The service was lacking, not because the waiter didn’t try but it seemed like he had a huge area to cover!! Wasn’t fair to him. The parking was also a mess, the valet told us we had to be out by 9, then with the slow service we felt very rushed and on edge.
The day boat scallop dish was delicious! It came with a lemon butter sauce that was light but flavorful. Great combination of seafood with spring vegetables like roasted baby carrots and golden beets. I would order it again. I was disappointed by the dessert. The strawberry rhubarb crisp was a soggy mess. It came in a cup, with the ice cream already on top. There was not enough topping to begin with, and the ice cream had already melted and made the crust goopy and there was no warmth left in the dish. There was too much strawberry-rhubarb filling, and it was pale, mushy and tasteless. Maybe it would have been better served in a shallow brulee dish, with lots more topping, less filling, and the ice cream on the side so it actually lived up to its name of "crisp." I usually like Clyde's desserts but will skip this one in the future. Other than dessert everything including our waiter was lovely.
Food was surprisingly bland, oddly portioned, and not in keeping with the standard of established at original location. Given the above, it also proved overpriced for the end result. N
I highly recommend Clydes of Chevy Chase. We have dined there before. Never any issues Food and staff great. We had a disabled person with us. Very accommodating, helpful and understanding. Atmosphere great. Love the train and ship models
Wide ranging menu, everything I've ever ordered has been very good, excellent staff, moderate prices - a favorite!
Several in our party were disappointed that the menu had just been switched to the summer version which meant the creamy lobster bisque was not available. The lobster bisque has a tomato base for summer. The menu is overpriced but it's a comfortable spot for a lunch with friends and they do validate parking.
I've been going to different Clyde's restaurants since the 70's. This was my first experience at the Chevy Chase location. It's so beautiful. Drinks were good. Food was excellent. I'm a huge fan of hummus and their 3 hummus plate was very good. The pine nut hummus and the harissa hummus were amazing. I didn't love the lemon hummus, but the Caesar salad made up for it.
We were a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed all of their food. The only thing that didn't go over well was the drink 'dark and stormy'. I was told it was way too sweet
We’re relatively regular customers of this location. The food tends to be consistently decent, the menu’s diverse enough for anyone to find something, and the service is usually fine. The service on this last visit was uncharacteristically poor. Our server would just disappear, to the point that we joked about calling the restaurant to see if they could send him over. My son’s request for a simple side substitution was handled badly, with the server just saying he couldn’t do it, but without any explanation as to why or whether he could just do an upcharge if that was an issue. Never asked whether we wanted dessert, and when we questioned whether our other son’s kids meal was supposed to come with ice cream (which was not offered), he said yes, if you want it. Was a special occasion (birthday), which was noted in the reservation, but was never acknowledged. Will not be in a rush to go back after this last visit.
We have always had great service and food this time the waitstaff were weak and could get our orders correct and he seem very frustrated that they were short staffed of a Saturday
Clyde's remains dependable after all these years. Reliable comfort food.....would be nice to see some changes in the menu from time to time......but good to know that reasonable expectations will be met.
We love the ambience of Clyde's in Chevy Chase, and the food is always excellent. One must pay for these pleasures, though. It's not inexpensive. Just great American dining....
I had a long-time friend from Australia visiting, so she, a local friend and I went to the Clyde’s in Chevy Chase. My local friend and I prefer it to the other Clyde’s in D.C. because we like the travel motif. We began with the tempura cauliflower appetizer. My local friend then had the Maryland scallops served with yellow beets, radishes, baby carrots & wild rice with a lemon butter sauce. My Aussie friend had a jumbo lump crab cake in lemon aioli and served with puréed sweet potatoes and citrus slaw. For my entrée, I had blackened Chesapeake Bay blue catfish with cilantro rice & scallions in a spicy Cajun sauce. We all agreed the meal was delicious!
Always enjoy the Clyde's Restaurant Group. Great food and service. Decorated neat! We come here often.
I ordered mussels, which were small, overcooked , dried out and totally disappointing.
