OpenTable Diner (Washington DC)

I like Clyde's; I really do. However, in the past few years things have been sliding slowly downhill.
The food and drinks are still good. I've noticed what seems to be fewer & fewer risks with menu items, but that's okay. There is still variety enough for me. Less care does seem to go into some of the basics - the calamari was extremely salty tonight, and the table water tasted like room-temp unfiltered tap.
The bathroom (men's) is atrocious. The toilet seats are all wobbly. Ceiling tiles are damaged, and the Muzak speaker is cover-less. The place seems stuck in yesteryear, as there are no automatic flushers, and no paper seat covers. Soap "dispensers" are actually store-bought liquid pumps. The only two major good things are that the paper towels are thick, soft, and strong, and the water gets hot.
The hosts and waitstaff are among the better parts of the experience. Unlike some places where 3 different servers will spout the same "favorites," at Clyde's in Chevy Chase, they always seem to speak from their own experience. And they are helpful - I got something in my eye, and my waiter quickly ran off to see if someone had eyedrops I could use! That's a large part of a really good experience. I only would suggest that waiters with the occasional sneeze washed /sanitized their hands.

All in all, Clyde's is still a good place to go. But if the slide continues, eventually regulars will slowly find other places to go.

Thanks for your attention.

I’ve been coming to Clyde’s for years, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the increase in vegetarian options and more international flavors. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was super kind and efficient, as usual.

We were there celebrating a birthday and once we were seated one of the napkins on the table had a dead bug on it. Of course we asked for new silverware. I ordered the Monday's special which was Prime Rib, medium well, it came out more uncooked than I was expecting medium well to be. I did ask before ordering what was Clyde's "medium well" and was told a little pink, well my steak was bleeding. I cut and ate a few pieces that was all fat so I placed them on the side of the plate and realized the steak was to raw for me. I let my server know that my steak wasn't medium well and gave the steak back for them to prepare me another steak. They actually recooked the same steak and gave it back with the little pieces that I had chewed and placed to the side because it was all fat. They literally recooked those chewed up pieces and put them back on my plate. When I brought this to the attention of the server she told me that my prime rib was the last one so they had no choice but to recook it, at this point I left it alone and just had dinner. I honestly thought that was a bit tacky for a restaurant as classy as Clyde's to have done that without informing me and giving me the option of either recooking the steak or order something else.

This was the first time we used our Open Table rewards in the new system. I miss the paper certificates. Tough getting used to the online redemption. But it worked.

Our server was great, upbeat and efficient. It was a
very busy night. But she and her manager both did great. The Clyde’s Group is consistently outstanding.

Been there twice. First time was very good. Excellent service. Son has food alergies and they were very attentive to this. Their system has a flag on the order for the kitchen to be made aware of the food alergy . Second time, the service was lacking. Very slow. Little attention. Goofed up one diner's order, then, when informed, they goofed up the re-order. Initially, no aknowledgement and no accommodation. When check arrived, was charged for the mistaken order (which was more expensive), rather than the orginal order. Manager immediately fixed this by comping the goofed-up meal for the one diner. In the end, manager was great, but took an long time to get there. Still will go back, though.

The new pasta item, squid ink bucatini with seafood is really good and a nice addition to the menu. Also the chicken tortilla soup is very tasty. With such a large menu, it is usually easy to find something that suits you on any given day.

I still wish they would bring back the crab tower on the appetizer menu. I really miss it and it has been gone for a long time.

Clyde’s is reliably good; gets pretty busy, so arrival at the table of food ordered can be a trifle slow. It’s worth the wait, though!

Quite disappointed with Clydes on Valentine’s Day. I grew up going to Clydes Resturants all over the area and the one thing I could say was there was always great service, from the hosts through dinner. Unfortunately it was quite the opposite. I understand that Valentine’s Day is a busy day, but it seemed that the hosts were more worried about the people who made a stink than the people who were patiently waiting for their seats. We arrived a few minutes early for our 7:15 reservation. They told us they were running a few minutes behind but I understood. Around 7:25 people started arriving for their 7:30 reservations. We still had not been seated. While waiting I watched 4 different couples, who arrived after 7:30, get seated before us because they went to the desk and complained that it was past their reservation time. I understand how busy it can get and we all just want to keep the guests happy. But it was SO FRUSTRATING to watch couple after couple be seated before us, with reservations after us, because they started to make a stink. Finally after 7:50 my husband went to the stand to ask what was going on, and they seated us immediately. If I knew all it took was to go back and make an issue then maybe we would have said something earlier.

When we were being seated we then saw at least 2-3 empty, clean and open tables in each section we passed. Clearly they were understaffed for the night (which I understand because people want to be with their own love on Valentine’s Day). This then added to the frustration because they clearly overbooked their reservations when they did not have enough servers.

Our server had at least 7 tables at one point, and was doing her best to keep up with them all. I can imagine that was an exhausting night.

It was good to see that there were managers out on the floor helping clear plates, check on guests, and bring out whatever was needed. But they clearly missed the mark on getting people seated. Left very disappointed.

Worst experience ever at a Clyde’s location. DO NOT order steak from them. The meat has zero flavor. Wine list was backwards - reds listed under the heading “Whites” and vice versa. Waiter was good but the support staff was ambivalent. This location reeks of poor management.

We had a lovely preValentine dinner at the downstairs Racebar area, which we found to be quiet and cozy. The service was great, but as the bar got busier, our server did his best but was overbooked. I had a delicious filet steak and my husband enjoyed the steak frites. Half price wine night was a great bargain as well!

Food was great but service could have been better. It is clear that the server is not used to having many tables. She could barely keep up. As much as I want to blame her, our experience was clearly a failure in leadership. Maître d'hôtel should have recognized and provided help since three other tables in our section felt the same way.

Clyde's is reliable. The best thing is that wait staff are not coming over every 2 minutes to ask if everything is ok.

Terrible food, and slow service. I ordered the wild catfish sandwich and it was bland and soggy...I sent it back. The manager did come over to apologize and ask what the issue was. He also offered me another dish, and when I told him I didn't have time to wait for something else he said "at least have some soup, I don't want you leaving here hungry." That was an awesome gesture. I had the crab soup, which was pretty good. Besides him, the service was just okay. Our server took a long time to get simple things like straws. My daughter had the burger sliders and she didn't like it, my cousin had a cheeseburger which was okay...she said the bacon made it okay.

Long brunch with a friend I had not seen in years. Our waitress was lovely and gave us the space to have our long brunch without rushing us. Amazing salmon cream cheese, egg and potatoe dish!
