Coast at The Ritz-Carlton Ratings and Reviews
Overall a great dining experience. Only problem was one dish had braised Brussel sprouts on the side that were tough and inedible. Should have been parboiled. Restaurant made up for this deficiency, so no big deal. I would highly recommend for a quiet casual dinner without going overboard at the Ritz.
Overpriced and underwhelming. Waitstaff was just odd, commenting how he disliked weekends and the food was just ho hum. Seemed like they were relying on the location to carry them. The chowder seemed like it came from a food service, the lobster roll was tiny, over salted and charred. And the wine was ridicously overpriced. Although we were on the patio there was no view of the the ocean. Not a Ritzy experience at all :(
Thanksgiving buffet was excellent with lots of delicious choices. We always enjoy having Thanksgiving at Coast when they are serving their special holiday buffet. My only complaint as a somewhat disabled person is that the dining chairs are very heavy and the arms are too low to enable me to push myself up. My husband had to help me out of the chair each time I visited the buffet.
It was my wife's birthday, so we decided to celebrate it at Coast. We stuck with five appetizers and did a "tapas" like dinner. I don't like (or at least didn't like) beets ... this appetizer was AMAZING. Chowder and shrimp cocktail were good. I found the Wedge salad to be dry. Ok, but not the best I have had. They did a nice birthday surprise of sweets for the wife. The flourless chocolate cake was also fantastic. The wine select is expansive. Overall, Good +, but we will try other places before going back.
Coast is the casual dining option at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island Resort. Technically hotel food.
We had two meals there. Dinner one evening and breakfast the next morning. For dinner my wife had their Scallop dish. I had the Shrimp Scampi. We found both to be fresh and very well prepared. At breakfast, my wife had short ribs and grits and I had a more routine egg/sausage/ hash brown breakfast. Again very well done. The rib/grits meal was particularly enjoyed by the wife for its flavor
and overall appeal. I found the hash browns (more casserole-ish than fried) to be really outstanding.
I'd sum up my review of Coast to be well prepared foods with attentive service in a very nice atmosphere. Prices are a bit high, but consider your location.
I'd dine there again without hesitation and recommend Coast highly.
We were here for a few days and tried most everything and it was all good! The lobster rolls are delicious! We ordered them twice. You may not be inclined to order a burger at Coast because of all the seafood options.....but believe me when I say, BEST BURGER I'VE EVER HAD.
The Coast was a great alternative to "fine dining" as we had just deplaned and were touring the Amelia Island area. Were seated right away with no reservations (on a Friday evening!) and the red snapper special was great. Portion size was such that we (light-eaters) should have shared the meal - although we did share the dessert. I must say the dessert was not "worth the calories" to us - but the wine selection more than made up for it. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant, and would re-visit if we're back near the Ritz-Carlton at dinner-time.
Overall a very good experience. However, even after three reminders from open table, the Ritz called right during Easter morning services to confirm reservation.... really. It was annoying. The menu is limited but was very good. We very much enjoyed the seafood chowder, and the veggie burger. Pastrami was ok. Excellent venue, but pricey.
Although we had been expecting the customary Easter brunch, that was not served. However, the restaurant called in advance and told us that it would be the regular lunch menu and gave us the option to cancel. We have had the lunch menu and were perfectly happy to take our out of town guests to that.
As always with the Ritz, service and food were superb. It was a little noisy, but we had chosen to eat outdoors so accepted that.
We visited Coast last night (not staying at the resort) and were generally disappointed. The staff was lovely, as always - but service was slow and the fresh catch special was not special at all.
My husband and I both ordered the Mediterranean kale salad and fresh catch of the day (grilled grouper) with yellow jasmine rice. The salad was delicious - beautifully presented with fresh, flavorful ingredients. The entree, however, is where things fell apart. While it was nicely presented and tasted okay, the rice was cooked to mush (it wasn't risotto) and the fish was just odd. I'm guessing they ran out of fresh and substituted frozen because it was spongy and tough. We've had lots of fresh grouper but it's the first time we've ever had to cut it with a knife. It was really unappealing, and coupled with extraordinarily overpriced wine ($64 for a bottle of Meomi that we get for $17.99 at our local Kroger) we were turned off.
We probably should have mentioned it, but they were so busy that the manager never stopped by and our server was already frazzled - and we had already been there for an hour and a half so we just left.
Overall, if you're not staying at the hotel don't bother with Coast - there's much better fresh seafood on the island.