Food was acceptable but the service was slow and inconsistent. Our server would go out of his way to be attentive and get fruit while ordering for the kids, but then not show up to take a food order for 10 minutes; or not deliver drinks or have to request our check from a manager. I think he had too many tables, but there was a LOT of staff. Would be a great family restaurant (and for me, great vegan and healthy options) but the services is poor and it is somewhat of a hassle.
Fabulous - Oysters Rockefeller, steak, salmon, crab cakes. Always delicious.
Great food but a bit pricey. Great location and atmosphere.
Another pleasant evening dinner at Clyde's Chevy Chase. The food was great and the atmosphere is always comfortable and relaxed. Our server was energetic and engaged. I noted that calamari was notably tender and light, not heavy or rubbery as can sometimes happen. I was not sure about ordering the salmon, as I have it often, but the baked salmon on creamy lentils was quite tasty. The dessert we shared among three was suitably decadent. Thanks Clyde's.
Our server, Kirk T., #27, was excellent!!! We had two tables and he handled it with ease and gave us top-notch customer service with a huge smile!
The food and service were excellent and I look forward to returning.
I can always count on Clyde's to serve fresh, delicious food and good wines. It is spacious with gleaming brass fixtures. It is a very pleasant place to meet friends and the best restaurant in Friendship Heights.
Did not like the tuna poke at all. We had to ask for our cocktail a second time -- just getting the drink took about 20 minutes.
Our server seemed unkind, as if he didn't want to wait on us.
Always a hit. Lively atmosphere and great food. Never disappoints.
the only disappointment was the steak and eggs. I opted to substitute salad for the breakfast potatoes. Food arrived piece of CHEWY STEAK and scrambled eggs on the plate- THATS IT- NOT VERY APPEALING. People eat with their eyes first! Steak shoe leather quality- eggs were fine.
Took my in laws for dinner! They loved everything about it! We’ll be back👍👍👍👍
I remembered loving Clyde's of Georgetown and we were staying within walking distance of the one is Friendship Heights. I was very happy that they had crayons and kids menus since we were with my 5 year old twins. Our server was very accommodating but seemed a bit new. Our cocktails were good but my glass of wine, the Clyde's Rose, was undrinkable and was my last choice but they were out of the other options. My beet salad was good, not great, and the parmesan crusted trout was a huge, deep fried piece of fish and seemed like something that came out of a box whereas I had assumed it would be a piece of fish lightly rolled in parmesan and breadcrumbs and pan fried (shame on me for not asking how it was prepared). It wasn't terrible but it wasn't worth the price.
Good food with variety of items. Good for family groups and occasions.
Always very pleasing - the food, the service, and the friendly ambience. You can always rely on Clyde’s for a great brunch!
On a recent Saturday brunch visit the food (eggs benedict) was awful and the server literally had no comment in response to our complaint. Won't be coming back and will be warning everyone in sight to stay away. The magic is gone it seems!
One entree came out wrong. When it came back the entree was “fixed” but it was obvious that the kitchen just removed what was on the food that wasn’t supposed to be and reserved it. The sandwich was a mess and cold. The fries were cold. I would have told the waiter but we never saw him again until it was time to get the check. At that point he never asked and I just couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Truly terrible experience.
Great service and food, and easy as usual! We go there often!
Clydes is always a good place to meet while in Chevy Chase. I've been to this particular Clydes many times and have had good experiences each time. HOWEVER, on this particular visit I arrived early (12:15) before my 12:30 reservation. I asked if I could be seated and wait for my guest. That was not a problem, but when this particular hostess tried to seat us near the kitchen, I asked if there was another booth we could sit out, as my guest and I wanted to have a nice conversation without a lot of noise. She immediately said there was no other booths available at the time, but I said I would 'wait'. She had a snotty, unpleasant attitude toward me regarding my request. As we walked back to the check-in, she must have told the other hostess/manager of my request, and surprisingly she was able to seat me at a booth away from the kitchen and perfect for my request. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was NOT crowded and there were plenty of booths available. As she seated me at the table, once again she looked like she was annoyed with me and was really not that pleasant! She might have had a bad morning, but then Clydes should not have designated her as the hostess to seat guests. I did not get her name, but I was tempted to ask as I was leaving, but chose not too. Fortunately her behavior did not ruin my lunch/date/experience. The waiter we had was great as far as leaving us alone for awhile before we ordered and not rushing us. But he too did not have a pleasant attitude in dealing with us. I hope this is not the typical type of staff that Clyde's hires?
