Clyde's of Chevy Chase
outside dining tables are first come, first served
We know it is no fun to wear a mask while enjoying a night out, but our staff's safety is no laughing matter.
We require all guests to wear a mask while moving about the restaurant, and when speaking to Clyde's employees.
Masks have been a hot topic, with passionate views on all sides. With our team and their families' health at stake, we must err on the side of caution. We hope you will understand and look forward to the day, hopefully soon, when we can all throw our masks in the trash.

FOOD and SERVICE EXCELLENT. I had the swordfish - it was excellent.
Exceptional good (lobster month!) and really great covid protocols respected!
Outdoor dining well organized for social distance, sun protection, etc. Burgers still outstanding and the best deal for lunch. Service a bit spotty but we were in no hurry on a beautiful afternoon.
I had the Lobster Shepherds Pie and it was awful! The waiter could never be found.
Super service during this difficult time!
We had THE MOST TERRIFIC TIME! We were celebrating two birthdays and the staff was so awesome! We reserved outdoor seating but it looked like rain in the forecast and the staff was incredibly accommodating!!! I recommend highly! And the burgers were amazing!
Went for the annual lobster dinner special. Parking was next to restaurant and easy to use. Lobster was excellent and cooked to perfection. Wine was good also. I would rate this restaurant as moderately priced.
How disappointing. We drove all the way from Mclean to have oysters and lobsters for lunch. The oysters were full of shell (mist unpleasant) and they gave us a single small piece of lemon for a dozen. The lobsters were rubbery and cold having taken half an hour to get to us. The spinach substitution for fries for one of us was cold and watery and two spoons worth. Service was poor and inattentive.
Lunch on the patio with friends. Comfortable and far enough from Wisconsin Ave to be relatively quiet. The food was very good. My only complaint (which is minor) is that our server could have paid more attention to us.
My friend and I were seated outside as requested and there were only a few other tables occupied. It was ten minutes before a waiter came over and we had to ask for menus. We ordered a glass of wine and it was another fifteen minuted before it arrived! Were ordered lunch and it was a twenty minute wait! Asked for the check and waited another ten minutes. The waiter was very lackadaisical and lacked any customer focus skills. The poor service detracted from what could have been a nice venture out.
Thought everything was meh except the crab cakes which were delicious. Ordered the hot and toddy which sounded perfect for a chilly night. It arrived lukewarm. Asked to have it reheated after our waitress disappeared for 10 minutes. Asked to have sweet potato fries with my crab cakes—it arrived with regular fries. Sent that back. By the time the correct order came back the crab cakes were cold. I was so hungry by then I just ate them. It’s a shame—Clydes has been in the neighborhood for a while and was always our go to.
Excellent, as always 😊
Great outdoor lunch experience. Oysters...4 kinds....salads...Reuben sandwich....all delicious.....top professional service....from concierge on down....sanitizing and table cl eaning consistently evidenced...masks everywhere. Reservations recommended.
The best thing about Clyde's, Chevy Chase is the service. So friendly, helpful and efficient.
Food is good but nothing beats the employees......all of them!
Wonderful evening dinner with family. Love the fact that we can make a reservation for outside and the new heaters. It all adds to the reasons this is our favourite neighbourhood restaurant.
Dining out during a pandemic is a special treat that is done very sparingly because of the risks. Unfortunately our recent dinner experience at Clydes did not justify the risk we took.
Food quality was not the same Clydes (we were pre-pandemic regulars). Shrimp pasta was mediocre and the burger was very forgettable. What a shame.
Service was pathetic when the waiter forgot our wine and the main course was served within minutes of our salad (we told him we want them spaced out), even before we had a chance to take a bite! I asked for mustard to go with my fries, no mustard came. Waiter did not seem to know much about the menu nor pricing (eg price for small Ceasar salad or substituting fries with sweet potato fries) and not offering to check. Waiter needs better training.
Best part of the evening was the ambience .. charming outdoor seating.
Portions are smaller now. The crab & artichoke dip is still good. But the lobster in the Shepherd's Pie was undercooked and rubbery.
