Clyde's of Columbia Ratings and Reviews
We have tried Clyde's several times over the years, usually to have the lobster. Now it is on the daily menu, a great plus. We have wondered, though, if they cook the lobsters ahead of time and just heat them up, as the shells are much harder than home-prepared. There has also been wide variability in how good they are. This time, they were quite good, although smaller than expected. Still better for ambiance than the typical crab shack places. Give it a try!
Our server didn’t come to our table to greet us for about 15 minutes. Once she did, she brought us water and didn’t ask if wanted anything else to drink. While waiting for the rest of our party, we eventually got to order our drinks, and they took about 20 mins to get. You could tell they were sitting at the bar because it had glasssweat on the glasses. Once we received our apps, we asked for bleu cheese two times and never received it. Our server walked by or table multiple times and never asked if we wanted more cocktails or to replenish our waters. We finally got new cocktail orders in and received those drinks 20 mins later. Once food was delivered, our server never came to check on how it was. The fried in three of our plates were little fries where we could tell it was end of the fryer fries. There was hair in one of the girls crab cakes. When t was brought to the managers attention, Ashe took the the one meal off and a round of drinks but never came back to see how we were the rest of the night. Good place for lunch when it isn’t busy, but you can tell their servers need a little more work and management needs to be on the floor more talking to tables. Our server had too much going on and it wasn’t her fault it was the managements fault for not recognizing it ahead of time!
I don't know what has happened to Clyde's. It was always one of my favorite restaurants in Columbia. The menu is downsized quite a bit from the past, and the taste of the food is now way below par. Maybe it was an off night (Tuesday), but my business guests were very disappointed with the meal. I will be hard pressed to return at this point.
Met family for lunch. They live in DC and I live in Baltimore - so this is a good central location. The food was fine - nothing spectacular but it's always consistently good. I simply had a Caesar salad and the chicken and chorizo soup. Hard to mess that up. Lol. The service was OK but we had to reach out a couple of times. Still it's a great, safe place to eat.
First time. When seated for about 10 minutes we finally had to ask to see a waiter. When he showed up finally he forgot to get us bread after taking our order. We had to ask again a waiter passing by. Food delivery was good by others. My wife asked for extra sauce for her crab cake. This took forever and came when she was finished eating. It was a frustrating restaurant experience.
Food was fantastic, but I think the waitress forgot about us. She put in our appetizer order which we received, then finished, and the waited a while before she came back to take our entree order. Other than that everything was fantastic. We will definitely dine here again.
It was my husband's birthday and we were looking forward to a great meal. The service was great but the food was average. We were told that the menu changed two weeks prior to our visit, and not for the better. Our teen daughter was happy with her hamburger and fries. My husband order the swordfish with green beans. The fish was bland and the beans slightly undercooked for his liking. I was disappointed that I couldn't have my favorite dish, the brick chicken. However, the mojo chicken was ok, but was a small serving for the price. Unfortunately, It was not the experience we were looking for.
We had dinner at Clyde's on Saturday evening before the Alison Krauss Merriweather concert and it was really wonderful. The food was great and we paired it with a nice red wine and thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was also great and the view out on to the lake was really nice. We had a great time and the service was impeccable. We're looking forward to dining there again in the near future. Thanks again very much.
We were escorted to our table by a very professional and courteous young woman. Our server, Timothy, was very friendly, attentive, knowledgable, helpful, accomodating and professional. We enjoyed his company very much. The food was very delicious. We took our mother out for a treat and had a wonderful evening. Other wait staff I encountered were also very friendly and courteous. The bread was delicious! It was a bit difficult to hear conversation at the table but that was a small price to pay for everything else going so well. Thank you again and special thanks to Timothy!
We went for the lobster special. This year the basket of fries is now reduced to a small bread plate of fries. Very disappointed that my fries came out after I finished my lobster. My daughter ordered wings and we noticed a strand of human hair on the top of her wings before they even made it to the table. They were quickly replaced. Would have been nice to receive an apology from management.
Celebrating a milestone in a friends' career. Waiter was pleasant and accommodating. Provided a special dessert for friend in honor of milestone. Somewhat loud but it was Friday night and lots of folks dining. Noise volume somewhat expected.
Food always good and pleasing presentations.
I met my friend at the restaurant. She had been seated. The young women at the front desk were not interested in helping me find her. One of them pointed in FOUR different directions and expected me to look for our table. So I did. infuriated with this hostess. made NO effort to help me. Small table with view out window very nice. I do feel as if we were seated in this location because the server was new and also feel some age discrimination -- mediocre seating and new server. After our food was ordered and delivered, we never saw him again. I would have ordered another cocktail and dessert. It was clear he was no where to be found. He lost out on a larger check with a larger tip. The hostesses need major improvement and we did chat with the manager and he was generous to give us both a card for our next visit with price discount. I can't decide if I was most furious with the hostesses or the server. Probably equal.
