Great place to meet my friends and catch up. The food was ok not 5 stars. We had the lobster roll and the bread was too big for the lobster which is only cut part way to make the filling look bigger than what it is. Fries were cold by the time we got them. Service is 5 stars and the location is also 5 stars.

For an enjoyable lunch outdoors along the Santa Monica beach coast, consider Coast Cafe. I dined on their Fish and Chips and found the fish to be terrific and the fries too skinny and cold. We were attended to frequently in order to get our food orders in and the refreshments and food was delivered rather quickly. The process of getting the bill and then getting it picked up for credit card processing was a bit too lengthy as the lunch hour in the work day is one of back to back appointments and that was an unfortunate delay. The prices reflect the location and connection to a hotel, a bit higher than other food establishments but not too terrible.

We had the Lobster rolls and both of us loved it. Also, the fried calamari was good too. I had the Shutter Sprintz drink, and I really liked it. The ambiance was perfect on a gorgeous Southern California day overlooking Santa Monica Beach - which you pay for. Prices are high, but if you want to treat yourself and the weather is good, sit on the patio.

Dinner was excellent. We order one meal gluten free, it was seafood pasta and it was AMAZING!!! We will go again before we leave Santa Monica.

We waited nearly 10 minutes for the hostess to come over and help us. I realized she was setting up cakes while over 8 people were waiting to be seated. Once seated our waiter took nearly 20 minutes to cover the first time. Outside of that, the food, location and ambience are fantastic.

The setting was great and service good on the outside terrace. However, two guests who had the club sandwich said that the bacon was very hard and well done. Also, when making the reservation I made note of a guest's birthday, however, nothing was mentioned by the restaurant or server.

The salad I had was basically just adequate and not worth the $29 price tag. The wait staff asked us four times if we wanted cocktails, to the point where it felt like they were pushing them on us. My friend has a true gluten allergy, and the waiter seemed unprepared and slightly annoyed by any requests and questions that we had.

A lovely dinner at Coast. The Burrata is amazing, make sure to order the Cristal bread as well. The dishes we tried: oysters, seafood linguini, seasonal grilled fish (sea bass), and steak frites - all were really good! Desserts are a must - butterscotch pudding, carrot cake and red velvet cake - all three excellent. The setting is beautiful, staff are excellent, our server, Luis, went above and beyond. Good wine list and very good non alcoholic drinks - try the cool as a cucumber, it will not disappoint.

We are frequent guests at Shutters and have been known to have three meals a day at Coast! Generally we do at least breakfast - it’s very family friendly so we often invite the kids and grandkids who live locally and have a blast. We had dinner there this time too and we’re very impressed with the menu - some new items including some vegan options and all very well prepared. We prefer to sit inside or on the covered patio as it’s a little too exposed on the new “boardwalk” seating but its clearly very popular . Highly recommend the two flatbreads and rotisserie chicken as well as the burrata and the artichoke salads . The fish special was a bit skimpy on the portions but tasty.

The quality of food has gone down drastically. Eggs came to the table cold , hamburger was terrible! Paying $200. For bad breakfast plus $14.00 parking is way too much ! However, the location is fantastic but recently every time I have gone I have been disappointed. Time to find a new place , service is also not what it should be .

A lovely day for lunch with a friend! We had a nice quiet table with a pleasant view. James, our server, was excellent. The French fries were amazing and our entrees were nicely prepared and presented. I have stayed at Shutters in the past and dined there, as well. Will return!!

I was very disappointed with my experience. Booked for my birthday and to mark the end of a family holiday in California. The food was fine but vastly overpriced for what it is. The table setting had nothing to set it apart from a normal diner. Our food was basically thrown at us. We ordered a Manhattan to start with and we’re charged extra for Bourbon we hadn’t specified, neither had the bar staff checked with us. I had been so excited to visit Shutters on the Beach - one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever had with this sort of thing.

The only problem we had was that one of the hostesses told me there was no outside seating, even though I had made the reservation weeks in advance and made that request in writing. (I live one mile away.) Luckily, after a while the second hostess came and said she saw the reservation and that there was a table for us. We were led to the outside table and they put up the umbrella for shade. This was a celebration for my friend's 94th birthday, so I'm glad one of the hostesses saved the day. That is the reason I took off one star. Too much hassle at the start.

Fabulous service. Lovely dining room with ocean view. Food was fine but overpriced. $18 for average french fries. Lunch for 2 incl tip was $200. Fortunately it was a special occasion, so the ambiance was great.

Love San Juan Capistrano and Coast is directly across from the old mission. A bit loud/busy but that’s expected here. Service was excellent and food was amazing. A bit below “fine dining” but cost reflects this. Would definitely go back. Swallows Inn almost next door for a fun post date drink!
