Clyde's of Chevy Chase
The restaurant was packed for Sunday brunch. A party of about 10 people were next to us. They had finished their meal but their 6 small children were running around the restaurant shouting and screaming as if they were in an outside playground. The adults in this party allowed their children to behave in this abominable way. Clyde’s staff completely ignored the situation. Meanwhile our waitress was a little ‘ditsy’. She was surprised when we said we wanted to place our order! After our main course, she offered to bring us a dessert menu - then disappeared for 25 minutes and never came back! So we had to ask her out and just asked her to bring the bill. Having said all of this, we have dined in this Clyde’s restaurant at Chevy Chase on numerous occasions. This was the first time we were disappointed with such a noisy situation and mediocre service. Normally, we would highly recommend this restaurant for both brunch and dinner.
Surprisingly good! Food, wine tasty. Excellent service. They accommodated our party of 6 without a hitch.
A bit challenging tonight. Had to ask for empty plates to be cleared before dessert arrived and we love babies...but not when they won't stop crying and the parents are slow to act. Check please!
My server wasn’t that polite and we waited a long time for our food that wasn’t hot, but I enjoyed the scenery with my date.
Food was mediocre and ran out of many entrees. My crabcake entree was fine but wife did not enjoy the flounder. Also not enough bread served with the mussels. Decor is very busy and carpet is dated, all though train is cool. Downstairs lounge seemed nice and this place seems like it would be better for a happy hour instead of a nice dinner,
We were not able to eat at Clyde’s. By around 8:30 they ran out of all the top options for my date and I. They were out of the Valentine’s Day Surf and Turf Special, the only steak option, crab cakes, beef tenderloin, swordfish, and catfish. They may have been out of other options but those were the ones we inquired about. Horrible preparation for one of the biggest dining evenings of the year.
Normally would say yes but food was cold, trying to get water was horrible and there was so much visible dust everywhere especially on the planes - literally hanging down! Our waitress had 3 holes in one shirt sleeve and it was obviously a size too small as was pullling at every button and gaping inbetween - whcih fortunate the long men's tie covered. Asked for more what berfore appetizer arrived, asked for it 3 more times before receiving it. Halfway through dinner started asking again. 3rd request was the chrm that time. Tables were far too close together - there was absolutely no privacy - the couple to our north commented several times on our conversation! Worst Clydes experience ever. Was their worst Valentine's dinner experience ever.
We usually attend Clyde's Chevy Chase for special occasions, e.g., Valentine's, birthdays, and often for New Year's. The service is always excellent, menu items tasty, and wine more than acceptable. I would prefer more entree items on the menu.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful meal on Valentine’s Day! Could not have asked for better service, food, or overall experience.
GREAT FOOD EVEN FOR SPECIAL DIETS!
Always reliable, Clyde's wait staff and kitchen staff are eager to oblige special requests for my low sodium/no salt diet. Substitutions on the menu are okay and the result is what you like to eat and can be healthy, if you choose. A wide variety of menu options and a monthly special help whet the appetite though one of my favorites is fresh hamburger patty and wings without salt or sauce.
The whole experience was tainted by a horrible waiter. He first walked up to the table and the first thing he said to us was, "Yeah, okay...." My wife interpreted that to mean what would you like to order so she gave him her drink order. He then asked, "Would you like to start off with an appetizer or starter or are you ready to order?" I said I think we are ready to order and then my wife started with her order for dinner first and then I gave him what we wanted to start with and then gave him my order.
He then interrupted and asked with an angered tone, "Uh... What did I ask you when I first walked up?" I was about to say you walked up and just said, "Yeah, okay..." but I had a puzzled look on my face. He impatiently said, "I asked if you wanted a starter and you said no and then you ordered two... Nevermind." And he walked away. I tried not losing my cool as this was supposed to be a romantic dinner with my wife for Valentine's Day.
Throughout the meal he barely interacted and when I asked for the check he said nothing. When he dropped off the check he said nothing. I was tempted to when I was writing the tip to leave nothing but I didn't want to make my wife uncomfortable so I promised myself I would pass along my feedback via this review and a note to management.
If you get Joe F for a waiter here... Run or request someone else! The food was decent but it was all overshadowed by a very bitter, rude and obviously untrained employee.
Clyde's has always been one of our favorite restaurants for many years, which has a lot of sentimental value--especially the DC location. But that location is really difficult to visit because of the parking restrictions in downtown DC. So we chose the Chevy Chase location to celebrate our special day! It was great! The food was very good and the ambiance, service, live violin music and even the validated free parking were wonderful! We will be sure to check it out again soon and try some of the other impressive features on the menu!
The food took forever to come out
Server said salmon was skinless, but it nearly was. It was sooooo good!
A friend suggested this for lunch, and although it was not one of my favorites, it was convenient and I agreed. It turned out to be really good! I had a steak salad that was delicious! It had a nice dressing, something resembling salsa, excellent blue cheese, nice freshly cut baby romaine, and a perfectly cooked steak. My friends had meatloaf and steak and were equally impressed. I haven't been here for over five years, I had tried it 2-3 times but didn't think it was anything to write home about. If you haven't been for a while, I suggest you try it again. Service was also very attentive, although it was a late lunch hour and not very crowded.
