinner before a play in Brunswick. We all had appetizers, entrees, and most had dessert. We all enjoyed our meals and got to the play on time. THe wait staff was notable. They knew the menu and were very courteous about interrupting conversations while maintaining a time schedule. We have 3 more plays to go to in Brunswick this summer as a group. I think we will return to No. 10 Water at least one more time.
We were only in Brunswick for the day and chose this restaurant because it was on Open Table. The Inn is charming and the restaurant is well appointed, but the food needs some work. While the clam chowder appetizer was good, the two entrees that we ordered were not so good. The seafood stuffed trout was particularly sad. I hope there are other items on the menu that are better.
