Clyde's of Gallery Place Ratings and Reviews
We had a pretty terrible experience today with the service. A restaurant located next to the arena should be able to accommodate folks who want to get a quick bite before a show. Today they opened at 11am - we ordered by 11:05 and it took an hour to get our food. At least 7 to 10 other tables around us had to get up and leave before getting serviced. When there are daytime events at the arena, recommend getting the kitchen set up a little earlier. Such a disappointing experience.
Overall, the experience was great; however, our water glasses were always empty, our server was never to be found, and when an item (e.g., a dessert menu) was asked for, it took an exceptionally long time to get it. We finally grabbed a nearby water picture and kept it at our table. Maybe you were short staffed?
Our server was very average. The staff who delivered the food really have their act together and we’re quite frankly more professional than our server. The music was awesome the atmosphere was great the food was of great value compared to other DC restaurants.
We were a table of four, ordering drinks, appetizers, and dinner. Our drinks and appetizers came right away and were delicious. We then had to wait 45-60 minutes until our dinners arrived. We were told that they had just switched software and that it was causing long delays in food arriving. Thankfully, we were not in a rush, but the delay was ridiculous. The food was very good once it arrived.
My wife and I were celebrating the anniversary of our first date (which was actually at Clyde's) and also the anniversary date of our engagement (on the same date, February 15th). These are both very special occasions for us, so we thought we'd return to where and when it all started and we were very happy with everything! We'll be certain to return again soon! The easy metro access this time made it easy for us to avoid traffic and just enjoy our evening together... Our thanks Clyde's and their staff for making our anniversary so special...
Restaurant atmosphere and food were excellent. Service was slow, appetizers never arrived before main course, and Open Table questioned why we missed our reservation, which was not the case. It was Valentines Day and the restaurant was crowded, but even with that taken into account, the service could have been much better.
Went there for a date the day before Valentine's Day. Half price wine bottles with a great selection. Large menu with something for everyone. Got the Sirloin and Stuffed Acorn Squash, which were great. Topped it off with their Gingerbread Pudding which was a unique and tasty dessert. Wonderful ambiance, wonderful service, and an overall wonderful restaurant.
We were meeting a friend - and wanted a menu that covered a lot of different tastes - and easy for her to find. Clydes fit the bill. Also needed a place to park without a far walk for one of us - parked in the garage under so did not even need to get out in the rain.
Our server was fantastic - he was patient while we waited for the rest of our party - and very helpful. The server was hit with a large party and it took him awhile to bring another beer - and he could not stop apologizing!! He did the same later.
The food was delicious - the Shrimp Fra Diavlo (sp) had 8 huge gulf shrimp that were amazing. Two had crab cakes that were also declared delicious. The fish and chips could have had another piece of fish - but was tasty.
No reason to seat a group of 3 to be surrounded by 3 tables of 5 people which are only designed to seat 4. Noise level ruins the meal.
The steak was not tough but was very difficult to cut. Maybe the restaurant needs new knives. Beer battered onion rings should have an onion flavor too, not just a batter flavor.
The restaurant was starting to get busy when we arrived. The host forgot to give my 2 kids crayons (but gave them kids menus). When my daughter asked for bread from our waitress she was told "I'll get to it soon". We used to get a pitcher of water and basket of bread for the table automatically by a bus boy or runner. In fact, I needed to ask for a second glass of water for both my husband and I. Mid way through our dinner the waitress changed her attitude and provided better service.
I had wanted a crab cake sandwich for dinner (like I always get at Clyde's restaurants). It was listed in small print under the crab cake entree and did not mention that it came with french fries and cole slaw. Honestly, the crab cake at Tower Oaks is much better (Crab is in bigger chunks and not stringy).
My husband had to send back his medium rare bacon cheeseburger because it was cooked medium well. When it came back, it had no bacon and was still medium well.
As a family we like to go to the Clyde's restaurants because the food and service is usually the same across the board. Next time we are in downtown DC for a game or event, we will probably look to go somewhere else and just continue to go to Tower Oaks near home.
My son is on a very special diet and they were super attentive and the chef came out and spoke with us. He allowed us to weigh the food and was super patient and understanding of our situation. The manager and server were all phenominal. We were so very thankful that they made our son's dining experience a normal one. GREAT JOB! We will be back.
We love to go to Clyde's with our young boys before a Washington Capitals game. Besides the location being convenient to the arena and the metro stops, the food is delicious. Unfortunately, the metro had us delayed by 20 minutes BUT the great folks at the host stand welcomed us and had a table ready in the bar area....a request I made, this way no one hears the boys if they are LOUD! We will be back and THANK YOU for a great start to a fun evening.
Good food and good service. They forgot our appetizer but offered to make up for it with free dessert. Some of the portions are small for the price (steak). Sometimes we get bread before meal but this time we did not. Our waitress apologized and was very kind, but it was clear she was in the weeds. Busy night w/ game next door.
Went for an early dinner before a Wizards game. The architecture of this place is fantastic. Waiter was great. Calamari and crab soup are solid. The fried chicken with the Mumbo sauce is quite good. Don't bother with the beef stew - too salty and boring. Good selection of draft beers.
Really great experience at Clyde’s. This was my first time eating here and I made the reservations for 6pm before a wizards game. Good beer list, great wings, sliders can’t be beat. There was an issue with a tap being low and the beer tasting like water and the waitress immediately got my dad a new beer and apologized. They let us stay for almost two hours without rushing us when we explained we were there for the 8pm game. I would def recommend this place again based on food, atmosphere, and waitstaff, but especially if it was pre-game/event at the Verizon center.
I dined at Clyde’s with some colleagues from outside the US before a Caps game. Clyde’s is a great location if your going to an event at the Capital One Arena. The food was good and there is a good pre game atmosphere at Clydes’s. The only issue we had was the service was so fast we felt like we were being rushed out. We had appetizers and most of us had salads. The salads came out shortly after the appetizers and we barely touched our salads when the entrees. Arrived. This was very annoying, especially for my cooleagues from outside the US. We were out of Clyde’s in less then an hour having had a drink, appetizers, salad and entree. Unfortunately we did not have room for a desert as we ended up leaving Clyde’s before the doors opened for the Caps game.
Perhaps Clyde’s was trying to turn tables pre game, if so this definately was not appreciated. My wife and I have dined at the Clyde’s before having a much better experience.
Wonderful service, food was delicious. Only complaint was a large (and therefore loud) party was seated next to my friend and I who were trying to have a "catch up" conversation after not seeing each other for several months. Fortunately, that was near the end of our meal, so we had a mostly quiet time where we could hear each other.