Nice that we were able to make reservations for outside via Open Table.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner. Lobster shepherd’s pie was excellent with large pieces of lobster in a light sauce with Parmesan mashed potatoes. Our sever was both courteous and attentive. Overall enjoyable dining experience.
Nice outdoor space! Would've been better if the heater had been working.
The Clydes Group ALWAYS does it right
Awesome Food - Service and Value
The outdoor patio is perfect during these times
Thank you Clydes
Food and service excellent.
Spoke to staff 2x about unkempt restroom
Finally Make maitre’d promised to address
The food was great and the setting was perfect for a wonderful lunch! I would highly recommend Clyde's to friends.
The whole lobster special was fabulous. Our service was great. Price is right. Weather was great & fingers crossed for my next visit. When it got darker the outdoor patio was appropriate lit.
Excellent as always. Service was excellent
Fabulous food as always...Lobster Event specials are always GREAT taste and value.
Clyde's has always been the 'go to' place in our neighborhood, partly because of its willingness to accommodate large groups (often with separate checks), generous drinks and large menu. The coronavirus, with its decrease in seating, has brought some changes. Nobody is going out in groups, the drinks are a bit stingy and the menu is limited.
Having said that, I'm happy to report that Clyde's, despite the problems, is still going strong. The newly-expanded patio is lovely. And the menu is modest, but wonderful. I ordered the shrimp linguini, which was the best I've ever had. And the pinot grigio was lovely. My friend, who ordered a dinner salad with chicken, was equally pleased.
I look forward to returning soon--next time with a lobster lover from Maine--who is already thrilled at the idea of a whole Maine lobster on special!
Noise level rating was because we were outside (our choice), but right next to Wisconsin Avenue.
Food - for the very first time in the over 30 years I’ve been going to Clyde’s the food was not good. The two appetizers were fine, one of which was a specially made for me - grilled rather than fried Calamari. However, the main dish - lobster shepherd’s pie - was absolutely tasteless. I doubt the garlic mashed potatoes had any garlic in them. There was not even the faintest hint of garlic. The sauce had no taste. It could have been dishwater. Even the lobster was tasteless. I don’t know why I even ate it. Maybe the chef had an off night?? Anyway, very disappointing.
Joe did a great job taking care of us. Everyone was happy with our food--especially the cheeseburgers and the chicken sandwich and the crab soup. Delish! Outdoor seating was well distanced and all the staff are taking the COVID precautions that are necessary.
Went on Saturday night for the lobster special. We both had the lobster dinner, split a Caesar Salad and a bottle of true Clyde’s Chardonnay. Everything was outstanding and our waitress couldn’t have been nicer. We will definitely return.
We dined outside on a Friday evening. The outdoor patios were busy, however the inside of the restaurant was very quiet. We arrived at 7PM and were seated right away, however it took ~15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. It then took about 15-20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Our dinners didn't arrive until over an hour after we were seated. Meals included a sandwich, salad, grilled salmon and pasta dish. With the exception of one dish that we didn't care for, the food was excellent. Our server was very pleasant, however the service delays were ridiculous and spoiled our evening. Even after we asked for our check, it took 10-15 minutes to get it.
We were so happy with our server. She was pleasant , helpful and resourceful.
I am very happy that you can reserve outdoor seating . Will tell all my friends.
Great experience on all levels: all staff were observant of sanitizing, wearing masks & disposable gloves. Even menus were disposed of in the trash after use.
Food was delicious! Our server was extremely considerate & pleasant.
Lovely patio. Excellent staff service. Welcoming waitress. Definitely returning. Thank you. You
Superb low key outdoor dining experience— perfect for a casual dinner
We ate on the terrace. Very nice. A special place for us.
Food was delicious!! Patio was an ice atmosphere. Service was lacking and we waiting a long time to hear from our waitress on multiple occasions. Food was put in incorrectly and the server who helped us did not saying anything, just took the food back.
I've always said, if any of my associates arrived in town, I would only select Clyde's. It is quite an unusual decor. It is unique and no other like it. During this unusual time, Clyde's serves us well.
