Clyde's of Chevy Chase
We enjoyed our dinner. We had to flag down our waitress several times.
Our 5-yr-old granddaughter was thrilled to celebrate her birthday here! We checked in and the host wished her a Happy 5th and took us to us to a table where she could see the train. They had a great children’s placemat and menu with crayons. The food is always consistent and good for a Washington Restaurant Chain that’s been around a LONG time. We had a good waiter who did his best to keep up with a busy Saturday night crowd. They brought our granddaughter a complimentary warm brownie/vanilla ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce complete with lighted candle. It was plenty for the three of us! I would recommend this restaurant for all ages and all occasions. You can count on a legend!
We had to wait for a table to be cleared when it looked liked the restaurant was fairly empty.
Sadly the service was not what I expected of Clyde’s. It took a long time to get drinks and then dinner. And our dishes were not cleared when we finished eating.
My local and reliable restaurant.
First time in a while the service was off and food was not hot.
Clyde's of Chevy Chase is my go-to restaurant when I want to treat personal friends or business associates to a wonderful meal in a comfortable atmosphere. From the minute I arrived, the service was tailored to make me feel right at home. The menu is varied and the food is absolutely delicious. Our server gave us enough attention to fulfill all our needs, and discreetly disappeared so we could discuss business matters without being disturbed.
Thank you for providing just the right place to relax and enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. I'll be back.
Great place for a causal meal. Definitely on the list to come again.
Enjoyed dining outside - beautiful evening! Service was not as good as we've had in the past, but understand the server had a large, busy area to take care of.
Food was GREAT and our server was THE BOMB!!! Excellent service!!!
Brendan, our server, could not have been more accommodating. The food was very good - up to typical Clyde's standards. And the band downstairs, Moxie Blues Band, added a nice finish to the evening.
Sat on the newly expanded patio, which was lovely. The lobster special was delicious, and the fried potatoes were nice and crisp.
The server, Rose G. was efficient, competent and delightful. The lobster I ordered was delicious. The ambience was fine except for a brief problem with the screaming of an out of control child at the next table. This, of course, was not the restaurant’s fault. In summary, I enjoyed my dinner and look forward to returning soon.
The best bangs for the buck in the DC area. My date took advantage of the whole lobster special and a dozen oysters. I had the seasonal salad and the Lamb Giro sandwich. Both entrees came with excellent French fries. Dessert was a great apple crisp and two espressos. The food is top notch, the service was timely and considerate. Looking forward to another visit and another fine dining experience!
Went there for the seasonal lobster special. At just $21.95, we got a very tasty 1.25 lb steamed Maine lobster, fries and coleslaw, all done right. What's not to like!
They did not have my reservation, but they did have a poor attitude. Ordered meal plus takeout. The takeout came too soon and was spoiled by the time the meal was over. Come slaw and Cran ales should not be sitting out that long. The worst value. So unlike Tower Oaks where you feel welcome and appreciated.
A total waste of money. Server was okay but never to be seen once the meal arrived. Such s disappointment
Always a good standby. Yesterday's lunch was on the so-so side, which isn't usually the case. "Jumbo" lump crab cake wasn't terribly lumpy and was small, especially when listed as jumbo and costing $20. OTOH, they gladly provided off-menu bacon and eggs to my friend. Never a really bad experience here. And the low noise level, increasingly rare, is a huge plus.
Restaurant honored request for window table made through open table. Food and service were very good. Only complaint is they served warm water and we had to make a special request for ice to add to the warm water. This was the first time that happened so we’ll give them a one time pass.
The liver was delicious and the service very good.
My guest and I were able to have a nice visit once we moved to a different table.
we have always been a fan of this clyde's but sasw a definite downturn in food quality. The service was excellent and the ambience remains excellent. The quality of the crab cake was poor- the crab tasted and looked warmed over and there seemed to be filler in the crab cake. Also disappointing was the quality of the dessert. The apple crumble used to be outstanding. This time the crumble was not crisp or crunchy- rather it was soggy and doughy. The only positive thing was the excellent server. We hope this was just a down day in the kitchen and that Clyde's cuisine will return to its excellent level.
Tasty meals combined with friendly service and a fun early 20th century travel-inspired decor make for a pleasant dining experience - even if we were seated between ship models of an ocean liner that burned and capsized (the Normandie) and one that sank (the Andrea Doria). Luckily, no such tragedies befell our brunch.
They didn't have enough staff. Food and wine are always reliable and reasonably priced. We love sitting outside.
When I had host tell me to walk straight back and my friend was on the right, I was shocked. There was no showing me to the table. The server was very inexperienced. Our salmon burgers fell apart. My fruit bowl contained peaches that we as hard as the pit. The profiteroles were hard and impossible to cut. For a birthday lunch, this was a major disappointment. I will not be returning with so many wonderful options available.
Other than the long wait between ordering and receiving our dinners, everything was fine.
Caesar salad was extremely watery.. no taste! The crab soup was nice and hot.... bread was ok...
Excellent in every way.
Ambiance very good, service was fast and friendly and food fantastic. Prices reasonable for what you get.
Delicious food at a fair price. Attentive server. Good for family dinner
My mother loves Clyde’s and it was a celebration dinner. We have had slow service at Clyde’s before and overlooked it. But after the wine wasn’t delivered, my sisters food was cold and my moms tea glass sat empty, well it just started to dampen the mood.
On a busy Friday, our server was hustling to accommodate several tables that turned over at the same time. The manager slipped in seamlessly to assist, neatly alleviating the situation. The assist was done so neatly that is was impressive to this long time restaurant patron. I was impressed at the way it was handled. We expect good service at a Clyde's location, but this was so beautifully executed that it merits attention.
My wife and I grazed, working our way through several appetizers and some wonderful fresh oysters. An unusual but delightful French Petit Verdot paired nicely with our eclectic choices.
It was good overall was a bit disappointing with chicken pot pie and peach crisp they were both soupy
Clyde's is one of our favorite restaurants. It serves great food with excellent service.
This is the place to go for a traditional Washington dinner. Good menu, reasonable prices with a light, inviting atmosphere. My server recommended the crispy chicken and she was right. Delicious and plentiful.
Never disappoints consistently great.. Thanks for your excellent restaurant. Hope the new owners will continue the excellent food and service.
Nothing special, just lunch. But, as usual, everything was excellent. Fish tacos, salmon salad, gazpacho. Being able to converse without having to shout is rare in restaurants these days and, by itself, is good reason to return.
Poor service this time around, mainly because we had a trainee server who it seemed was not adequately supervised. No bread for 20 minutes, then foul-ups with what really was a simple request (salad with no dressing). The server was very apologetic, to her credit. The food was dependable, as always.
I particularly prefer brunch. Due to my fish/seafood allergies it has the best offerings for me.
Another great experience with Clyde's of Chevy Chase.
We have been going to many of the Clyde’s since the restaurants first opened and have been pleased with the ambiance, food quality, preparation, and presentation, and also the fine service. However, our recent experience at the Chevy Chase Clyde’s was a disaster. We were a party of four and only three dinners were delivered – one was lukewarm at best. The waiter was notified more than once that my dinner never came and, finally, we asked for the manager. After more time, my dinner came to the table. The wonderful recipe for the crab cake at Tower Oaks Clyde’s was altered and, instead of lump crab meat, the patty had thin shreds of crab and filler and the top was burned. The three diners had finished their dinners when mine was finally delivered. The Chevy Chase Clyde’s must address these issues so that it is consistent with the other Clyde’s restaurants.
