Clyde's of Gallery Place Ratings and Reviews
We were at our table for a half hour before we were given a second opportunity to order (our party was not complete when we were seated and we were first asked if we wanted to order, but then the waiter never came back!). Then it took another 15 minutes once we FINALLY got to order our drinks before we could order our food. It was relatively late (8:30) and the restaurant was not that busy. There was really no reason for the slow service. It was made worse by the fact that our waiter was unapologetic.
This is fairly unusual for Clyde's, but I was not pleased. As always though, the food was good.
I don't normally eat at corporate restaurants, but I was very impressed with Clyde's. The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. We ordered the trout, filet mignon and crab cake dinners with apps, and everybody like what they got. It was a fantastic night all around. If you are going to an event at the Verizon Center, Clyde's is a perfect way to begin the evening. You only have to park once and it is a very short walk. Clyde's will now be my go-to place anytime I am going to the Verizon Center and want to have dinner first.
Clyde's is a solid restaurant for a working lunch. Tables are spacious, the restaurant is large enough not to feel crowded even when it is, and the service is good. You can get everything from a simple sandwich to a expensive steak, so it offers something for everyone. It's not truly gourmet, but the food works.
Fantastic brunch as always! I'm always a fan of the quiche offerings, and the spinach-cheddar-onion-mushroom quiche did not disappoint. And the pumpkin fritters were FANTASTIC. I wish they were on the menu year-round -- lots of pumpkin, not much filler (just like their crab cakes),and the perfect blend of sweet and savory with a dusting of powdered sugar and honey drizzle. Definitely a must-eat.
The service was not the best beginning with the balcony hostess and ending with the overwhelmed waiter. The food lacked flavor which was very surprising. The ambiance was enjoyable. I would recommend as more of a place to enjoy a nice drink amongst friends.
Our waiter was good but the two waiters that brought out the food had everyone's meal to the wrong person. Not a big deal.
The presentation wasn't great with the crab cake - it came on a plate plain with the salad and fruit on two other separate plates. Could have been done a little more creative.
Food was great, as always!
Clyde's Restaurants are on the decline. At this point are little better than restaurants attached to budget hotels.
At Gallery Place a bottle of wine was presented from a later vintage without notifying us they didn't even have the wine on their wine list. I'm certain if they'd presented a different, more expensive bottle from their wine list and we'd approved, we'd have been charged. That is totally unacceptable.
Food these days seems to be pre-prepared, frozen then cooked to order, a la Applebees.
The decor at Tyson's is just dumpy with torn upholstry and outdated appiontments. The Gallery Place location is run down. They don't even bother to keep the tables varnished.
I won't be goinging back. It's just awful.
I usually love coming to Clyde's and tend to make my reservations well in advance when I am going to be in the Gallery Place area. The food was delicious as usual, but I was a bit disappointed with the service. I made a reservation for 6 so my friends and I could have dinner after going to the movies. The server was reluctant to split our check (I have never had this problem at Clyde's before) and was slow with service and with clearing our table. I understand that Saturday night is a busy night at Clyde's, but I have never received such a low level of service. It made me consider whether I need to find another place for dinner in the Gallery Place area.
My girlfriend and I dined here with my parents. It was a wonderful location. Dad loved the Jambalaya. My girlfriend and mother each had a 5 oz grilled filet mignon and they loved them. I had the Trout Parmesan - wow, that was great. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the trout - very big - and would have been happy with somewhat less. The wines were great, and so was the bread and the deserts.
I really liked my dining experience. The restaurant was able to seat us on time. The food was delivered on time and it was really delicious. The crabcakes were the delight of the meal. This is a place to havea great meal for business or to invite friends and relatives in town for sightseeing.
My mother and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at Clyde's. As always, the food was lovingly prepared and the wait staff couldn't have been more agreeable. While there's nothing extraordinary about Clyde's, it's always been our default for a consistently enjoyable dining experience.
Fantastic as always! We both had the Roast Turkey Sandwich -- sounds so simple, but the real carvery turkey provided the perfect base for the unmatched balsamic caramelized onions. We love that you keep the Roast Turkey Sandwich on the menu, but change up the accompanying ingredients every 2 weeks. A classic that keeps changing, along with the rest of the menu that changes every week or two. That's why we keep coming back -- keep up the great work!
The restaurant is truly beautiful. It is a mid-cost restaurant with plenty of options and a friendly staff -- except for the girl at the hostess station just inside the door. Make a reservation here on OpenTable and you will breeze by the small crowd to the upstairs where the 2nd hostess is friendly and fun.
We had a variety of dishes and everything was delightful. The deserts were amazing; they also had some seasonal selections.
I would go back in a heartbeat.
I had made reservations thru OpenTable to celebrate my husband's birthday and requested a specific table - which we didn't get. We specifically chose Clyde's because of the Maine lobster special they were running. It was advertised as *1 1/4 lbs. We've lived in Maine and both our lobsters were closer to 3/4 lb. each - very disappointing!!! Smallest lobsters I've ever seen served at a restaurant! They got my substitution of mashed potatoes instead of the french fries wrong - and then didn't bother to tell me there was an extra charge to do so! Table was located in a very noisy area - which is why I had requested the other table as it was more private. Overall, very disappointing evening at Clyde's Gallery Place!
On a wild and hectic day, when the city was packed, the Metro nearly unnavigable, Clyde's was a welcome respite. Our reservation allowed us to bypass the line and our table was waiting. Service was a bit slow but that was understandable. Food was terrific, as usual. We enjoyed a fine meal and were able to unwind at the end of a crazy day. Clyde's was the best thing that happened to us on Sarurday!
We love Clyde's at Gallery Place/Chinatown. The building and decor are wonderful. Even though the place was packed due to events on the Mall that day, we were seated on time, received excellent service and everyone loved their food. We were entertaining first-time visitors from out of town and Clyde's didn't fail us on any level.
With reservations, the ability to be seated was quick and seamless. There were hugh crowds thanks to a rally in DC that day, but we were assisted quickly and effiecntly.
The server, while personable, had a booming voice that could easily make one think he was hurried, but could have been the effect of the loud patrons associated with the aforementioned rally. The food was excellent.
We have been to Clyde's of Gallery Place two times (for an event at the Verizon Center). Both times were great. We made reservations (strongly recommend that option) and were seated promptly. Our food came out quickly and was delicious. When we go back to DC next year for the same event (Washington International Horse Show), we will certainly make Clyde's part of the trip.
Everything was great. The reservation was easy to make through OpenTable and we were so happy to have it on a crazy (sanity/fear rally) day in Downtown DC. We had no problems checking in and even arrived with two extra people, which they handled with good cheer. The service at our table was cheerful and friendly, not the most attentive, but not something that bothered us too much. The restaurant was crazy busy and we probably didn't need another beer anyway. It was the perfect place to meet up with family members, from teens to middle age, and the menu was varied enough to accommodate a range of tastes, from liver/onions to falafel/pita.