What happened to Clyde's? It used to be so consistently good. Service on Monday was terrible from the front greeters to the wait staff. Food was good but entrees are slimmed down--no vegetable and starch with the protein. Plate looks empty! Had to ask many times for bread. There were two servers and they did not know who was doing what. PLUS--we had specifically gone for PRIME RIB night and they were out of it. Things happen but they should have been upfront.
Got the manager's attention and he was dealing with computer issues. Very nice to us--he comped the drinks and dessert.
Hope Clyde's gets its MOJO back as it has always been a go to place for all occasions!
Loved the stuffed acorn squash and I added chicken to it. It was delicious. We were downstairs where the band is and the service at the bar was awful. There were not enough bartenders and the service was awful. We had to go upstairs to order our drinks and food.
The service at the bar was terrible. And my husband ordered a burger that was very undercooked. And when he asked to have it cooked more they served him another under cooked burger. The bartender was oblivious to us. I asked for cocktail sauce for my crabcake. He brought me the cocktail sauce 20 minutes after my crabacake was served. I ate the crabcake and then the bartender served me the cocktail sauce. He didn’t even notice that I already had eaten the crabcake. All in all a terrible experience for Clydes.
Clyde’s is a frequent go to place for us in Chevy Chase. For this particular visit, our established expectations were not met. It was early evening after the March of Our Lives 3/24 so the place was packed. The energy of the young folks eating and meeting at large group tables was fantastic. But - Clyde’s was a little overwhelmed. We had reservations and when we checked in; the scattershot staff were not very accommodating... they were obviously flustered. When presenting ourselves as a reservation holder, she actually acted irritated when checking in. Now there were a lot of pushy people with large groups without reservations demanding to be seated; but that was not our little table for 2 with a reservation.
Regardless we were seated within 15 mins of our reservations. Once seated; the service was quick to take drink orders. We looked at menu and saw there was not the normal “Monthly Special” for the place. Our favorite special is Lobster month... but I digress. For this particular evening we looked to order the awesome Brick Chicken dish. I have ordered this for for the past 18 months because it is a fantastic dish. BUT - it’s been dropped from the menu and replaced with a chicken breast. I ordered that dish through the recommendation of the server as a worthy replacement. Well- it’s not even close. The dish was much smaller and now covered with a salty sauce that hid the flavor of great chicken. Even worse it was only served lukewarm. Never have I had a dish that was not served hot at Clyde’s- this was a first. We chalked it up as a one off and will not keep us from coming back- just really disappointed that Brick Chicken is nothing but a memory.
Lastly we tried to order the Apple Pie for desert, but alas they had sold out by 7:45pm. Again a weird one off since we’ve never had that happen before.
Overall- Clyde’s is normally a dependable night out for friendly service and amazing food... but for this night we were disappointed.
Catching up with a friend on Sat. We were first to arrive when Clyde’s opened and they were off their game, hostess was down right rude even though I had a reservation & place was empty as we literally arrived as doors opened at 11am. Food was good. Waiter service was a little lackadaisical.
My friend and I visit Clyde's of Chevy Chase about three times a year. We thoroughly enjoy the food, ambiance and service. We recommend it to everyone we know.
Very much enjoyed the antique airplane decor in the main room, as well as the antique car theme in the bar. I especially loved the Jaguar XKSS on display. I had the pork chop which was delicious, my wife had the salmon, which she enjoyed very much, but noted the lentils were a bit dry. Overall we had a great time.