Clyde's is always reliable, and a good place to get together with friends for lunch. My two friends enjoyed different pasta dishes, which they liked, and I had the fish tacos, which are always good. Also, it was not too noisy, as many places are these days.
Our server had far too many tables in a restaurant that was only half full, and a party of ten was seated near us. So we never saw her after the order was taken.
The food at Friendship Heights is always good and the service is usually good. But not so this time.
Usually, this is a wonderful restaurant to celebrate a happy occasion. This time, however, the waiter did not seem to realize that we were celebrating a birthday, even though I told him that we were. He brought the ketchup instead of mustard for my daughter, which was important bc she is not allowed to have ketchup. So she had to wait for her food. He neglected to bring us bread; only when I asked him for it did he bring it. Clyde's is known for terrific bread, which it was. The food was excellent, as usual. I just wish our server had been more attentive to our needs.
Never disappointed dining at Clyde's. Had reservations and was seated promptly. Daughter and I both ordered mixed drinks that were prepared to perfection and served at the right temperature. I ordered an excellent wild rice and chicken soup that was loaded with pieces of chicken and seasoned to enhance the overall taste.
She had the salmon burger and fries and I had the fish tacos that come with a side order of rice. Both delivered together, hot and flavored to tempt any palate. Service was on-the-spot for such a busy restaurant.
My husband’s Bday Brunch was so good especially for his sister and her husband’s 1st experience at Clydes! French toast took brother in law to his childhood brunch with his dad at a Manhattan New York restaurant. Return in April scheduled for next Bday Brunch!
The kitchen seemed slow. It was about 25 minutes between ordering and receiving our meal.
Mi wife and I had been to Clydes a few weeks ago and did not like our food and the service was terrible. We went back this past Friday basically because our grandson wanted to go there, and we let our two grandchildren choose where they want to go Friday nights (they take turns choosing).
This time the service was superb, my cheeseburger was good and my wife loved her salmon. Our grandchildren always enjoy the chicken nuggets and kids pasta at Clydes.
Food was outstanding. Server was attentive.
My friend and I like to meet up at the Clyde's in Chevy Chase and have done so many times. She eats gluten free and so is always interested in finding what choices are available. Unfortunately, she was wanting to order a turkey burger, which she had ordered at another Clydes recently. It was not on this menu.
Our server was Jay and once we got his attention, he was very accommodating.
It was a good time, we didn't feel rushed, and I'm sure we'll go back again.
My friends and I had a lovely lunch. We enjoyed everything from meatloaf to crab cakes. Not crowded, as I feared it would be. Noise level was acceptable.
The food at Clyde's is generally good, but with exceptions. The Parmagion Trout was so heavily breaded that it was hard to taste the fish. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were drenched in oil. Good coffee though.
It was time for friends to get together at the beginning of a new year! We Always enjoy Clyde’s, especially when Joe is our server! He’s en experienced professional and our friend! Love him!
I love the entire Clyde’s restaurant group. The food and service is great at all locations. It’s one of my favorite local restaurants.
Comfortable for lunch or dinner. Timeless decor of vintage transportation and the most comfortable banquette seats. Ate a Reuben sandwich---delicious, lean corned-beef. Lots of great menu choices.
It took FOREVER to get food, service, refills, bills & etc. I have a fairly large party but it wasn’t that busy at the restaurant so there was little to know follow-up.
Brunch with family . Nice and comfortable
My wife and I enjoyed a late dinner after spending the day downtown at the museums. The Chevy Chase location is great. She had the new(er) Swordfish dinner - we've never had such tender swordfish - delicious. I had my fav - oysters and beer.
A repeat visit (fourth time) for a friend and me. We loved that the overhead train was up and running!
Great food at reasonable price. Brussel sprouts appetizer was especially delicious. All our entrees- swordfish, meatloaf and cassoulet- were all first rate. Excellent service. We commended our waiter to the manager. We’ll definitely go back.
Wonderful to have a local restaurant that goes above and beyond for special diets. Our 3 1/2 yr old grandson is gluten & dairy free and they offer several choices brought out by the manger who oversees these dishes. For those with no restrictions their crab cakes and steak salad are excellent. Sometimes service can be a little slow when they are very busy however dining there is especially great since they also can accommodate large parties like our family.
I have been going to Clydes since the original opened in Georgetown and knew Suart Davidson personally. This was my worst experience by far in terms of the food and service. My wife had the chicken pot pie that was awfuland she could not finish it. I had the steak frittes, which were not good but at least edible. My grandchildren enjoyed their food from the children's menu.
Our waiter did not bring bread and eventually, after asking some type of assistant maitre d, he brought some. As my wife was hungry because was unable to eat her food, she asked our waiter twice for bread. He never brought it.
I gave a tip of around 10% but was tempted to give none.
ALthough a large group was seated near us soon after we ordered, the noise level was not intrusive.
Meal was excellent (good size portions) and service attentive.
The food and drinks are as good as ever--and that is very good. However, the service is much less polished than before. Clyde's needs to do a better job of training servers.
We made a reservation through Open Table for 12:30 pm on 1-21-20.
However, when we got there on time, we were told that we will have to wait for 30 to 40 minutes. That defeats the purpose of making a reservation ?!
