About Permanently Closed - Coal Vines
This restaurant is permanently closed. Coal Vines is a casual neighborhood restaurant that brings a piece of New York City to Kansas City's beautiful Country Club Plaza. As a specialty pizza and wine restaurant, Coal Vines is known for its coal fired oven pizza but is also complemented by a full menu and a wine list that is synonymous with quality, at a reasonable price point. We offer a simple menu of seafood, pastas, appetizers and fresh salads in addition to our New York style pizzas. The casual elegance of the restaurant is enhanced by great music and an energetic dining area. A Sunday Brunch is also offered and has quickly become a favorite brunch spot in Kansas City. The patio and open-air dining make this a popular nice-weather dining restaurant and the candle-lit bar and dining room keep the restaurant cozy during the colder weather. The popular Coal Vines Weekday Winedown (Monday-Friday 3:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m.) offers select glasses of wine for $5.

Coal Vines - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We first went to Coal Vines for Valentine's Day and had their Valentine Special that was great. Went back almost two weeks later and we were greeted like old friends by the manager and the same waiter we had on Valentine's Day. We had a meatball appetizer, Cesar salad and salmon. Just a really great experience and look forward to going back again. The pizza looks fantastic and I can't wait to try it.
Go for pizza or drinks. Avoid everything else. Stopped in on a Sunday night and the place was almost dead. Despite this. A roasted chicken came out nearly raw after 20 minutes. Fortunate that I did not fall ill due to this ridiculous mistake. In hindsight, the waitress I believe was giving me a heads up by saying "the kitchen is a little behind tonight," again despite it being dead. I might give this place another shot, but with the plethora of good pizza places within 2 mile radius, it may be a while.
All happy hour wines were "out of stock". We came for happy hour and were told "there are lots of wines that aren't on happy hour available ". So we just didn't get any alcohol. Overall food and service was great but pricey. Shouldn't advertise happy hour when everything is out of stock.
As always, Coal Vines delivered with its tasty pizza and great wine selection. We're big fans of the lower lights and cozy atmosphere with windows lining half the restaurant. This place never seems to disappoint. We'll keep going back until they prove otherwise.
The food and service here was really good, i would definitely recommend this place if anyone wants some good pizza. Only thing I didn't like, was it was my birthday and my friend made me cupcakes. She asked if she could bring them in for all my friends to share and eat, and they told her it would be $20 to do so...for what Im not sure. That doesn't make sense to charge that just to eat cupcakes.
The food was great and so was the staff. We had a reservation and easily got seated right when we showed up. The waiter asked if it was our first time and made sure to explain the menu and all of our options. We got the Fennel Crusted Salmon and Tortellini with Scallops. The salmon was slightly under seasoned, but overall the food was delicious! I would definitely go back and try their pizza.
We were first-timers celebrating a December graduate--food was great, ambiance very pleasant, our server very patient! Can't beat the Plaza in December for making memories and we were very pleased to find affordable dining at a restaurant that takes reservations!
